6 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

GOD BLESS OUR 1ST COMMUNION STUDENTS Our third graders received their 1st Communion at five different Masses on June 13 and June 20. To keep attendance safely within the attendance guidelines of 100 people, we limited each Mass to one class and spread the attendees over both wings of our church. Although some procedures were different, Jesus was present as always in the Eucharist to nourish and strengthen the souls of the children and their family members. Why No Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart Church at this Photos of damage at the Sacred Heart Church rectory Time? - Sunday Mass will not resume at Sacred Heart due to leaking pipe. Top photo is taken from the living Church until the Archbishop reinstates the obligation to room, looking through the kitchen and bathrooms to the attend Mass which he has suspended at least through first floor bedroom. Bottom photo—soggy basement with Sunday, September 6th. This decision was discussed with the Pastoral Council on Monday, June 22nd, and they fans working to dry it out. were in full agreement with this decision. There has been a tremendous amount of planning, and it will take great effort to implement everything that is needed to open safely and still provide for your spiritual needs. On the practical side of things:

1. The capacity and distancing requirements would limit attendance at Sacred Heart to no more than 40 peo- ple. 2. In that Fr. Raymond is nearing his 60th anniversary of ordination he is not being scheduled to be the cele- brant for any weekend liturgies and rarely a weekday Mass. He also will not be distributing Communion. 3. Given that we have fewer Eucharist Ministers availa- ble to distribute communion, the priests will need to be available to do so, especially if we have to use the Parish Hall to accommodate any overflow and possi- bly have a Mass going on simultaneously in the gym. 4. While 40 people is the max at Sacred Heart it is pos- sible that it will be even less than that and is not a good use of the resources available. 5. In addition, all of the planning and execution would also have to be done at Sacred Heart.

So it is my hope that the faithful who regularly attend Mass at Sacred Heart will understand the practical rea- sons for not celebrating Mass at Sacred Heart Church until the Archbishop reinstates the obligation for all to at- tend Mass on Sunday. Sacred Heart Church will continue to be open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thank you for supporting our bulletin advertisers!
