I. NATIONAL HEALTH AND MEDIA SYMPOSIUM (WOMEN, EDUCATION, VIOLENCE, HEALTH, DISEASES) May 23, 2018 Beykoz University Vocational School

Professor Dr. Mehmet DURMAN Beykoz University, Rector With this symposium, I heartily wish that the most important problems of the society, "violence against women" and "health sector" contribute to the current situation by producing fluid solutions. We are very grateful to our distinguished guests who have shared their symposium time with our university hosted by them.

I. NATIONAL HEALTH AND MEDIA SYMPOSIUM (WOMEN, EDUCATION, VIOLENCE, HEALTH, DISEASES) May 23, 2018 Beykoz University Vocational School

Prof. Dr. Gülten KAPTAN ATESOGLU Symposium President / Beykoz University Vocational School Director When people are resorting to violence, they are the beginning of a recovery. They examine the uncontrollable anger to make them feel comfortable.

Violence behaviors that have existed from the past to the recent past continue to be experienced by the individual, the family, the society, the momentum at every level. Violence is the easiest way to defeat what is powerless, or what you want to see powerless.

We have a biological sex and we are gender.

“Last year, only one girl was born in our village. He was the son of all the other families” (Kristof, Nicholas D. 1993. "Peasants of China discover new way to weed out girls." The New York Times, 21 July, 1.)

The target of violence is mostly women and children. This is also the case in this country, in other societies as well. One of every five females is slapping.

Results of gender equality research in 134 countries

Iceland 1. Country with the least violence with 0.83 points

12

According to a survey conducted by the Prime Ministry Family Research Institution, physical violence in 34% of the families, verbal violence in 53% of the families and domestic violence are experienced intensively in our country. The incidence of sexual violence and harassment in families is 9%. 80% of those exposed to violence believe there is not much to do. This implies acceptance of helplessness and leads to passive behavior of the victim (T.C. Prime Ministry Family Research Institute, 1995).

• In which communities are women presenting violence

• Those with certain economic levels

• Less educated

• Highly educated

• Women without economic freedom

• Successful, socially strong women

• Vulnerable women

In what ways can violence be prevented;

Support, Legal ways, Institutional, Information, Psychological support, Violent and practitioner training and campaigns…

Health personnel should be able to identify the individual who is suffering from violence;

• If you have no physical cause but are chronic tired

• If you can not give a reasonable explanation for your injuries

• Extremely gentleman, a wife who never leaves her

• Geologists exposed to physical injuries. ATTENTION !!!!

• Pregnancy is very late pregnancy

• Persons who constantly think of suicide or attempt suicide repeatedly

• late treatment for late-onset injuries.

Everything from media to television, radio and film games, advertising, and social media organizations like Facebook and Twitter can have significant impact on individual and community health. Exposure to the media, especially among young people, can affect health behaviors such as substance abuse, sexual activity and eating habits.

Although women have made considerable strides in decades, our culture has given great importance to how women look. These beauty standards, which are propagated through mass media, are having a huge impact on young women and body images.

If a woman wants to work she can not

A heroic example of a woman; Launched by Mesudiye District of the Army "No to Violence Against Women" project involved the first and only female commander of 's Gendarmerie NCO sergeants station Senay brought Haydar's determination to the point of ending violence against women in the region. (Http://sondakika.beyazgazete.com/yerel- haberler/ordu/mesudiye/)

According to the World Health Organization (World Health Organization [WHO], 2014), 35% of the world's women have either unrelated violence or unrelated sexual violence throughout their lives. Many VAW projects use mass media such as television, radio and newspapers to change the gender norms that are rooted in society in Bangladesh.

At first glance, it may seem like a surprising idea that social media can affect your health. It makes sense if people think about how much time is spent on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other sites.

Anything that covers a large part of your time, including work, watching television, exercising or driving, has an impact on your health. The question is whether social media is good or bad for us. The simple answer is that both can be. Fortunately, there are ways to help reduce harmful effects while maximizing benefits.

How Social Media Influences Your Health

There are several ways that social media can influence your health.

Addiction to social media. People who are dependent on social media can experience adverse side effects such as eye strain, social withdrawal or lack of sleep.

14

Stress. If you are investigating your problems or discussing your problems with your time, you may have stress, which can affect your health negatively.

Emotional connections. Social media can help you connect with more people and keep in touch with your close friends. Health benefits have been proven when people are connected.

Information. You can find a wealth of health information on the social media. This can be quite helpful. On the other hand, if you get random advice before doing the right research, it can be harmful at the same time.

As these points show, there is no simple answer about whether social media is good or bad for you. Since it has such a widespread influence on modern life, it has many positive and negative influences. Let's look at some of these in more detail.

Using social media can benefit communication because older people and those with disabilities may have limited mobility.

Carpal tunnel syndrome. If you do a lot of switching, you may encounter problems affecting your hands or ankles. There are also certain problems with switching on mobile phones, which can strain the tendons of your fingers. Eye problems. You can experience eye fatigue by looking at the screens for a very long time

Fatigue. This is another indication of excessive use of social media. If you stay on Facebook Twitter too late, you will inevitably have a problem with insomnia.

Exercise deficiency. Social media can play away from you or the time you can spend exercising.

One of the most dangerous potential consequences of social media dependence is that you are driving while you are in social media. It can issue invitations.

Staying Healthy on the Social Media

It should be used consciously and moderately, you can have an individual in your social media life and even your health. Things to keep in mind are general tips.

Support social media. Do not let your work interfere with your work or your identity.

If you're having trouble getting out of social media, try productivity apps that limit your access to specific sites. If you have a serious addiction problem, get professional help.

15

Use social media to investigate health problems, but always consult your doctor before you recommend it.

Stay away from social media and communication platforms while driving or doing anything potentially dangerous.

As women, we are exposed to many kinds of physical and psychological violence in every area of life. I would like to find solutions here today and have the continuity of this symposium.

Best regards

Prof. Dr. İzzet BOZKURT

The most important step for communication to be strong today is that the genres formed by different age groups, called X, Y and Z, are understandable correctly. The generation gap between these genres is influential in many areas from social media use to communication accidents. Given the impact of communication and branding on the healthcare sector, social media use and digitalization are an integral part of today's world. Branding is a big part of the health sector as it is in many other sectors. Hospitals reach the goal mass, collect their personal information, and then share interesting messages from social media accounts by sending interesting text messages and e-mails. In this way, brand promotions are realized and gains are increased.

The legal sanctions plans for the abuse of children and women, rape and violence cases, especially pregnancy after rape are planned. I have come across many cases in my professional life. There were cases in many extreme places like the grandchildren who got pregnant among the boys and the boy who lost his father's harassing life. The chemical sterilization / chemical castration method that is on the agenda for preventing these cases is not a permanent endeavor. Because this method is actually a castration, not castration. The drug does not lift the reproductive ability, it is an application which only removes the sexual desires and requests that we call libido of men. In addition, the drug injector lasts for one month and if the drug user does not want sexual intercourse for a month, if the drug is not repeated, the person returns to the original one month later.

Neşe BİLGİNER

TRT Radio and Television Program Producer

As a woman, I have faced many incidents in my 40 years of radios and productions. I can say that the formation of my book titled "Attention Publishing" has provided this for 40 years. It was the days when the radio of the TV was not even read. Everyone in the country has a favorite program, the evening is read by agencies, daytime radio games, back tomorrows only 'voice' to our homes in the days. It is the days when short-wave broadcast radios, especially TRT, are the only source of information at home. It's odd that a novel about it has been written all over the world, and we have not been mentioned much in radio days except for the small thugs. It's like we've been acting like a television since the republic's time.

Media and health should be considered together in a holistic approach. With the use of the media to improve the health sector, there is a situation that affects not only the health vowel but many sectors. It is clear that the media can be used effectively, especially for health education. It is important how much women can reach the mass media, what they find on arrivals and what terchs are. Because the contents are created by examining all these. When 13,000 radio and newspapers were scanned, it was revealed that 21% of the women were involved. In most of the television programs, women are seen as "mothers" and the roles attributed to women by way of this role are always "cooking in kitchen", "raising children", "putting the house in order". The woman is trying to get away from the cam, to get closer to her house.

Hakan EREN

TV Program Producer

The share of ratings and audiences can in fact be regarded as the two most important key points of the production. On the other hand, a woman should not be seen as a ten-something or a sexual figure. Their work on demolishing the perception and the campaigns have begun to be formed on social media again. However, on the other hand, the producers have to offer programs and footage at the request of the spectator. The ratings and watching status of some series or programs, unfortunately, require women to take on roles that they are not and should not be. In this context, awareness must also be made through the media.

ABSTRACT

Breast cancer is an important public health problem that causes millions of women to die each year. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Turkey. The first finding of breast cancer is often breast cancer. 70% of the masses in the meme are detected by women, 25% during the doctor's examination and 5% during the mammography scans. Other indications of breast cancer; nipple discharge, shrinkage, retraction, itching, reddening of the nipple, rough nipple (orange-skinny appearance) and seldom swelling under the armpit. Teaching women with signs and symptoms of breast cancer and early screening methods is one of the most effective ways to reduce breast cancer deaths. Breast cancer awareness training for women is important for early diagnosis. Awareness training can be carried out through public education, social media tools and web based training. Web-based training has been used in public education in recent years. We have not been able to come up with a study evaluating the effects of training conducted to improve awareness of breast cancer in our country, and of evaluating the results of web based breast cancer awareness training. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of web based breast awareness training on the knowledge and attitudes of women towards breast cancer screening.

24

A total of 50 participants (control group n = 25; control group n = 25) participated in the controlled study from December 2017 to March 2018. Data were collected using questionnaire form, Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Form, Breast Cancer Knowledge Test and Health Belief Model Scale. Links to data collection forms created on Google Drive were collected on the phones of participants who reached the criteria of sampling by snowball method and received the sample group before and after training on WhatSap. Web-based breast cancer, which was prepared by researchers and composed of 3 modules (Module 1: Getting to Know Breast Cancer, 2. Breast Cancer Risk Factors and Symptoms, Early Diagnosis Methods in Breast Cancer 3.), Prepared by WhatShap on participants' mobile phone numbers in the intervention group that completed the pretest awareness training program "link. Participants in the control group were not trained. The obtained data were analyzed by man whitney-U test, t- test, Wilcoxon test and paired simple test. The mean age of our participants was 47.7 ± 5.53 years in the intervention group and 46.4 ± 4.93 years in the control group. Breast cancer risk scores were very high in both the intervention group and the control group of our participants (96%). Participants in the intervention and control group were similar in frequency of pre-training CKMM, breast USG and clinical breast examinations. Participants in the intervention group had higher post-training knowledge test scores than the pre-training (p <0.05). The health belief model scale of the participants in the intervention group was statistically higher than the prequalification subscale score (p <0.05). As a result of our study, it was determined that web based breast awareness training may be effective in increasing the knowledge and summaries of women about breast cancer. Considering the increase in the number of social media users in recent years, it is thought that the links of the training programs prepared by women can be reached to the women in the farthest corner by sending them to mobile phones and awareness about breast cancer can be improved and early diagnosis and treatment can be provided.

ABSTRACT

We can say that the series have a wide range in our social culture. It is possible to find a sequence followed by a cut at almost every hour of the day. Moreover, we can also say that in our country, the characters in the series often see their family, our family, and the surrounding atmosphere, rather than their roles. Actors who play evil character on the line have occasionally been exposed to the risk of the challenge, occasionally they have been arrested and the real funeral prayers and martyrs were organized. The characters to be animated and the profile they are drawn on are important. It is possible to say that the series is one of the areas where social messages can be transmitted most comfortably. The purpose of this research is to investigate how women are treated in the Turkish series and how they are reflected. Research was conducted on popular old and current series, followed by an interview with 30 female and 15 male participants and 7 questions.

We can say that a large mass is a sequence of a way to reach in a short time. We may also mention that good characters exist in the series according to our social sensitivities, and bad characters are referred to by hate speech. We have witnessed a process that ranges from series to social culture and even from tea ceremony to series characters like we were in our neighborhood and to evaluating events that occurred in the living room.

26

We can say that women's news, which is often confronted today, is blood freezing in general. This is occasionally seen in female characters who are included in the series because of the place of women in society, women's murders, rape, and violence against women today.

Despite the fact that they handle different topics, they are similar to female characters. Taking into account the social feelings, we can say that this path is followed in order to increase the monitoring of the index.

Popular old and current serials have been researched and briefly shared. An interview was held with 7 question aids. Then, on the series with 35 female and 15 male participants In particular, the boss-secretary, rich man-woman relationships, deceptions, entrances, which are presented to us in the recent past and today, reflect the woman and how these questions are interpreted by the audience

The literature survey on the Turkish series was conducted and interviews were conducted with 50 participants by directing 7 questions prepared with series and women's themes.

ABSTRACT

Today, genetics has an important place in unquestionable terms. It has been the subject of research by scientists that their behavior is due to the growing nature of anger and violence in individuals with intense presence, or by certain characteristics of their genes. Research conducted in recent years has led to the thought that the "warrior gene" found in humans is the main factor that triggers violence and aggression in human behavior. However, research has indicated that this genie is found not only in people with angry behavior but also in calm- looking people. One study has shown that physical aggression is more associated with genetic factors in men. In another study, it was emphasized that the genetic effect is preliminary on the deliberate aggressive behaviors. From here it can be said that not only the way of growing, environment and genetic factors but also individuals play a role in behaviors towards violence. It has been reported that the results of the studies are influential on the behavioral differences in individuals not only in the genes but also in the environmental conditions affecting the functions of the genes. In this study, research approaches used to describe genetic risk factors of violence are discussed..

ABSTRACT

Along with the developments in today's technology, we are faced with a new medium of media every day in communication and information flow. There is a huge increase in the use of social media as well as traditional media all over the world. The social media, which allows the active participation of the user, also offers new opportunities for health communication. Along with the developments in new media technologies, all institutions and organizations that serve in the health sector have to evaluate these new opportunities to influence community health and provide services. Considering the impact of social media on society, studies evaluating the effectiveness of its use in health communication are of great importance. The aim of this study is to determine how university hospitals in Istanbul use social media tools in the context of health communication. As a result of this research, the social media interactions of the hospitals have been examined.

ABSTRACT

Man has been consumed for various reasons until his death from the day he was born to his existence. In the simplest case, it is possible to define consumption through the use of goods and services provided by man. Consumption is the son phase of economic activity. In other words, the purchase of goods and services for the direct reception within the human being. Consumption in the meaning of dictionary is defined as "the use of the produced or made things, the expenditure, the oppression, the production, the anti-production" (www.tdk.gov.tr). It is the only trip that considers the consumption function consciously in the nature. We investigate literature about consumer society.

ABSTRACT

The biologically derived differences between women and men, who are considered as the two main elements of society, are called "gender". ABSTRACT

Development is a process, in which there are critical time periods that can positively or negatively affect development. At this time, children contribute to their development in the context of the interactions they create with their family members and their immediate surroundings and role models that they exemplify. If children are thought to have discovered the world at this time, it should not be forgotten that the role of the media on the development of children opens a window to their world.

Surveys show that children spend most of their time with the media. While children prefer to watch cartoons in the age range of six to eleven, it appears that children prefer to watch series and movies in large numbers at eleven to fifteen years of age. When children are thought to be role models, it is inevitable that the characters in the cartoons or series and the films that they watch are examples of role models. These concepts push us to think about child-friendly media.

As a result, in the media world, children should not be forgotten and various studies about child friendly media should be done considering the children.

Key Words: Child Development, media, cartoon, child-friendly media, critical time
