He was much appreciated by both his students as well as his colleagues for his didactic and pedagogical talents as well as for his many human qualities. I cherish many memories of those early days in which I first got to know Prof. Jorge Dias, when I was a still a post graduate student, in 1972. At that time, Professor Dias lived in a house built in the traditional Japanese architectural style, close to our University, along with his wife, Helena, also a professor, and their daughter Sylvia. Despite the fact that I had studied in Brazil for some time, even I acquired the accent of European Portuguese! In fact, my acquaintanceship with Professor Jorge Dias’ family was to have a very strong influence upon my future academic life.
