European Journal of Literary Studies ISSN: 2601 – 971X ISSN-L: 2601 – 971X Available on-line at: http://www.oapub.org/lit doi: 10.5281/zenodo.1481955 Volume 1 │ Issue 2 │ 2018 A SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE ALBANIAN NOVEL Gjylë Totaji PhD candidate, Faculty of Philology, University of Prishtina, Kosovo Abstract: This study, entitled "A brief overview of the Albanian novel", aims to investigate the history of the development of the novel genre in Albanian literature. It is a short historic view of this genre, where the most essential points of formation of which are touched, from the first novel to the contemporary. Trying to give a glimpse of the story of the Albanian novel, besides beginning the cultivation of this genre in our literature, we have also talked about the novel written during our national and post-Renaissance period, about the novel written after the end of the Second World War, the Albanian novel, written and published in Kosovo, as well as the novel written in Albania after the collapse of the dictatorial communist system. So we tried to include almost all literary and historical periods, so that our brief panorama is more clear and comprehensive. In a word, we tried to make a genre history that is great for studying our literature, especially the Albanian novel. Keywords: Albanian novel, brief overview, genre history, comprehensive overview 1. Introduction The formalist researcher, Mikhail Bahtin considers the novel as the only genre always being in the process of developing, and never as a completed one.”ii According to this point of view, however, we can say that even our novel is a literary structure that is taking shape differently every day. -
The Role of Folk Phraseology in the Enrichment of Literary Work (Case: Mitrush Kuteli)
1st International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference 2018 UDC: 81'373.7 THE ROLE OF FOLK PHRASEOLOGY IN THE ENRICHMENT OF LITERARY WORK (CASE: MITRUSH KUTELI) Rovena Vata The Academy of Albanological Studies, Tirana, Albania E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT itrush Kuteli is one of the most prominent authors of Albanian literature known as a multidimensional man, but his strongest connection has been with the field of paper works. He is often evaluated by two important achievements, which distinguish him among the authors of M Albanian literature of all time. Mitrush Kuteli is the creator of the Albanian modern prose and one of the most famous authors of Albanian modernity. The Kutelian narrative as a narrative process carries the constant presence of the narrator's voice, where Albanian reality appears to be broken, seen from many sides, sometimes close to the real and sometimes close to fantasy. In his narratives, the author emerges in the second plan, leaving room for the folk language, for the use of the language of folklore and especially of the folk phraseology. The folk phraseology used by Mitrush Kuteli has played an important role in enriching the literary work. Through folk phraseology he enriches everyday life, habits, rituals and Albanian traditions, using the language of truthfulness. Kuteli is among the deepest connoisseurs of this phraseology. The folk phraseology inherited from generation to generation constitutes a fundamental matter in the enrichment of the literary work, which complements and widens the literary work, by giving it meaningful, stylistic, emotional and expressive hues. Keywords: Phraseological l units expressing: congratulations, curses, life, death, morality. -

Empathy, Sympathy and Demonization of the Other in the Balkan Literatures
I N T E R N A T I O NA L CO N F E R E N C E RCIC’19 Redefining Community in Intercultural Context Vlora, 2-4 May 2019 EMPATHY, SYMPATHY AND DEMONIZATION OF THE OTHER IN THE BALKAN LITERATURES Mariglena MEMINAJ Departament of Albanian Language and Literature ‘Ismail Qemali’ University, Vlora, Albania Abstract: The profile of the other in the Balkans literatures is as special and complex as its projection onto real life has been through the region’s history. Since the Balkans itself has been a bridge between East and West, being ‘the other’ in relation to Europe and part of it simultaneously, the concepts of self and the other reveal as specific in the Balkans literatures. In these literatures, the other has been the alien, the invader, who came either from a powerful empire or from ‘beyond the fence’—the neighbour, the similar but also the different one all at once. In most cases, this ‘other’ exerted all its influence to spread their culture and, either when being part of an empire or merely a neighbour, cohabited with them for such long periods as to strive to undo the features of their identity. The present paper aims to highlight some features of ‘the other’ in the Balkans literature that make it essentially unique and (considering the work of albanian and serbian prose writers) which, in relation to self, appears in diverse and often opposite positions: it has been demonized at times, but empathised or even sympathised at pthers, and, as everything else of the Balkans, is depicted in strong colours and contrasts, yet essentially similar. -

Media as a challenger of state genocide Safet Zejnullahu UBT – Institution of Higher Education, Kalabria, 10000, Prishtina, Kosovo [email protected] Abstract. The media and state leadership have a strong and inseparable link in the history of the media. In totalitarian regimes, the government finances and controls the media, in regimes with apartheid elements the government closes the media that does not like, persecutes and kills journalists. In democratic societies, state leadership and the media have a financial connection in most of the cases. This paper will address a very specific media situation, that of Montenegro in 1999. Montenegro was part of the former Yugoslavia, which was committing genocide against Kosovo Albanians. But the main media in Montenegro, starting with the public broadcaster, the radio as part of it, and the main newspapers, marked a rare case when the media does not obey the government but takes the side of people in need - Kosovar refugees who, fleeing extermination, sought refuge in Montenegro. -

Who is Hasan Jashari? Hasan Jashari from the village of Likovc in Skenderaj, born in 1916, remains a hasret2 son with three sisters. Since the times were difficult, there was the Serbo-Croatian-Slovenian Monarchy, but the Monarchy of Serbia was ruling in Drenica, when he was two, the Serbian gendarmerie, supported by Albanian-speaking informants, kidnapped his father, that is, Jashar, and suffocated him and threw him into the plum trees well, about one hundred meters from his kulla.3 And as a sign for the corpse to be found more easily when someone looked for him, because it’s normal to look for a person who is missing, on top of the well, the plums well, because the garden was full of plums, they left the tobacco box… so that when someone who came to drink water here, or look for him, would see the tobacco box and say that he was murdered here, committed suicide or drowned in the well. -
