    ROSALIA Handbooks ROSALIA Handbooks Practical Experiences in Invasive Alien Plant Control Second, revised and expanded edition Invasive plant species pose major agricultural, silvicultural, human health and ecological problems worldwide, and are considered the most signifi cant threat for nature conservation. Species invading natural areas in Hungary have been described by a number of books published in the Practical Experiences in Invasive Alien Plant Control last few years. A great amount of experience has been gathered about the control of these species in some areas, which we can read about in an increasing number of articles; however, no book has been published with regards to the whole country. Invasions affecting larger areas require high energy and cost input, and the effectiveness and successfulness of control can be infl uenced by a number of factors. The development of effective, widely applicable control and eradication technologies is preceded by experiments and examinations which are based on a lot of practical experience and often loaded with negative experiences. National park directorates, forest and agricultural managers and NGOs in many parts of Hungary are combatting the spread of invasive species; however, the exchange of information and conclusion of experiences among the managing bodies is indispensable. The aim of the present volume is to facilitate this by summarizing experiences and the methods applied in practice; which, we hope, will enable us to successfully stop the further spread of invasive plant species and effectively protect our natural values. The main goal of the study was to examine the most important anatomical features and to find new valid taxonomic delimiting characters for the first time in both species. Regarding vegetative organs anatomy, the data obtained in this study indicated that both species possessed secondary tissues in the root, although these plants are annual. Also, stem anatomy was a typical of the Compositae family members, and anomocytic stomata type and dorsiventral leaf structure were present. On the involucral bracts surface crystals were noticeable, while highly developed multilayer sclerenchyma was present in the mesophyll. Palea anatomy was very similar to bract anatomy. Some floral features were as follows: lateral anther dehiscence, corolla composed of uniseriate epidermis and with a homogeneous parenchyma in the mesophyll, inferior ovary and anatropous ovule with basal placentation.

However, investigations of diferent Centaurea calcitrapa L. extracts in terms of cytotoxicity and antimi- crobial activity against phytopathogens are generally scarce. The phenolic profle and broad antimicrobial activity (especially towards bacterial phytopathogens) of methanol (MeOH), 70% ethanol (EtOH), ethyl-acetate (EtOAc), 50% acetone (Me2CO) and dichloromethane: methanol (DCM: MeOH, 1: 1) extracts of C. calcitrapa leaves and their poten- tial toxicity on MRC-5 cell line were investigated for the frst time. A total of 55 phenolic compounds were identifed: 30 phenolic acids and their derivatives, 25 favonoid glycosides and aglycones. This is also the frst report of the pres- ence of centaureidin, jaceidin, kaempferide, nepetin, favonoid glycosides, phenolic acids and their esters in C. calci- trapa extracts. The best results were obtained with EtOAc extract with lowest MIC values expressed in µg/mL ranging from 13 to 25, while methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus was the most susceptible strain. The most susceptible phytopathogens were Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris and Agrobacte- rium tumefaciens. The highest cytotoxicity was recorded for EtOAc and Me2CO extracts with the lowest relative and absolute IC50 values between 88 and 102 µg/mL, while EtOH extract was the least toxic with predicted relative IC 50 value of 1578 µg/mL.

Petković # Institute of Archaeology, Belgrade, Serbia (Received 09 January 2009; accepted 28 February 2009) Abstract The archaeological traces of the Roman mining and metallurgy in eastern Serbia are rather frequent but insufficiently studied and published. Three mining-metallurgical regions abounding in gold, silver, copper, iron and lead could be distinguished there: 1. the upper course of the Pek river, metalla Pincensia, 2. the area between Bor, Zlot, Crna Reka and Rgotina and 3. the area in the river basin of Beli Timok, two latter ones had been organized as territoria metallorum. The archeometallurgical sites confirmed by investigations are: Kraku lu Jordan at the confluence of the Brodica river and the Pek river, Rudna Glava, Tilva Roš in Bor, Gamzigrad – Romuliana, Rgotina near Zaječar and Timacum Minus in the village Ravna near Knjaževac. Roman mining-metallurgical activities in eastern Serbia flourished from the end of the 3rd century, were interrupted by the invasion of Huns in AD 441. and restored in the time of emperors Anastasius and Justin I, in the end of the 5th – beginning of the 6th centuries. Zdravstveni tur- izam u Sokobanji je, međutim, nedovoljno organizovana delatnost koja se ne odvija adekvatno mogućnostima kojima ova turistička destinacija raspolaže. Savremeni turistički trendovi se odlikuju sve izraženijom personalizacijom, povećanim posebnim interesovanjima i značajnim usredsređivanjem turista na nestandardne turističke proizvode. Samim tim, neophodno je da se na ni- vou Sokobanje, kao zdravstveno-turističke destinacije, formira autentična turistička ponuda koja bi svojom atraktivnošću bila konkurentna, ne samo na domaćem, već i na inostranom tržištu. TOURISM OFFERING OF SOKOBANJA AS A MEDICAL AND TOURISM DESTINATION Abstract As a tourism destination, Sokobanja has exceptional natural and other devel- opment potentials not only in medical but also other tourism aspects.Medi- cal tourism in Sokobanja is, however, inadequately organized activity which doesn’t develop in accordance with the potentials this destination disposes of.Contemporary tourism trends are characterized by increasingly observable personalization, increased special interests and important focusing of tourists on non-standard tourism products.In this regard, it is necessary to establish ЕКОНОМИКА 59 at the level of Sokobanja, as a medical-tourism destination, authentic tourism offering that would be competitive in its attraction, not only in domestic but also foreign market.
