This is a further exploration of the information in Navajo Weaving Way. Both books have some similar information as well as differences. Again this is illustrated. You could probably work with one or the other. But it's nice to have both. Bennett is recognized as an authority on Navajo weaving. This is a wonderful book -- exactly what I was hoping for. It has step-by-step procedures, with very clear illustrations, but it's also much more than a how-to sort of book -- there is much care taken in the writing, to the thoughts, traditions, and meanings behind why the weaver weaves. If you're looking for a bit of insight about Navajo rug weaving, then this book gives it to you. It even has instructions for a small loom you can build, plus it details how to make your own tools to go with it. It walks you through your first rug weaving, step by step. This is very well thought out and very well written. I'm glad I added it to my collection. The book arrived on time and is in excellent condition. The picture on the front cover is different from the one shown which is a shame because I lost the original copy of this book that I had brought in Navajo county in a fire storm ( along with everything else I owned) and I would have proffered an exact replica. A little point really. If you want to learn about Navajo weaving this is the book! The author is not Navajo, but has lived with the Navajo and has provided a wonderful book for those who are not Navajo and want to learn about the people, their culture, and their weaving. Her experiences and the books she has written reflect her knowledge and respect for the weaving and the people. Readers will appreciate her ability to share and teach. I was able to make a loom!! As advised at the beginning of the book, I read the entire thing through first before starting any project! It is an excellent step-by-step instructional, with good stories thrown in that give insight to the how and why. I have a newer one just like this and have used it many times. I bought this one for my sister. I made her a loom from the book and she is starting to weave. I bought this book for my wife and she said she is perfectly happy with it. She wanted a book that would tell her about Navajo Rug weaving and said that this book tells her exactly what she wanted to know.
