12. Österreichische Chemietage Joint Meeting of the Slovenian & Austrian Chemical Societies September 10 – 13, 2007 Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt

The meeting of the Austrian Chemical Society, called “Österreichische Chemietage” is an attractive forum for chemists from Austria and its neighbouring countries. University and high school teachers as well as chemists from industry and government, and especially younger colleagues are cordially invited to present their recent research results. The meeting will include invited plenary lectures, short talks (15 minutes plus 5 minutes discussion) and posters dealing with all chemical areas. The main topic at the 2007 meeting is: “Hydrochemistry”

In addition to the lectures given, there will be an extended poster session and several minisymposiums covering various topics. For young chemists a discussion on industrial employments will be given. Several chemical enterprises will join the exhibition and present their products and services.

The Austrian Chemical Society and the University of Klagenfurt are looking forward to seeing you at the meeting in September.

The Auer von Welsbach-Museum offers a unique display of unique exhibits of the first metal filament lamp, an impressive collection of the rarest lighters and the earliest gas mantle light. Apart from the first colour photographs in Austria, made by Carl Auer von Welsbach in 1908, the visitor will find the laboratory which is furnished with the original equipment and tools used by the most distinguished Austrian discoverer and inventor. Manuscripts of famous scientists and innumerable other rarities augment this fascinating exhibit that is a pleasure for the lay and expert person alike.

Excursion B Donau Chemie Werke, Brückl

The plant in Carinthia manufactures high-quality electrolysis products by the membrane process. Their innovative, proficient approach has set new standards in the development of advanced environmental technologies, for example in the recycling of used mordant agents and acids. A broad product range meets all existing market requirements: caustic soda, chlorine, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, iron(III) chloride, sodium hypochlorite, "Donau Klar" product line, Donau PAC

Midday: snacks

Hochosterwitz Castle (also known as Burg Hochosterwitz or Berg Hochosterwitz) is considered to be one of most impressive medieval castles. It is situated on a 160 m dolomite rock, east of the town of St. Veit an der Glan, in Carinthia, and can be seen from 30 km away on a clear day.
