GAME FORMAT Teams will consist of 5 players (4 and a goalie). Teams must have a minimum of 4 players to start. Teams are responsible for their own team colors. This will be chosen on IMLeagues. Teams will also be responsible for bringing and alternate colored jersey Each team will play two pool play games followed by a single elimination tournament. Pool play games will consist of two 5 minute halves, running clock. Teams will continue to play 5 minutes halves until the semi-final and championship games where they will play two 10 minutes halves. If the game is tied at the end of regulation, one five minute sudden death overtime will be played. Golden goal rule will apply, and the first team to score will win. If there is no winner by the end of sudden death, penalty kicks will occur with the 4 players on the court at the end of the overtime period. III. GAME PLAY The boundaries will be the basketball court extended to the wall. Sidelines are out of bounds. The wall above the goal is considered still in bounds. The three point line will serve as the goalie crease. Both offensive and defensive players may not be in the goalie crease. The game will begin with a coin toss. The winner will have the option to defer to the second half, choose sides or take first possession. The other team will have the same choices in the second half. Teams will switch goals after half time. After any scored goals, the game will resume with the goalie passing the ball to another teammate. The team that just scored must retreat behind the centerline prior to the first throw to restart the game after a score. Once the ball has been passed, all players can cross the centerline. IV. PLAYER REGULATIONS Players may (in this order) • Catch the ball and run for 3 steps • Dribble the ball without stop (No double dribbling is allowed) • Hold the ball for NO LONGER than 3 seconds • Pass the ball to a player other than themselves A player may not pass to him/herself. Consecutive possessions by the same player may only occur after a missed or blocked shot or a tipped ball by the defense. Field players may not purposely touch the ball below the knee. Goalies may use kick saves within the goalie box. Outside the goalie box, the goalie is a regular field player. A throw in is awarded to a team when the ball is knocked out of bounds (sideline) by the opposing team at the sideline nearest to the spot of last touch. Defending players must remain 5 feet away from the thrower in. If the goalie was last to touch while making a save, the goalie will remain in possession of the ball. Both feet must be touching the ground during a throw in. If the ball is knocked down by the opposing team and stays inbounds, possession will change at the spot of the ball. V. SCORING A goal is scored when the entire ball has passed over the goal line between the goal post and under the crossbar. VI. SUBSTITUIONS In order to substitute, players do not have to wait for a dead ball. The substituting player must slap hands with the person they are replacing at mid court in order to become eligible. Teams cannot substitute for penalized players. VII. GOALIE CREASE All players must stay out of the goalie crease. An offensive player is allowed to jump into the crease in an attempt to take a shot at the goal, but must exit immediately upon landing. A defensive player is allowed to run across the crease briefly, but must make an attempt to stay out of the crease. Defensive players will be allowed 3 seconds to clear out. Failure to do so will result in a penalty shot. If a defensive player blocks or interferes with a shot attempt while in the goalie crease, the player attempting the shot will get a penalty shot. If an offensive player steps into the goalie crease on his/her shot attempt, the shot will be invalid, and the goalie will resume play with possession of the ball. VII. GOALIE REGULATIONS The goalie is allowed to leave the goal arc with the ball. Once the goalie has left the arc, he/she is held responsible to all the rules the other 5 players have. The goalie may NOT receive a pass from a field player while in the goal area. When the goalie throws the ball into play, the pass may not cross the half court line. If so, then a change of possession occurs at half court. b. A ball blocked by the goalie that bounces once can be retrieved by either team, given that neither team retrieves the ball within the three point arc. Play will resume immediately after a violation at the spot of the violation (point of interruption). Teams do not need to wait for a “resume play” whistle. Only on penalty shots will there be a whistle prior to the throw. X. PENALTY SHOTS Penalty shots must be taken from behind the three point line. The shooter will be allowed their 3 steps and may throw from anywhere within the white lines on the court. Players will have 3 seconds to shoot after the official has blown their whistle.
