Access to the Conference ACCESS TO THE CONFERENCE Glasgow is served by three international airports with direct flights from 130 destinations, in addition to offering a well-connected rail network. From within Glasgow there are a number of options that will bring you to our venue in a matter of minutes. GETTING TO GLASGOW By Air GLASGOW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT http://www.glasgowairport.com/ Glasgow Airport is Scotland's long-haul gateway, with some 30 airlines serving around 90 destinations worldwide. The Airport is located just 8 miles (13 km) from the heart of the city and 7 miles (11 km) west of the University. Bus service to the West End of Glasgow (no. 77) which stops minutes from the University with a journey time of about 30 minutes and a Glasgow Shuttle “Airport Express” (service no. 500) directly to the city centre (Queen Street Station and Buchanan Station). For more information on times and fares please visit the Glasgow Airport Express website Taxi fare to Glasgow West End costs approximately £15-20. PRESTWICK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT http://www.glasgowprestwick.com/ Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located 22 miles (35 km) south west of the University and has its own rail station with a 50 minute direct train link from Glasgow City Centre. Bus service (n° X99/X100) and Stagecoach X77 to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow city centre (journey time about 50 minutes) For more details: http://www.prestwick-airport-guide.co.uk/transport.html https://www.stagecoachbus.com/ EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT http://www.edinburghairport.com/ Located 42 miles (67 km) east of the University, Edinburgh Airport serves many of Scotland's only direct routes to other cities, including: Brussels, Madrid, Munich and Zurich. The airport serves Scotland's capital city and the rest of Scotland with major rail and road links to Glasgow. The service Citylink Air connects Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow City Centre (Buchanan Bus Station) with a journey time of just 55 minutes. Citylink Air operates every 30 minutes at peak times, seven days a week. For more information on times and fares please visit the Citylink Air website. There is also a direct train route from Edinburgh to Glasgow city centre running every 15 minutes with a journey time of 50 minutes. For more information: http://www.edinburghairport.com/transport-links/trains By Train Glasgow has the largest rail network in the UK outside London. Glasgow has two main city-centre terminals: Glasgow's Central station and Queen Street station with intercity links to all major cities and frequent services to Edinburgh (50 minutes) and London (5 hours). For timetables see: www.travelinescotland.com By Car Glasgow is well served by motorways (M74 to England, M8 to Edinburgh, M80 to Stirling, A82 to the Highlands and the West Coast of Scotland with the M77). You can plan your route online using one of the free route planners (e.g. The AA or The RAC) Car parking on the University campus and surrounding area could be extremely difficult. For more information on parking reservation go to: Parking requests and reservations By Coach Buchanan Bus Station is the main terminus for long distance coaches. For national services throughout the UK see Megabus and National Express. For more information go to: www.travelinescotland.com GETTING AROUND GLASGOW University of Glasgow campus map (PDF) By Bus The local buses in Glasgow are operated by First. You can get on these buses at pre-designated stops. The number and final destination of the bus are displayed on the front. There is no conductor; you pay your fare to the driver as you board. If you are unsure how much it will be, tell the driver where you wish to go and he/she will tell you. Be aware that First buses do not provide change, so make sure that you have the right amount/plenty of change before you get on board. Routes 4 and 4A run through the main campus from the city centre. Other routes serve Dumbarton Road, Great Western Road and Byres Road. Timetables and fare information can be found on the First website and at Buchanan Bus Station. By Subway The Subway is an underground train that runs in a circle around the City Centre and West End (Subway map - PDF). The trains run frequently (every 10 minutes or so), and the nearest station to University campus is Hillhead. There is a flat fare of £1.20 (single) and £2.40 (return), or £3.50 for an unlimited day ticket. For more information on the subway, visit the SPT website. By Local Train The nearest suburban rail station is Partick, about one mile west of the University. It has an interchange with the subway and with bus services on Dumbarton Road. By Taxi There are numerous taxi ranks around Glasgow where “black cabs” can be found. These taxis operate on a meter system where the cost is based on the journey travelled and time taken for the journey. They can usually hold up to five people. Black taxi cabs can be picked up at most times in the University area and the city centre. You can also phone for a black taxi cab on 0141 429 7070. Private taxis are normal cars (bearing a yellow licence plate) which are not hailed in the street, but booked by telephone. They are slightly cheaper than black cabs. Always make sure you use a licensed taxi. .

Purpose of Report This is a report of the findings of a health stakeholder event with the City Plan Team which provided a retrospective analysis of how health was integrated in City Plan 2 and identified potential health impacts of City Plan 3. The workshop was held in The Mitchell Library on 1 March 2010. Findings in this report are based on the knowledge and experience of those present at the workshop, thus is not a definitive statement or assessment; however appendices are attached that summarise relevant research findings. This report describes the process, the discussions at the tables and the results of the prioritisation exercise. It will contribute to the consultation for City Plan 3. 2. Background The 2006 Planning Act in Scotland requires all local planning authorities to prepare a local development plan scheme to guide new development and regeneration. There are significant changes under the new development plan system, including the production of a main issues report rather than a consultative draft plan and improving public consultation and engagement.
