Suzanne Iarla Community Outreach Specialist City of El Cerrito 10890 San Pablo Avenue El Cerrito, CA 94530

4 September 2013

Dear Suzanne,

The Artist Salon of the East Bay (ASEB) is a group of mostly El Cerrito and Richmond-based artists, many of whose names will be familiar to you. Our members are deeply involved in to the local arts community and several have served as Arts and Culture Commissioners over the years. ASEB members are Rita Bagley, Dyana Bhandari, Pam Fingado, Edward Alex Franco, Sandi Potter, Jeanne Rehrig and Nicole Rubio (see contact information, below).

We are pleased to submit our idea for an exhibit at the El Cerrito City Hall Gallery – El Cerrito, Re-imagined. Inspired by our own history in the East Bay and by images contained in the El Cerrito Historical Society’s book “El Cerrito – Images of America,” together we explored themes of the past – nostalgia, memory, and loss – to capture the enduring essence and evolution of our town. We draw on historic photographs, personal experiences, and stories to reinterpret the life and times of El Cerrito. Working in a variety of media - including, acrylic and oil painting, mono-printing, pastel and pencil drawing and mixed media – each artist delves into images of the past to gain a new perspective on the present. Examples of each artist’s work for this project are attached (see jpg files identified by artist’s name).

Many of the ASEB artists have show their work in group and individual shows in El Cerrito and each artist brings a unique perspective to this project (see artists’ resumes, attached). ASEB has recently exhibited at the Contra Costa County Administration Building in Martinez and at the San Pablo Art Gallery and we would be proud to show our work in our hometown of El Cerrito.

We will be ready to exhibit anytime after November 1, 2013 and are available to attend a meeting of the Arts and Culture Commission to show more of our work and to discuss our concept.

Thank you for your consideration of this proposal. Please let me know if you have any question or need additional information (510) 708-7553 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Sandi Potter Sandi Potter ASEB Member

ARTIST RESUME Dyana Bhandari

Artist’s Bio – Dyana Bhandari

I have been a mixed media artist since my childhood although it was not until I was an adult that I became aware of this. As a child I made mobiles out of newspaper articles for current events and clay maps for geography projects. I was trained in professional decorative arts, faux finishes, color and design by JoAnne Day at the Day Studio Workshop in San Francisco. As part of a team of 50 artists I participated in the historical restoration of the Hunt- Phelan mansion in Memphis, Tennessee. I have completed courses at Merritt College, Laney College and San Francisco City College in all of the basic mediums of art as well as ceramic sculpture, collage and mixed media. During a blizzard in Chicago I received professional training in photo transfer techniques from two visiting Japanese artists of the Atelier Decalque.

My work has been shown at MC Artworks Gallery in El Cerrito, CA, both during a group show for California Arts Day and in a solo show. Recently my work was exhibited at the Contra Costa County Administration building gallery in Martinez as part of an Art Passages Show. I was part of the Artists’ Salon of the East Bay show “Seasons” at the City of San Pablo Art Gallery in San Pablo, CA.

I have been a member of the Artists’ Salon of the East Bay for about two years. Currently I am the District 1 Commissioner and Chair of the AC5 (Arts and Culture Commission of the Contra Costa County). In addition to creating my own artwork, I enjoy supporting other artists in our community.
