Soprattutto. © Johanna Schaible © Johanna Tutte le informazioni su www.hamelin.net Il “titolo” di questo numero è una ben nota affermazione di Gramsci, attuale come sempre, e forse più che mai… È sul fronte del pessimismo che si muovono purtroppo gli articoli di Isaia Sales sul riciclaggio bancario del denaro mafioso (un breve saggio che fa chiarezza, che aiuta a capire), di Rinaldo Gianola sulla politica economica governativa, di Alberto Rocchi sul nostro sistema fiscale e le sue ingiustizie evidenti. Andrea Toma analizza i dati che riguardano l’università, Dario Antiseri e Flavio Felice esaminano i pro e i contro del ritorno dei cattolici a far politica, Piergiorgio Giacchè scrive da Perugia del disastro elettorale umbro, la fine di una sinistra da tempo in cancrena. Curato e introdotto da Mauro Boarelli, ci siamo proposti di analizzare una nostra regione poco studiata (altre seguiranno) da più punti di vista: quello di un economista sociologo, Carlo Carboni; della redazione di un’ottima rivista regionale, “Malamente”, che, da Senigallia, fa ancora a suo modo politica; di Silvia Ballestra, scrittrice fermana di talento, sul dopo-terremoto; del critico letterario Massimo Raffaeli sul massimo scrittore marchigiano dei tempi recenti, Paolo Volponi, e di Giulia Corsalini sul massimo poeta e filosofo della nostra modernità, Giacomo Leopardi, sempre attuale. Uscendo da una penisola fiacca di identità e di proposte, Iacopo Scaramuzzi ci narra il Sinodo sull’Amazzonia voluto da Francesco, su cui ragiona anche un nuovo collaboratore, il basco Gorka Larrabeiti. Alessandro Triulzi ci presenta il leader etiope Abiy Ahmed, Nobel per la pace di quest’anno. Domenico Chirico ci dice cosa c’è dietro l’attacco turco al mondo dei curdi, nel Nordest della Siria. Spostandoci a occidente, Alberto Pedrielli analizza il voto canadese e ci fa capire meglio quel grande paese; Livia Apa affronta il Portogallo attraverso le sue recenti elezioni e Jordi Borja la Spagna, nel conflitto tra Stato e Catalogna, e dalla parte della Catalogna. Maria Grazia Franceschelli ci offre infine un quadro prezioso dei movimenti ecologisti in Russia, dall’Artico agli Urali. Torniamo in Italia con la risposta di Ernesto Galli della Loggia alla recensione di Giacchè, apparsa nello scorso numero, al suo saggio sulla scuola italiana e la sua crisi, con il provocatorio intervento di un ottimo insegnante, Livio Marchese, sui pericoli di alienazione di un’intera generazione di ragazzini, a partire da quelli con cui ha quotidianamente a che fare nella scuola in cui lavora. Il suo pessimismo non è condiviso da alcuni “ottimisti della volontà”, forse più del giusto, tra i nostri collaboratori. Qualcosa si muove tra gli insegnanti, ci dice Gabriele Vitello a partire da un grande convegno sulla valutazione, ed è ancora lui ad aver chiesto ad Alberto Delpero un’opinione sull’incompetenza dei dirigenti scolastici, sancita da leggi e burocrazia e, con Mimmo Perrotta, a Cristina Laffi di raccontare le scuole Steiner-Waldorf in occasione del centenario della loro fondazione, mentre Sara Honegger ha ascoltato Sabrina Ricci sui problemi di un asilo nido esemplare. Scendendo nella capitale e uscendo dalla scuola, Giorgio Laurenti ha intervistato Amedeo Ciaccheri sulla possibile vitalità sociale che il sistema dei municipi locali può offrire in una città come Roma. Roberta Mazzanti racconta l’esperienza di Monica Sarsini in un carcere femminile in Toscana. Per la sezione in cui si parla di cultura e di arte proponiamo stavolta alcune poesie di un grande del Novecento, lo svizzero Robert Walser da noi amatissimo; Anna Chiarloni ha intervistato per noi Ingo Schulze, un grande scrittore tedesco contemporaneo, venuto dalla Ddr e che la Ddr racconta; Piero Salabè commenta la figura e l’opera del Nobel per la letteratura (meritatissimo) di quest’anno, Peter Handke; Oreste Pivetta, in occasione di una grande mostra che gli è dedicata a Roma, fa l’elogio di Altan, che ben più che un fumettista è un grande narratore e interprete della nostra stupida Italia; Paolo Bertinetti ha letto l’ultimaspy story di John le Carré, decisamente anti-Brexit; Paolo Mereghetti ha visto l’ultimo film di Scorsese, e ne condividiamo l’apprezzamento, mentre Alessio Trabacchini è rimasto perplesso davanti a Joker. Siamo molto lieti di pubblicare le poesie siciliane di Enzo Mancuso e quelle lucane di Domenico Brancale. Siamo molto tristi di dover ricordare la scomparsa di un urbanista di valore, Giancarlo Paba, per la penna di Camilla Perrone, e proponendo un suo testo esemplare. The Life and Times of Jimmy Hoffa Abstract In light of Martin Scorsese's popular movie "The Irishman," it is a good time to reassess Jimmy Hoffa. He's probably the most famous union leader in American history, but the only thing most people know of him is that he ran the Teamsters and was closely connected to the Mafia. He is often seen as nothing but a corrupt, evil, greedy sellout. The reality is a little different. In this article I discuss his record as a labor leader, the attacks on him by the McClellan Committee and Bobby Kennedy, and his ties to organized crime. I try to contextualize the Teamsters union of Hoffa's era, while at the same time providing a corrective to the public's overwhelmingly negative views of him.

The film follows Sheeran in his later years of life as he reflects on the events that defined his career as a notorious hitman, particularly the role he played in the disappearance of labor leader and his longtime friend Jimmy Hoffa. The film also looks back at Sheeran's involvement with the Bufalino crime family. Bufalino had introduced Sheeran to Teamsters International President Jimmy Hoffa. Hoffa, who became a close friend, allegedly used Sheeran for muscle, including the assassination of recalcitrant union members and members of rival unions threatening the Teamsters' turf. According to Sheeran, the first conversation he had with Hoffa was over the phone, where Hoffa started by saying, "I heard you paint houses" — a mob code meaning: I heard you kill people, the "paint" being the blood that splatters when bullets are fired into a body.
