1: Lead A Normal Life “My family arrived in this country from Spain at the time of the Armada, and the story goes we were adopted by Cornish peasants . .” Peter Gabriel, 1974 “My dad is an electrical engineer, inventor type, reserved, shy, analytical, and my mum’s more instinctive, she responds by the moment – music is her big thing. And I’ve got both.” Peter Gabriel, 2000 HEN Peter Gabriel spoke of rather trusting a ‘country man than a Wtown man’ in Genesis’ 1974 song ‘The Chamber Of 32 Doors’, he could well have been talking about his own roots. For in his 63 years (at the time of writing), Gabriel has spent less than a decade living in a city. Although he keeps a residence in West London, Gabriel lives in rustic splendour at his home by his Real World studios in Box near Bath in Wiltshire, which echoes the rural idyll of his childhood in the Surrey countryside. The physical roots of his life could be a metaphor for his semi-detached relationship with showbusiness; near enough, yet far away. Surrey is less than an hour from London and his residence now is less than 15 minutes from the bustling city centre of Bath. He can get into the middle of things easily when he needs to, yet he remains far enough removed. It is not dissimilar to his relationship with the mainstream of popular music. Whenever Gabriel has neared the big time (or indeed, ‘Big Time’, his 1986 hit single) he has been there just enough to receive acclaim and at times, stellar sales, before retreating back to the anonymous comfort of the margins. -

Michelangelo and the Secrets of the Sistine Chapel”, lo spettacolo prodotto da Artainment Worldwide Shows con la consulenza scientifica dei Musei Vaticani, all'Auditorium Conciliazione di Roma. Protagonista assoluta è la Cappella Sistina. Uno dei luoghi più incredibili della storia dell’arte mondiale è al centro di uno spettacolo che nasce dalla contaminazione di tante e diverse forme artistiche: da un lato l’azione fisica della performance teatrale incontra la magia immateriale degli effetti speciali, dall’altro la tecnologia più avanzata si mette al servizio di un racconto per parole e immagini mai visto prima. L’immersività di proiezioni a 270° porta lo spettatore al centro stesso dell’evento. Lo show ideato da Marco Balich mette insieme alcuni dei più grandi talenti internazionali del mondo della musica, del teatro, del video per offrire al pubblico un viaggio sensoriale unico, un’esperienza emotiva che ha come protagonista principale uno dei luoghi più importanti e ammirati del mondo: la Cappella Sistina. «Con “Giudizio Universale” abbiamo voluto creare uno spettacolo completamente nuovo, in cui la genesi di un capolavoro dell’arte universale viene raccontata mixando tutti i linguaggi che il mondo del live entertainment ci mette oggi a disposizione; il tutto nel più rigoroso rispetto dell’opera di Michelangelo - dichiara Marco Balich -. Seeing Beyond the End of the World in Strange Days and Until the End of the World Abstract Herein we offer a critique of contemporary filmic visions of apocalypse. The problem with many Hollywood-style apocalyptic films is that they expect the end of the world to be a spectacular end of the whole world. Against this, by reviewing two contemporary films (Strange Days and Until the End of the World) we suggest that apocalypse may take on a greater significance if we understand that there are many worlds, and that rather than expecting the end of the world, we should be more vigilant in our examinations of the endings of a world. With this in mind, apocalyptic predictions given by Jesus in the gospels are reread and we note how these prophecies have already been fulfilled. -
