Winston Churchill, 1945 B Y DECEMBER 31, 1992, the Member States of the Eu- ropean Economic Community (EC) will create a uni- fied internal market composed of 323 million people, the largest commercial market in the industrial world.' All ar- tificial barriers are to be eliminated in order to allow goods to circulate freely among the Member States.2 The economic community concept was established in 1957 be- tween six European countries under the Treaty Establish- ing the European Economic Community (Treaty).3 After thirty years of negotiation and compromise, the concept will soon become a reality. Brian J. Birch by Abhishek Bhuwalka
The Bibliophile of Standish and Montignac Toupinerie: Brian J. Birch By Abhishek Bhuwalka Figure 1: Brian Birch today the world of philatelic literature, Brian Birch (Figure 1) stands tall. Following in the footsteps of renowned bibliophiles and recorders of the past like P. J. Anderson, B. In T. K. Smith, E. D. Bacon, Fred. J. Melville, the Williams brothers, and the Negus brothers, today Birch is one of the extremely few exclusive proponents of philatelic bibliography and history. Birch’s prodigious output over the last three decades consists of tens of thousands of pages. The vast scope of his Philatelic Bibliophile’s Companion needs to be seen to be believed; I keep discovering new aspects every so often. I first read of Birch in the book Milestones of the Philatelic Literature of the 19th Century (Note 1). Later I began corresponding with him but have not had the fortune to meet him. I was looking forward to it at Stockholmia 2019, but Birch could not attend due to illness. I can think of no better person to inaugurate this new series on philatelic bibliophiles of the world. Birch has much wisdom to share and hence my introduction must be necessarily short. © Abhishek Bhuwalka Page 1 of 16 Brian, tell us about yourself. I was born Brian John Birch on January 18, 1949, at Liverpool. My father was Frederick Birch, a policeman in the Liverpool Force, and my mother was Edna May Birch, a hairdresser and later shopkeeper. I had an older brother, David Frederick Birch, born in 1946, who also became a policeman (Figure 2). -

Aeroporti Del Mezzogiorno

The influence of Japanese art is a phenomenon that is now called Japonisme , and it spread widely throughout Western art. It is quite hard to make a clear definition of Japonisme because of the breadth of the phenomenon, but it could be generally agreed that it is an attempt to understand and adapt the essential qualities of Japanese art. This thesis explores Japanese influences on British Art and will focus on four artists working in Britain: the American James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903), the Australian Mortimer Menpes (1855-1938), and two artists from the group known as the Glasgow Boys, George Henry (1858-1934) and Edward Atkinson Hornel (1864-1933). -

J . After Robespierre THE THERMIDORIAN REACTION Mter Robespierre THE THERMIDORIAN REACTION By ALBERT MATHIEZ Translated from the French by Catherine Alison Phillips The Universal Library GROSSET & DUNLAP NEW YORK COPYRIGHT ©1931 BY ALFRED A. KNOPF, INC. ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AS La Reaction Thermidorienne COPYRIGHT 1929 BY MAX LECLERC ET CIE UNIVERSAL LIBRARY EDITION, 1965 BY ARRANGEMENT WITH ALFRED A. KNOPF, INC. LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CATALOG CARD NUMBER: 65·14385 PRINTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA PREFACE So far as order of time is concerned, M. M athie( s study of the Thermidorian Reaction, of which the present volume is a translation, is a continuation of his history of the French Revolution, of which the English version was published in 1928. In form and character, however, there is a notable difference. In the case of the earlier work the limitations imposed by the publishers excluded all references and foot-notes, and the author had to refer the reader to his other published works for the evidence on which his conclusions were based. In the case of the present book no such limitations have been set, and M. Mathiei: has thus been able not only to state his con clusions, but to give the chain of reasoning by which they have been reached. The Thermidorian Reaction is therefore something more than a sequel to The French Revolution, which M. Mathiei:, with perhaps undue modesty, has described as a precis having no independent authority; it is not only a work of art, but a weighty contribution to historical science. In the preface to his French Revolution M. -

JEAN BATTEN: MY LIFE: NEW ZEALANDS GREATEST WOMAN PILOT FREE DOWNLOAD Jean Batten | 334 pages | 07 Dec 2009 | Trotamundas Press Ltd | 9781906393199 | English | Coventry, United Kingdom “This is Without Doubt the Very Greatest Moment of My Life” – Jean Batten’s Record-Breaking Flight Another time while over the deep ocean her engine cut out inexplicably and she glided to near the waves — loosening her boot laces and flight suit, and planning to cut a wing from the Moth to use for a raft — but her engine cut back in just as inexplicably and she completed the flight … Jean Batten: My Life: New Zealands Greatest Woman Pilot unflinchingly on to other, more challenging, flights. About Us. In Jean's beloved and long- held solo England to Australia light aircraft record was finally broken, well and truly ending a Golden Age of aviation. This site is going to be a brilliant resource. She had the assistance of the Jean Batten: My Life: New Zealands Greatest Woman Pilot modern radio and navigation equipment, cruised mostly above 20, feet and set a time of 3 days 11 hours. Despite all attempts it refused to start again and slowly the plane began to glide towards the shark-infested waters below. Instead she bought a Percival Gull monoplane, one of only nineteen ever made. Back in Britain she obtained a B licence permitting her to fly commercially and this led her to set up a passenger air service. There were bodies packed into the communal grave and finding her remains amongst the others would have been impossible; a simple plaque was erected on the wall above the grave.
