RTD-DENVER.COM 5 6 RTD-DENVER.COM 2019: the year in review RTD continued to transform the region through transit, experiencing great accomplishments and opportunities, while directly addressing challenges in an attempt to meet the needs of our community. We Celebrated 50 Years of Moving People

In 2019, RTD celebrated a major agency milestone: our 50th anniversary of moving people and creating vital connections across the region. To culminate a year of celebrations, we held a public party at Union Station, complete with dignitaries, music, food, and activities — all with a 1969 throw-back them — to thank our communities for all their support over the past five decades.

8 RTD-DENVER.COM RTD-DENVER.COM 9 We Expanded Connections and Access As part of RTD’s transportation transformation over the past several years, we opened two rail lines in 2019, expanding service into new areas and creating greater access and connections. That makes six projects in three years—unprecedented.

G Line arrives On April 26, 2019, RTD opened the G Line, 11 miles of new rail connecting downtown Denver to Arvada and Wheat Ridge in only 27 minutes. This commuter rail line features eight stations, seven Park-n-Rides, 2,300 parking spaces, and endless connections — all for the cost of a local .

Before opening we were happy to establish quiet zones along the line, so that train horns don’t have to blow routinely at grade crossings. Music to our neighbors’ ears!

10 RTD-DENVER.COM E, F, R extension opens

On May 17, 2019, RTD extended light rail service into the heart of Lone Tree. With three new stations and 1,300 additional parking spaces across 2.3 miles, we created vital connectivity for area residents to the entire metro area.

This project happened through a unique collaboration with RTD’s partners in the South Metro area who contributed cash and rights-of-way that paved the way for RTD to secure a $92 million federal grant to complete the project sooner than expected.

In August, RTD, Transit, and Masabi launched the ability to purchase RTD mobile tickets through the Transit app, offering riders seamless integration among multiple modes of transportation.

12 RTD-DENVER.COM RTD-DENVER.COM 13 We Faced Challenges and Opportunities

Bus and rail operator shortage In a year where 96% of our customers reported they would likely choose RTD in the future, and customer satisfaction was rated at 85%*, RTD also encountered significant challenges. Due to a thriving economy and increased competition for employees, we faced—and continue to face—a bus and rail operator shortage like never before. This problem is also being experienced by many of our peer agencies around the country.

The result is inconsistent service, dropped runs, and mandated employee overtime, making this an untenable situation for bus and rail operators and customers alike.

We surveyed the communities we serve to determine whether they would be in favor of a service reduction while we try to recruit and retain operators. By taking this difficult but crucial step, we strive to restore reliable and consistent service to our customers.

*Reported in RTD’s March of 2019 Customer Satisfaction Survey.

RTD-DENVER.COM 15 16 RTD-DENVER.COM 2020: the year ahead As transportation and the region change, RTD continues to evolve. In the year ahead, we’re evaluating our operations, funding, and emerging technologies to determine how we can best connect people to the places they want and need to go in the near-term and long-term.

RTD-DENVER.COM 23 About RTD Facts and figures

RTD was created in 1969 by the Colorado General Assembly to develop, operate, and maintain a mass transit system for all or parts of Denver, Broomfield, the counties of Boulder and Jefferson, western Adams and Arapahoe counties, northern Douglas County, and small portions of Weld County annexed by Brighton, Longmont and Erie. RTD is governed by a 15-member elected Board of Directors, with each district containing approximately 200,000 residents.
