Notre souhait est aussi que vous ayez toujours plaisir à vous retrouver à l’occasion des conférences, films et rencontres que nous organisons ou tout simplement pour faire la fête ensemble. Vous découvrirez dans ces pages tous les temps forts de 2017 ainsi que des articles sur quelques uns des grands objectifs que nous nous sommes fixés pour que le YCC soit la référence européenne du yachting classique en Europe. La voile classique n’est pas réservée à une élite. Au contraire, nous voulons partager notre passion avec des personnes de toutes origines et de tous âges, notamment avec les jeunes générations. Bien que leurs références en matière de performances et d’esthétique nautiques soient bien différentes de celles d’il y a 60 ou 70 ans, quand ils y goûtent, la plupart des jeunes embarqués sont conquis. C’est ce que nous montre depuis 2 ans le Défi des Midships et c’est important dans la mesure ou nous voulons que nos bateaux et la culture qui les accompagne soient un patrimoine vivant que s’approprient les générations montantes. Mais la passion ne suffit pas, les réalités économiques sont telles que quand on démarre dans la vie, l’acquisition d’un bateau classique ne fait pas partie des priorités. Afin de leur assurer un avenir, que nos bateaux continuent à vivre et à être entretenus dans de bonnes conditions nous devons aussi faciliter leur transmission en explorant de nouvelles formes de propriété adaptées à ces réalités. With my background in publishing I was happy to face that challenge, that was very well done the last years. But, I was still not finished with Carmela, a Gustav Estlander Design from 1924 which a friend of mine, Walter Kuhlmann, and me worked on for about three years at that point. Our great aim was to appear at the European Championships in Nynäshamn last year. We worked hard, and there was no time left for the Newsletter. Finally we made it with Carmela to the regatta, but after that event, I was burned out a bit, about the Six Metre subject. It took me some time, but now here is the number 15 of the Classic Six Metre Newsletter. I am convinced about this classic newsletter distribution, but I also recognize the advantages of other media. FROM 1903 TO ABOUT 1933 The following list of the first sail yachts in the Club cannot be said to be complete, nevertheless it provides a record of the better known vessels and was compiled from newspaper files of The Province, News-Advertiser, The World and The Sun during the first three decades of the Club activities. Vancouver newspapers gave very complete coverage of sailing events in that period when yacht racing commanded wide public interest. ABEGWEIT—32 ft. aux. Columbia River centerboard cruising sloop built at Steveston in 1912 for H. C. Shaw, who joined the Club in 1911. ADANAC-18 ft. sloop designed and built by Horace Stone in 1910. ADDIE—27 ft. open catboat sloop built in 1902 for Bert Austin at Vancouver Shipyard by William Watt, the first yacht constructed at the yard. Addie was in the original R.V.Y.C. fleet.     CHAPTER 5 Early International Races SAIL AND POWER As fae as the kecords go, the first international race in which a Vancouver yacht took part was in Bellingham Bay, at Fairhaven, on July 4th, 1891. The local contender was the Siren, a five-ton cutter, 30 feet overall, with 1200 square feet of sail area. She was specifically designed and built by Capt. Billy Watts, founder of Vancouver Shipyard, to outrace all comers. She had her workout in Burrard Inlet on Dominion Day 1891, when Watts outsailed Andy Linton's famous speed queen May, which was skippered by the old maestro, Walter Graveley. So Watts sailed to Bellingham with a crew consisting of J. W. McFie, Dr. Bob Mathison, D. S. McKenzie, Dr. C. H. Gatewood and Jim McKay. At Fairhaven he picked up a local man who knew the tides. The six competing boats included the Ariadne of Herreshoff design, considered the queen of Puget Sound waters. The race started at 10 a.m., with a nice westerly breeze of about ten knots. The first leg, six miles, was sailed with a started sheet. Siren jockeyed herself into the windward berth and boomed off with mainsail, two jibs and a club topsail. "After getting in the lead in the first half mile," Captain Watts recalled many years after, "the lug of the mast band at the shrouds pulled out, so I took in the kites. J. W. McFie, carrying a marlinspike and a piece of new one inch manila, went up that shroud like a cat and had the shroud fastened in less than five minutes.

RULES 1.1 This championship will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 YA Special Regulations Part 2 (Off the Beach Boats) will apply to all entrants. 1.3 RRS Appendix B- Windsurfing Competition Rules will apply to the Windfoil/IQFoil & Techno classes as amended by their class rules. 2. ADVERTISING Advertising is allowed as permitted by ISAF Reg 20. 3. NOTICE TO COMPETITORS Notices to competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board located in the regatta room at the South-Eastern corner for the Club building (where registration occurs). 4. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Any change to the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Notice Board by 0930hrs on the day they take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races shall be posted by 1800 on the day before it will take effect. 5. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 5.1 Signals made ashore shall be made from the official regatta mast located adjacent to the launching ramp. 5.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore “1 minute” is replaced with “not less than 45 minutes” in the race signal AP. 5.3 When flag D is displayed boats shall not go afloat.

Thank you for coming! This program celebrates the winners and participants from last year’s Nantucket Race Week and the Opera House Cup Regatta. We also try to give you everything you need to know about this year’s racing and social events. We are excited to welcome a tremendous fleet of boats, including the stately ELEONORA, the first ever schooner class for the Nantucket Regatta and Opera House Cup, the Wianno Seniors who first visited Nantucket for the Nantucket Regatta in the 1930s, and the beautiful classics who will be on display to the public for the 4th Classic Yacht Exhibition.
