My name is Diane Raevsky and I will be the interim Interlake Career Center Specialist for the remainder of the year. The Career Center has moved to the library. I will be available Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm. Welcome to the Interlake Career Center Communiqué. I will be sending out a weekly newsletter to keep you updated with career opportunities including, but not limited to, WANIC/CTE classes, volunteer service hour opportunities, internships, summer jobs, college visits, and scholarship possibilities. I will not be able to include every opportunity, so please check the career center bulletin board regularly. Of course I will do my best to update the website and send appropriate communications through Naviance. I have included hyperlinks for your convenience so you can go directly to any section. Bellevue College representatives, Ms. Scott and counselors will be available to help you with your Bellevue College application. CTE / WANIC REGISTRATION GOING ON NOW!!! (2017-2018 school year) Summer Registration begins April 25th at 3:00 pm What is WANIC? Washington Network for Innovative Careers (WANIC). WANIC is a cooperative of seven local school districts plus DigiPen and Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Member districts include: Bellevue, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Northshore, Riverview and Snoqualmie Valley. WANIC is designed to help students explore possible careers. Programs are designed in three period blocks allowing extended time to not only learn the theory of a subject, but also to get real hands-on experience. Earn college credits through Tech Prep in thee High School CTE Programs: DigiPen (Online enrollment application through www.Wanic.org): DigiPen Art and Animation DegiPen Music Engineering and Sound Design DigiPen Video Game Programming Information sessions for the DigiPen WANIC courses are held at DigiPen Institute of Technology from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the dates below. Students who apply for a DigiPen WANIC course are required to attend an Info Session as a requisite to their application. Information sessions are available on the following dates: 3/22, 4/13, 5/2, 5/23, 6/14, 7/18 or 8/10. They should sign up https://projectfun.digipen.edu/school-year-programs/college-level-courses Lake Washington Institute of Technology (online enrollment application through www.Wanic.org): Dental Careers Fire and EMS Health Science Careers Medical Careers If you enroll for a Lake Washington Institute of Technology class, you must attend a site visit in order to complete the application process. Site visits are typically scheduled on Wednesdays, (2:00 – 3:00 pm, 3/29, 4/12, 4/26, 5/10, 5/24 or 6/7). See Career Specialist for more information. Additional Important Information: Students that are interested in CISCO or Automotive: Please get your applications in to Career specialist ASAP! These classes fill up fast! Site visit reminders – Some WANIC courses require site visits. Site visits are required for Digipen and Lake Washington Tech. o For many classes, it is important that site visits are completed before May 1st. After that time there may not be spots available and the student may be waitlisted. o Site visit schedules: . Students applying to Digipen must attend one of these remaining Info Sessions: 4/13, 5/2, 5/23, 6/14, 7/18 or 8/10. They should sign up https://projectfun.digipen.edu/school-year-programs/college-level- courses . Students applying to the WANIC classes at LWTech (Dental Careers, Fire & EMS, Medical Careers, or Health Science Careers) must attend one of these site visits: 3/29, 4/12, 4/26, 5/10, 5/24 or 6/7. They don’t need to call first. Students applying to Sports Med at Issaquah High School must attend one of these site visits: 3/15, 3/29, 4/5. They MUST contact the instructor first (Todd Parsons [email protected] or 425.837.6123). Students enrolling in automotive or nursing must do a site visit. The volunteer departments are extremely busy and field phone calls that are often answered by visiting the website. This is your responsibility –having a parent/guardian call for you may lower your chances of getting into a volunteer program. You will help with the animal chore routine, participate in special projects and learn responsible animal care. Limit 1 (ONE) participant per session for either the Farm, Equine, Art, Little Farmers or Log Cabin summer volunteer program. Please choose only 1 volunteer program per participant. Microsoft High school Bootcamp This 3-day summer program provides an enriching environment to learn more about the software engineering field.
