Abstract: The natural flora of Ceylanpınar State Farm was studied in the years 2014 and 2015 before cultivation. During the floristic surveys, 146 species of 99 genera belonging to 18 families were recorded. 28 plant species among them are in threatened categories. Of these plants 13 are endemic and 15 are rare plants. However, the region of interest in this study has not been studied extensively and the habitats of this region have been constantly changing. In the natural flora of the region, rare and endemic plant species have been defined and their threat categories and the factors threatening these species have been determined. In this research the antimicrobial activity of Z. clinopodioides essential oil (at 0.05%) and extract (at 0.4%) were studied on Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae in mayonnaise during storage time at 4°C. Results showed that the antimicrobial effect of Z. clinopodioides essential oil was higher than the extract. This effect increased with increasing the concentration rate. The Z. clinopodioides essential oil was able to inhibit both gram-positive and gram negative bacteria and also the yeast. At the concentrations of Z. clinopodioides essential oil and extract we tested in the current study, we observed no unfavorable effect on the sensory parameters in mayonnaise. Keywords: Mayonnaise; Ziziphora clinopodioides; Salmonella enterica; Staphylococcus aureus; Saccharomyces cerevisia Introduction Mayonnaise is an oil in water (o/w) emulsion [1]. It is traditionally prepared by fully mixing egg yolk, oil, vinegar and spices including mustard to maintain closely packed foam of oil droplets; it may also include salt, sugar or sweeteners, and other optional ingredients. The emulsion is formed by slowly blending oil with a pre-mix that consists of egg yolk, vinegar, and mustard [2].

ANUALLY-constructed keys to many groups of the Egyptian flora are in urgent Mneed of improvement and updating. To construct a conventional substitute of the key to representatives of the Lamiaceae, a data matrix was compiled to include 48 characters recorded for each of the 52 species (with three subspecies and one variety) belonging to 24 genera which represent this family in the flora of Egypt. The 48 characters were accurately defined to cover as much of the easily observable aspects of vegetative and floral variation in the plants as possible. The data matrix was analyzed using the key-generating package of programs DELTA. The analysis produced a conventional key with a detailed description of every species in terms of the 48 characters. The key is decidedly a marked improvement over its predecessors in that it is strictly comparative. Updating the nomenclature of the plants led to the first recording of the genusThymbra in the flora of Egypt. Keywords: Conventional key, DELTA, Egypt, Flora, Lamiaceae, Thymbra. All rights reserved. Abstract Because of the special situation of medicinal plants and their natural product on human health, researchers are interested to discover useful constituents. The present research aims to discover the level of variation in oil of Ziziphora clinopodioides subsp. rigida (Boiss) Rech. f. at full flowering stage in Yazd province. All samples were approved in herbarium of Yazd University and dried out in shade and laboratory situation. Then 50 grams of each sample were powdered. In order to extract the oil of each community, the dried materials were subjected by hydro-distillation method (clavenger types). Resulted oils were dried by anhydrous sodium sulfate and kept in tightly closed vials at 4 °C before chemical analyses. The GC-FID and GC–MS analyses identified 29 compounds among which pulegone (18.1-51.4%), piperitenone (10.3- 23.3%), and 1,8-Cineole (8.6-15.6%) were the major component in all populations. It is indicated that the present result is similar to the previous study. In addition, Damgahan and Tezerjan had the highest amount of essential oil and pulegone in all studied populations, respectively.

  • Flora of Wadi Al-Quff Protected Area, Hebron Governorate, Palestine
Al Sheikh & Mahassneh 47 Flora of Wadi Al-Quff Protected Area, Hebron Governorate, Palestine Banan Al Sheikhª and Mohamed Mahassnehb ª National Agricultural Research Council, Jenin, Palestine and Palestine Museum of Natural History, Bethlehem University, Bethlehem, Palestine [email protected] b Environmental Quality Authority, Ramallah, Palestine ABSTRACT We present data based on a preliminary survey of the flora of the Wadi Al-Quff Protected Area (WAQPA), Hebron Governorate in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT). A total of 231 identified species plus ferns were reported through quadrates 20x20m for trees and shrubs and 1x1m for herbaceous plants. Dominant trees and shrubs include Pinus halapensis, Rhamnus palaestina, Quercus calliprinos, Sarcopotrium spinosum, and Cistus creticus. Crataegus aronia, Origanum syriacum, Pistacia lentiscus, and Styrax officinalis are less common in the reserve and need special attention. Twenty three species are rare at OPT level but were found at WAQPA and thus require protection. Key words: Wadi Al-Quff, Hebron, Protected areas, flora. INTRODUCTION Palestine enjoys a rich flora in spite of its small area due to its geographical position as a meeting point between Asia and Africa, where three phytogeographical regions intersect: Mediterranean, Irano-Turanian and Saharo-Arabian. There have been some studies of the flora of our region (Post, 1933; Zohary, 1966, 1972; Feinburn-Dothan, 1978; Zohary & Feinbrun-Dothan, 1986; Danin, 1992; Fragman et al., 1999; Al-Shaikh et al., 2000). An estimate of 2655 plant species occur in historic Palestine, while 1591 species were recorded from the West Bank (Al Sheikh et al., 2000). More recently 21 additional species were added to the flora of the West Bank (Al-Shaikh, personal communication).
