DECISION NOTICE/DESIGNATION ORDER Decision Notice Finding of No Significant Impact Designation Order By virtue of the authority vested in me by the Secretary of Agriculture under regulations at 7 CFR 2.42, 36 CFR 251.23, and 36 CFR Part 219, I hereby establish the Osborn Mountain Research Natural Area. It shall be comprised of lands described in the section of the Establishment Record entitled "Location." The Regional Forester has recommended the establishment of this Research Natural Area in the Record of Decision for the Bridger-Teton National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan. That recommendation was the result of analysis of the factors listed in 36 CFR 219.25 and Forest Service Manual 4063.41. Results of the Regional Forester's analysis are documented in the Bridger-Teton National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan and Final Environmental Impact Statement which are available to the public. The Osborn Mountain Research Natural Area will be managed in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and Forest Service Manual direction regarding Research Natural Areas. It will be administered in accordance with the management direction/prescription identified in the Establishment Record. I have reviewed the Bridger-Teton Land and Resource Management Plan (LRMP) direction for this RNA and find that the management direction cited in the previous paragraph is consistent with the LRMP and that a Plan amendment is not required. The Forest Supervisor of the Bridger-Teton National Forest shall notify the public of this decision and mail a copy of the Decision Notice/Designation Order and amended direction to all persons on the Bridger-Teton National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan mailing list. -

Norway Dovrefjell Mountains A Greentours Itinerary Day 1 To Trondheim and Oppdal After our evening arrival we’ll drive directly to Oppdal and settle into our very comfortable hotel. Day 2 Gjevillvassdalen Valley We’ll drive to the beautiful Gjevillvassdalen Valley to explore a mountain-farming area and to observe how this type of agriculture affects many species in a positive way. Walking through the subalpine birch forest we’ll soon become familiar with species like Solidago virgaurea, both Melampyrum pratense and Melampyrum sylvaticum, Trientalis europaea, Geum rivale, Cornus suecica, Omalotheca norvegica, Pyrola minor, Frog Orchids, and grasses such as Phleum alpinum and Anthoxanthum odoratum. Family parties of Willow Grouse may wander across the tracks and we can see Bramblings, Fieldfare and Bluethroats in the birch woodland. If the weather is good the deep blue, star-like flowers of Gentiana nivalis will open. Where the soil is moist and rich we can see taller species such as Aconitum septentrionale, Geranium sylvaticum, Cicerbita alpina, Ranunculus platanifolius, Stellaria nemoreum, Angelica archangelica and Myosotis decumbens. On more nutrient-poor soils, heather-like Empetrum nigrum and lichens such as Flavocetraria nivalis and Stereocaulon dominate. Day 3 Orkelsjøen Lake and Unndalen Valley Mountain plateaux around Orkelsjøen Lake offer a different landscape with a low relief – so no steep slopes here!. Here we can get to know plant communities on calcareous soil dominated by Dryas octopetala together with species like red Silene acaulis, the orchids Coeloglossum viride and Pseudorchis straminea, and peas such as Astragalus alpinus and Oxytropis lapponica. Other species we will meet in this plant community are Carex rupestris, Potentilla crantzii, Thalictrum alpinum, Bartia alpina and Bistorta vivipara. -

An-Magritt Emilie Nergaard Todnem Naturforvaltning Forord Denne masteroppgaven er skrevet for Fakultetet for Miljøvitenskap og Naturforvaltning (MINA) ved Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige Universitet (NMBU), og markerer en fullført mastergrad i naturforvaltning. Jeg har alltid hatt stor interesse for høyfjelløkologi og hadde et sterkt ønske om å skrive en oppgave som omhandler fjellet. Det har vært interessant og morsomt å studere virkning av tiltak for å redusere ferdsel inn mot villreinens sårbare områder. Jeg har hatt glede av arbeidet. Jeg vil først takke veilederne mine Øystein Aas (Professor ved MINA, NMBU) og Vegard Gundersen (Seniorforsker, NINA) som har vært hoved- og biveileder, og har gitt meg nyttige tilbakemeldinger og god veiledning underveis i arbeidet. I tillegg vil jeg takke for at jeg fikk delta i prosjektet. Å jobbe med et konkret prosjekt har gitt ekstra motivasjon da oppgaven forhåpentligvis kan være til nytte for andre. Hjerkinn for praktisk hjelp og husrom under feltarbeidet, og Marit Vorkinn (Seniorrådgiver, Fylkesmannen i Innlandet) for råd og hjelp ved utforming av spørreskjema. Floricultural Potential for Adaptable, Wind-Tolerant, Flowering Perennial, Artemisia arctica Less. ssp. arctica ‘Boreal Wormwood’ David Koser Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Horticulture University of Minnesota 5/13/2019 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Artemisia arctica ssp. arctica, commonly known as ‘Boreal Wormwood’, is an herbaceous perennial of the family Asteraceae which grows to a height of approximately 25-40 cm and produces subtle, slightly aromatic, drooping, yellow to slightly red, disk flowers from July to September. It is natively found within inhospitable environments throughout the meadows and mountains of Northwestern North America and Northeast Asia. Consequently, this subspecies is extremely adaptable and resilient, possessing the ability to withstand: highly acid to slightly alkaline soil pH, moderate to dry soil moisture levels, low to moderately-high soil nitrate levels, soil disturbance caused by frequent freeze and thaw events, intense sunlight, high winds, violent storms, moderately-high heat stress and extreme cold. Accordingly, this subspecies has excellent market potential as a hardy, adaptable, low-maintenance, herbaceous, flowering perennial for retail and wholesale nursery markets in northern climates. Specifically, its late bloom-time, as well as its storm, flood and drought tolerance, make it an appealing option for consumers seeking to add mid- to late-summer seasonal interest to their gardens, and improve their landscaping’s resilience to global climate change. Historically, this subspecies was also used by native peoples to treat a large diversity of ailments, ranging from diabetes and cancer to the common cold, and may possess phytotherapeutic benefits that would enable it to be marketed as a value-added, medicinal product. -

Potential local extinction of Artemisia Norvegica in Jondal Hedda Bakåsmoen Holm This project addresses whether the red-listed plant Artemisia University of Bergen Norvegica, a national responsibility species to Norway, is [email protected] threatened by climate change in Jondal, and the matter will be Veileder, Ole Reidar Vetaas [email protected] discussed based on its temperature niche. Species Artemisia Norwegica is a flower in the aster family, and grows on alpine ridges and landslides, preferably in alkaline soil. In Norway, the plant has a small and compact distribution in Dovre, Trollheimen and Sunndalfjella, where over 90 per cent of its prevalence exists. In addition, there are two small occurrences on Vasslifjellet in Jondal, Ullensvang and Hjelmeland in Rogaland. Outside of Norway subspecies are found in Scotland and the Ural mountains of Russia and varieties and subspecies are also found in North America. Results Referring to the graphs below, they illustrates that Artemisia Norvegica has ascended about 360 masl, over the last 90 years in Dovre.
