On Oct. 30 several Bolivian legislators of "several political persuasions" signed a communique calling on the Bolivian government to join the Contadora Support Group. The statement added that Bolivian participation in the Support Group would contribute to peace in Central America, in pursuance of a policy of non-alignment, self-determination and non-interference in the domestic affairs of foreign countries. The Support Group was formed in 1985 by the foreign ministers of , , and to provide assistance to the in working out a Central American peace treaty. Foreign ministers from Mexico, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela created Contadora in 1983. According to Cuban news agency PRENSA LATINA, the request was supported by politicians belonging to parties from the left to the extreme right of the ideological spectrum.
