Steam Loco at RIGA Paala State Monorail Tramway The Paala State Monorail Tramway (PSMT) was a unique rail system constructed by Maharaja Sir Bhupinder Singh of Paala for movement of people and goods in his state. It operated in Paala state between 1907 and 1927. PSMT was based on the Ewing system wherein rail-guided vehicles use a balancing wheel for balancing. 95% of the load is taken by the single rail and the remaining 5% by the balancing wheel. The PSMT can be seen at the Naonal Rail Museum at New Delhi where it is one of its many exhibits. Musings of the Editor... The first step toward change is awareness.     Brochure on invitation of proposals by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority for documentation of Heritage Buildings in Chennai Metropolitan Area The Second Master Plan for Chennai Metropolitan Area approved under the provision of the Tamil Nadu Town & Country Planning Act 1971provides for Special Rules for Conservation of Heritage Buildings in Chennai Metropolitan Area in annexure XXV of Development Regulations. Justice.E.Padhmanaban Committee Report identified 467 Heritage Buildings / Precincts/ Structures. The documentations of the Heritage Buildings is being carried out by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority in Phases, duly following the procedures for notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette. In the present phase, it is proposed to take up the documentation for 192 Heritage Buildings. An advertisement calling for proposal for documentation of Heritage Buildings form the interested architect is published dailies the New Indian Express and Dinamalar on 10.06.2018. The documentation is to be carried out based on the Architectural, Cultural and Historical aspects by following the criteria and methodology to be adopted for the documentation as enclosed herewith.(Annexure I, II,III) The interested architect shall submit the proposal for documentation to Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority on or before 06.07.2018 to the Principal Secretary/Member Secretary, CMDA, Thalamuthu Natarajan Building, No.1, Gandhi Irwin Road, Egmore, Chennai – 600 008.
