Please note: Scholarships are divided into 2 categories (Group A -School Awards and Group B – Other Scholarships). Within each category the scholarships are listed alphabetically. Deadline dates are from 2011-12, Students MUST check the deadline as they change from year to year. Apply early and keep a copy for your files, in case, you apply for several awards. GROUP “A” – MURDOCH MACKAY COLLEGIATE STUDENTS ONLY

ARTHUR F. KLINGBELL MATHEMATICS SCHOLARSHIP - TBD The Arthur F. Klingbell Scholarships are intended to recognize 2 graduating students from the community of Transcona who have the highest standing in Mathematics. One student from TCI and one from MMCI will be annually selected and awarded this scholarship. Criteria:  be a resident of Transcona, at least in his/her Grade 12 year  possesses leadership qualities; involvement in community and/or school activities, i.e. a “friend of youth”  highest standing in Math Pre Calculus  must provide proof of registration in a university program leading to a degree of his/her choice  Selection will be made by the school

BOB LAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500 Criteria:  selected by the Vocational teachers  a student who through determination and a positive work ethic has overcome personal and educational difficulties, achieved success, turned his/her life around, and will be continuing in a related career  student will be applying to be an apprentice or attending post secondary

CASERA CREDIT UNION LIMITED BURSARY – 2 @ $500 Criteria:  Based on financial need; community, school activities; and academic achievement  must be attending a post-secondary educational, professional, trade or vocational institution in fall  specific application form – Murdoch MacKay students only  Deadline mid April

CHARTWELLS EDUCATIONAL AWARD - $500 Criteria:  High academic standing; Good all around ambassador of the school  School selected

CUPE LOCAL 4587 RETSD CLERICAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100 Criteria:  A graduate who will be pursuing studies in a business related field at university or college  School selected

DR. & MRS. MURDOCH MACKAY AWARD - $500 Criteria:  demonstrated good character, and excellent work ethic  leadership qualities through involvement with community and / or school activities  financial need; school selected

EDDIE SILVER FASHION AWARD - $1000 Criteria:  for a student who excels in fashion technology  school nominated

FRANCES KUSNER (SHANDRUK) 2 @ $2,500 Criteria:  strong academic achievement - minimum of six Grade 12 courses; evidence of citizenship  school selected

FRED & MARY CORNISH AWARD - $500 Criteria:  Grade 12 student from the four high schools who scores the highest mark on the Provincial English exam.  Pursuing his/her education at the post-secondary level

GOVERNOR GENERAL’S BRONZE MEDAL Criteria:  Presented to the graduating student with the highest academic standing in a minimum of 5 Grade 12 courses, at least 4 of which must be at the University entrance 40S/A level.  Nominees selected by School Administration.

KONRAD SHANDRUK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP – 2 @ $1,000 per year – can be accessed for up to 4 years to a maximum of $4,000 per student Criteria:  Top male and top female graduating student

KYLE JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – 1 @ $1000 Criteria:  an active member of an organized sports program at High School or in the community  both academic achievement and community service will be given priority  the scholarship can be accessed up to three years after graduation  Deadline: May 28 – separate application form; selected by Family

LAWRENCE TOET - $150 Criteria:  80% or higher average  Demonstrates strong leadership qualities; community involvement; strong communication skills  Shows potential to continue to be a leader in their community  Selected by school

LINDA ELKE MEMORIAL STAFF AWARD- $500 Criteria:  Hardworking student who has faced learning difficulties  Someone who may otherwise go unrecognized at Convocation  Going onto Post -secondary education

LINDON BARRETT LITERARY AWARD - $500 Criteria:  Financial need  Good attitude; helpful relationships with students & staff  Good academic record; ideally studying English, Arts of Journalism with a love of literary works

MANITOBA AEROSPACE TECHNICAL SKILLS AWARD - $500 Criteria:  Exceptional performance by a student in the Grade 12 Metals and Aerospace program  Displays the following qualities: team work, reliability, strong work ethic and integrity  School selected (aerospace teachers)

MJ (ERIC) KUSNER.2 @ $3,000 Criteria:  Reasonable academic achievement  Financial need taken into consideration;  Selected by school

M.M.C.I. CLANSMEN FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP – $750 Criteria:  Attends Murdoch MacKay Collegiate  Demonstrates leadership, positive work ethic, active in the community or volunteers  Member of MMCI Clansmen Football team for 2 years  Attending post-secondary on the roster of a Junior Football CJFL

M.M.C.I. SILVER CELEBRATION AWARD - $500 Criteria:  be a graduate of Murdoch MacKay Collegiate Institute  complete one full year of study at a post secondary institute of learning on his/her first attempt  accepted for a second year of study at a post secondary institute of learning, award payable to institute  Applicant’s history of involvement in school, community and work activities will be a major consideration of the Selection Committee.  Deadline: applications mailed to previous year graduates and/or are available at M.M.C.I. and should be submitted by May 31st in year of eligibility

MURDOCH MOTORPORTS SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 Criteria:  High scholastic achievement throughout 4 years in Automotive Technology Program  Attainment of the Manitoba Education and Training 1st level Motor Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship  Participation in the Murdoch Motorsports club

RED RIVER COLLEGE -VICKAR COMMUNITY CHEVROLET SCHOLARSHIP - $500 Criteria:  provide proof of registration at a community or vocational college anywhere in North America  demonstrated good character; excellent work ethic; initiative and/or leadership qualities  Selected by school

R.E.T.S.D. CITIZENSHIP AWARD $500 Criteria:  Demonstrated contributions to the school in a citizenship capacity (socially responsible activities and/or organization)  Assistance with school-based activities; School behavior and attendance are exemplary  Contributions in community as a volunteer

R.E.T.S.D. DEDICATED TO IMPROVE AWARD $500 Criteria:  Student has made significant improvements (in comparison to previous years) in at least 2 of the following areas: o Attendance o Academic performance o General behaviour & cooperation with school expectations o Contributions to the school’s extracurricular program

R.E.T.S.D. HUMANITARIAN AWARD $500 Criteria:  Has displayed outstanding contributions to improving the lot of those less fortunate both in the school& community setting – in a organized activity or in consistent compassionate and responsible behaviour  Has exhibited a pattern of selfless contribution without necessarily seeking adulation or attention

LEADERSHIP AWARD $500 Criteria:  Demonstrated successful leadership of school-based organizations and/or activities  Has exhibited self reliance and has initiated steps leading to successful school activities and/or committee work  Has demonstrated successful leadership in out-of-school volunteer endeavors

A. Gold Medal and cash award of $2000 Presented to the top graduating RETSD student, as determined through interviews of the top candidate selected from each high school. Winner has excelled primarily on academics, leadership and character; and secondly, on involvement in school and community activities and relationship with staff and students. B. Silver Medal 5 @ $1000 Presented to the runner-ups to the Gold Medalist

RIVER EAST TRANSCONA TEACHERS ASSOCIATION $1250 Criteria:  Sole financial award given to student; above average standing  Exhibit exemplary character; demonstrate leadership skills; financial need  Registered for full time studies in a post-secondary institution  Nominated by school staff

THE MARY ANDRE MEMORIAL AWARD - $1000 Criteria:  Rotates between 3 high schools in Transcona  Excellence in academics, strong work ethic  Financial need; Selected by school

TRANSCONA JAYCETTES ORATORICAL - $200 Criteria:  7 – 10 minute presentation on the topic “On the Road to Lifelong Learning”.  must be prepared to speak “impromptu” 2-4 minutes on a topic chosen by judges just prior to competition  selection based on: dress, delivery, manner, language, development, etc.
