Jeremiah Porter, who spent the last three seasons as an outfielder for the Huskies, will spend his final year in college as an undergraduate assistant coach. After three seasons of playing, persistent injuries forced him to end his career.

Porter, who played high school ball at Columbia River High in Vancouver, Wash., earned letters in 2001 and 2002 after redshirting the 2000 season. He made nine appearances and started three games as a redshirt freshman in 2001. Last season, he collected his first career base hit in his first at bat of the season, doubling in an 11-2 win over Utah last March 1.

As an assistant coach, Porter will work with the Husky outfielders and hitters.

At Columbia River High, Porter earned all-league, all-state and honorably mention All- America honors. In 1999, he led the team to the AAAA state championship and a 30-4 overall record. He also earned three letters and was an all-leaguer in football. He served as captain of both teams and graduated with a 3.6 grade point average.

Porter will graduate with a degree in comparative religion this spring. He is married to former UW gymnast Kim Claussen.
