In stores and on tour now Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds soar in the minds of critics “… good news for Oasis fans, who will find plenty of familiar echoes of the Beatles and on Gallagher’s new band’s debut LP ...”-

“Heavily influenced by early Oasis, his first solo album showcases the kind of lonely, beautiful Britpop that made that band great.” – USA Today

“The more talented Oasis sibling bakes his Beatles obsession into a country-tinged magic pie and serves it with a side of street-jazz horns.”- Entertainment Weekly

“Now Noel is returning as a solo artist, stepping into the role of frontman for an album, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, that looks to merge Oasis-like hooks with experimental flourishes like the New Orleans-style ragtime brass section on the first single.”- SPIN

“Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds reveals a softer, dreamier side; it’s full of grandly arranged pop songs and lush ballads with strings and horns – more Abbey Road than Revolver, to put it in terms familiar to any Oasis fan.” – The Village Voice The Duke & The King get their own share of raves as well “I doubt you’ll hear a more authentically moving album this year than The Duke & The King’s domestic debut. … their live show is a powerful, instrument-switching mix of top-shelf troubadour-era showmanship and an old-fashioned revival meet- ing.” - Village Voice

“…this U.S. debut arrives like a greatest-hits collection from about 40 years ago. A soulful strut, abetted by a backing singer who’s a ringer for Sam Cooke, plus subtle psychedelic touches dem- onstrate why they don’t call it classic rock for nothing.” - Spin

“…a set of gorgeous retro-rock…” - A.V. Club

“The four grifters from New York reprise their role as purveyors of fine soul filled folk to once again showcase some outstanding song writing skills coupled with deft and musi- cianship of the highest caliber.” - Contactmusic.com Blurt Magazine steps in with their thoughts on Peter Gabriel “Oftentimes when an artist decides to revisit his back catalog with an orchestra, it is done so with little effort and ends with disappointed fans crying “rip-off!” Orchestra are a good way to fulfill a label contract. They’re also a great way for the creatively bankrupt to turn out product. Labels love to re-sell music to fans and throwing a string section on “In Your Eyes” sounds like the perfect way to fill the coffers. In short, it is usually a last ditch attempt by a fading star and their label to cash in. On paper Peter Gabriel’s New Blood could easily fulfill all of these descriptions and to the cynical listener there is no point in dropping more cash in this age of re-releases and Special Editions. However, for those willing to give this project a chance, there is something unique happen- ing here. Peter Gabriel doesn’t do things half assed. This is evidenced by his 8-10 year gaps between albums. By now his fans know that if he is putting something out, it was worth the wait. This album is the culmination of years of work that began with his Scratch My Back project which consisted of cover songs done with an orchestra. That album begat a tour and that tour begat the New Blood album, a DVD and 3D film release. A typical cash-grab wouldn’t require this much effort. This isn’t just “In Your Eyes” with a string section, it is a long gestating collaborative effort involving years of work by hundreds of musicians, arrangers and technicians. Gabriel has always been a collaborative artist not afraid to work with artists of equal or greater talent. This serves him well as he bought in some major talent to write and perform these new arrangements. Another reason a lot of these orchestral projects often fail is that most rock music has no business being performed by more than a standard rock band on drums guitar and bass. This is where Gabriel’s long time creativity pays off. His songs, whether intimate or epic, organically lend themselves to orchestral arrange- ments and his team knows when to build them up and when to strip them down. Arranger knows that just because you have 46 musicians at your disposal doesn’t mean you have to use them all at once. Case in point is Wallflower which benefits from a sparse while Rhythm of the Heat benefits from the wall of sound that only an orchestra (led by Ben Foster) could create. Red Rain retains its emotional impact and Solsbury Hill is buoyant and celebratory in a whole new way from its original recording. In short, this is an elegant product of hard work and musicianship that shouldn’t be dismissed because it is not entirely new material. That be- ing said, we are coming up on 10 years since Up. Hopefully this will tide us over until we hear what Peter comes up with next.” - Blurt, 10/11/11 Keep up with us at rightarmresource.com and facebook.com/rightarmresource RIGHT ARM RESOURCE WEEKLY UPDATE - 10/19/11
