Bus ZTL new rules and rates 2007 in Venice The Venice Council has set up a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) for tourist buses in order to control the access of tourist buses to the municipal area (the red area in the image at the right). Tourist buses that want to enter this zone must pay a ticket at check points. There are different tariffs and exemptions depending on the bus destination. The ticket must be bought at the following check points: 1. Check point “Bazzera” = open daily from 6 am to 8:15 pm. For buses coming from highway A4 and A23 from Trieste/Udine and A27 from Belluno. 2. Check point “Panorama” = open daily from 6:30 am to 8:15 pm. For buses coming from road SS309 „Romea“ and SS11 „Riviera del Brenta“. 3. Check point “Fusina” = open daily from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm. For buses coming from road SS309 „Romea“ and SS11 „Riviera del Brenta“. 4. Check point “Petroli” = open daily fpr 24 hours. For buses coming from road SS14 „Triestina“, SS13 „Terraglio“, SS245 „Castellana“, highway A4 from Padua and SP32 „Miranese“. Buses that have booked a hotel in Venice (Mestre, Marghera, Lido di Venezia or the island) must pay € 220,00 (under Euro IV in the high season for buses going to Mestre, Marghera or Lido di Venezia) or € 340,00 (under Euro IV in the high season for buses going to Venice islands). Limit values depend on kind of motor (petrol or diesel engine) and vehicle (passenger vehicles, trucks and buses, bicycles and motor-bikes) and are subject to increasing restrictions. Values are measured during type testing in driving cycle. Vehicles manufacturers must guarantee compliance with limit values for a certain period and for a certain kilometre range. This is done through an in service survey with call back device in the event of systematic mistakes. Besides, for some vehicles, emissions of fuel evaporation are restricted and an onboard diagnosis (OBD) is foreseen. The Euro IV Norm has been valid all over Europe since 1st January. Normal tariff „Ordinary“ It is valid for 24 hours from the time it is issued. Normal tariff „Ordinary with tp“ It is valid for 24 hours from the time it is issued. It is valid only for buses going to Venice islands that are carrying passengers who have bought the tickets for Venice public transport (ACTV water boats) or will buy the tickets when paying for the ZTL. Tickets for local public transport must be presented at check points, they must be valid for groups and must be used on the entry date. (Important: every person in the bus must buy the public transport ticket (ACTV water boats). Tariff benefits a) Buses carrying students (primary, secondary and high school) on a trip (the trip must be organised by the school) in Venice municipality must pay the tariff „school trip“. The pass is valid for 24 hours from the time it is issued. (Important: only public schools). The driver must show a permit issued by the school with the day of the trip and the original stamp. Last name, surname and date of birth of each student must be clearly indicated in the permit. b) Mini buses with 8 to 16 seats (driver not included) must pay the tariff „minibus“. It is valid for 24 hours from the time it is issued. Exception pass e) Buses carrying passengers going to or coming from Venice Port, exclusively if they are embarked on cruise ships or sailing outside the region, buses carrying passengers going to or coming from Marco Polo Airport, and drive through the municipality (that is to say they do not travel along the ring road of Mestre and do not travel on road A4 – SS 14 to the airport -> yellow road up in the map), and buses going to or coming from Mestre Railway Station (for instance buses carrying passengers to the main station because passengers are going back home). Confirmation of booking of the cruise ship or flight or train reservation must be presented at check points. Also the departure and arrival destinations must be documented. This ticket is valid for 3 hours and allows one trip only. f) Buses carrying people to and from Venice port, exclusively if they are on cruise ships and transfer or are sailing outside the municipal area and buses that carry people to and from Marco Polo Airport and drive through the municipality (that is to say they do not travel along the ring road of Mestre and do not travel on road A4 – SS 14 to the airport -> yellow road up in the map), and buses going to or coming from Mestre Railway Station (for instance buses carrying passengers to the main station because passengers are going back home). Confirmation of booking of the cruise ship or flight or train reservation must be presented at check points. Also the departure and arrival destinations must be documented. This ticket is valid for 10 hours and permits multiple runs. g) Buses on unusual services (unusual services are set by Venice Council). This pass is valid for 3 hours. h) Seasonal authorised scheduled buses (Grand Turismo): buses coming from for instance Verona or Vicenza that do not stay. This pass is valid for 3 hours. i) Buses used for international public transport (mostly from Eastern Europe). This pass is valid for 3 hours. j) Buses carrying athletes or artists involved in events in the municipality of Venice (only during the day of the event). This pass is valid for 3 hours. Free passes k) Buses with hire authorisation with driver which are leaving the municipal area for excursions with residents within Venice Municipality and empty buses that are going to a garage inside the area for mechanical work. Exemptions The following bus services must be exempt from passes for circulating in the Bus ZTL in Venice Municipality: l) Buses travelling along the Mestre ring road (the yellow road up in the map). Buses coming from or going to Marco Polo Airport, which just use the highway (for instance a bus coming from Padua takes the highway towards Venice and connection A4-road SS 14 towards the airport -> yellow road in the map. This means that buses do not travel in the town). m) Empty buses that have their garage inside the Bus ZTL. n) School buses carrying students from Venice and nearby municipalities that attend school within Venice Municipality. o) Minibuses owned by hotels inside the Venice municipality p) Buses (usually very small) which exclusively carry the handicapped. All buses that do not have to pay the ordinary tariff must present correct documentation at check points to obtain benefits.
