Gracious and Loving God, We ask, now, for your almighty hand to be upon our graduates as they and their families celebrate this grand milestone. May they find comfort from our community’s continued embrace and support as they journey through life. May they find strength in the excellence of their academic preparation. Bless their lives from this day on with goodness and success. Enable them to stay true to their dreams for your greater glory, to discern what is right, good and just, and to use their gifts wisely and in service to others. Empower them to walk into the future with faith, hope, and great love guided by your light so that they may use their talents to, in the words of St. Ignatius Loyola, “Go forth and set the world on fire.” Dear Graduates, Time is a beautifully puzzling reality of the human condition. Our experience of it varies in the different moments of our lives. It can move slowly, and it can move quickly. Certain memories that were lived a decade in the past are recalled and brought to the present in an instant. They seem like yesterday. Others that were formed only two days ago can seem as blurred as those earliest we manage to dig out of the recesses of our consciousness. Some are good; some are bad. There are experiences we wish we could have again, and there are others we wish had never been. Yet the great mystery of it all is that the time we have lived to this point and all the experiences and circumstances of our lives – all of it has brought us here to this moment. Your graduation marks an end of a particular set of experiences at this time. Yet, as we are always on the cusp of another moment, ever fresh and new, we are constantly at the very beginning of a new journey that will hold its own set of experiences and circumstances. What will they be? Forgive the clichéd wording of this phrase, but the possibilities are endless. In the coming years, you will learn a lot about yourself, your gifts and talents, your desires and what motivates you. You’ll learn more about who you are and what you can become. You will succeed, and you will fail. All the experiences and circumstances that will be borne out over the course of time will shape you again and again. Here’s the thing to remember: None of what you have experienced or will experience – all of time – is outside the care of the Father who has loved you from before the beginning and who will continue to love you well beyond the end. The experiences and circumstances of your life are never devoid of his presence. Wherever you are, whatever you will do, whatever happens to you – all is held within his vision, and he can be found through all and in all. … He wants to be found. He longs for it. He longs for you. With confidence in this undying love of the Father, move forward! My prayer for you as you begin this new journey, wherever it leads, is that you remember His love and presence that knows no limits, gives meaning to every situation, and in which will be found all peace and joy. In Christ, Fr. Kennell Congratulations to all the Seniors!
