THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND MINISTER OF OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS (SHRIMATI SUSHMA SWARAJ): On the issue which was raised yesterday in the House, I, with utmost responsibility and categorically and equivocally would like to inform this House that the Government of India has no connection to the visit by Shri Ved Prakash Vaidik to Pakistan or his meeting with Hafiz Saeed there. Neither before leaving for Pakistan nor at his arrival there, he informed the Government that he was to meet Hafiz Saeed there. This was his purely private visit and meeting. It has been alleged here that he was somebody‟s emissary, somebody‟s disciple or the Government of India had facilitated the meeting. This is totally untrue as well as unfortunate. DISTRICT PROFILE - 2017 CHENNAI DISTRICT ORIGIN OF CHENNAI Chennai, originally known as Madras Patnam, was located in the province of Tondaimandalam, an area lying between Pennar river of Nellore and the Pennar river of Cuddalore. The capital of the province was Kancheepuram.Tondaimandalam was ruled in the 2nd century A.D. by Tondaiman Ilam Tiraiyan, who was a representative of the Chola family at Kanchipuram. It is believed that Ilam Tiraiyan must have subdued Kurumbas, the original inhabitants of the region and established his rule over Tondaimandalam Chennai also known as Madras is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, it is a major commercial, cultural, economic and educational center in South India. It is also known as the "Cultural Capital of South India" The area around Chennai had been part of successive South Indian kingdoms through centuries. The recorded history of the city began in the colonial times, specifically with the arrival of British East India Company and the establishment of Fort St. George in 1644. On Chennai's way to become a major naval port and presidency city by late eighteenth century. Following the independence of India, Chennai became the capital of Tamil Nadu and an important centre of regional politics that tended to bank on the Dravidian identity of the populace. According to the provisional results of 2011 census, the city had 4.68 million residents making it the sixth most populous city in India; the urban agglomeration, which comprises the city and its suburbs, was home to approximately 8.9 million, making it the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the country and 31st largest urban area in the world. -

Chapter 1 Computerised Passenger Reservation System of the Indian Railways Chapter 1 Computerised Passenger Reservation System of the Indian Railways 1.1 Highlights Railways did not set out clear milestones or targets for the switch over from BSNL channels to their own OFC network. Even where the zonal railways had chalked out action plans, these were not adhered to and the progress of switch over was very slow. Railways continued to largely rely on hired BSNL channels with recurring expenditure towards hiring of the channels even though there were frequent and extensive failures of BSNL channels, disrupting the PRS services. There were also no service level agreements between the Railways and BSNL explicitly setting out the minimum guaranteed efficiency and penalties for failure and as a result the Railways did not have a structured redressal mechanism against BSNL. (Para 1.6.2) The PRS had design deficiencies necessitating manual interventions during program terminations and link failures. The Current Day Reservation System also posed problems and reservations to intermediate stations were not possible. The Coaching Refund System was not integrated with the PRS. (Para 1.6.3) General controls comprising system documentation, sound IT security practices, change management and structured disaster recovery policy were inadequate. There were deficiencies both in physical access and logical access controls. The total number of users with supervisory privileges was very high and booking clerks were also routinely assigned supervisory privileges, creating a risk of possible misuse of the powers associated with the privileges. (Paras 1.7.1 and 1.7.2) The mechanism of change management was inefficient and policy changes were not incorporated in the system software in a timely manner. -
