New Teachers and Staff Members

● Joan Turbyville – Principal – A former Sacred Heart Teacher and a former Catholic and public principal who has come out of retirement to serve as an interim principal while the search committee works to find a permanent school leader. ● Emily Broussard – Assistant Principal – Emily was a student at Sacred Heart Cathedral School; she graduated from Maryville and received a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the of Tennessee. She has taught at both Whittle Springs and Farragut High School before beginning her career in administration at Sacred Heart. ● Valerie Hanks – Academic – Although not new to Sacred Heart, after teaching first grade for twenty-one years, Valerie will be using her talents and organizational skills in her new position as Academic Dean. ● Cassie Antunes– Assistant to the Principal and Human Resources – Cassie has worn many hats at Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish. She is the mother of four young children, serves as the co-director for Cathedral Kids, and was most recently a sales associate at the Paraclete Book Store. Her efficiency and calm disposition made her a great fit for this position. ● Maddie Gallegos – Teacher – Last year, Maddie served as a long-term sub for a kindergarten and then a fifth-grade teacher who was out on maternity leave and did a great job. When it was necessary to add a 3rd kindergarten because of increased enrollment, she was a shoo-in for the position. ● Michelle Bender – Little Eagles IA – Michelle and her family recently moved to Knoxville. She has worked as a Kindergarten and Resource Teacher in Catholic in Florida. She loves working with children and will be a real asset to our Little Eagles Program. ● McKinley Mooneyham – First Grade Teacher – McKinley has a Bachelor’s degree in child and family studies and a Master’s in early childhood from the University of Tennessee. She most recently worked as an intervention teacher in the 2nd grade at A.L. Lotts Elementary School. She is interested in educating the whole child through challenging discovery and curiosity. ● Claudette Buccola – Second Grade Teacher – Claudette graduated from Aurora University and has taught in the Chicago area Catholic schools for the past five years. She and her family recently moved to Knoxville. She is a practicing Catholic with proven knowledge of classroom management and curriculum development. ● Katie Esco – Third Grade – Katie is familiar to Sacred Heart, as last year she worked with the Department as an intervention teacher for the middle school. This year, she transitioned to the third grade, where she will be team teaching with Kirsty Kalafsky. ● Madeline Filicky – Fourth Grade – Math and Religion –Madeline is a 2021 graduate of Tennessee Tech University. She is a familiar face because she has worked with the after-school program and summer program here at Sacred Heart. ● Leah Bogatuik – Fifth Grade Math – Leah will be serving as a long-term sub for Rachel Norris, who is on maternity leave for the first quarter of this year. ● Sharon Sanders – Sixth Grade ELA – Sharon is a former Sacred Heart student. She received a Master’s in Teaching from Belmont University in Nashville. She has taught in Nashville, the Bahamas, Knoxville, and Maryville. ● Amy Canapa – Seventh Grade ELA – Amy is coming to us from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she taught in the Messemer Catholic Schools. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University and a Master’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University. ● Mari Beth Tackett – Eighth Grade ELA – Beth is coming to us from Texas. She is moving to Knoxville to be closer to family in Kentucky. She has a degree in English and East Europe Studies. She has taught in Slovakia and, more recently, has taught Reading, Grammar, and Writing in Dallas and Irving, Texas. ● Gregory Duchak – Middle School Religion – Gregory is our Echo Teacher for the next two years. He graduated from the University of Dayton in May of 2021. He completed a program in and Religious Studies in Rome in the Spring of 2020. ● Deborah Lay – Librarian – Deborah has a Master’s in Information Science from the University of Tennessee. She comes to us with 20 years as a Library/Media Specialist with the Blount County School System. ● Victoria Solomon – Middle-School Intervention – Victoria graduated from King University with a degree in Elementary Education. She has worked as a tutor and teaching assistant as well as a 4th-grade faith formation teacher at Our Lady of Fatima in Maryville. She has an interest in pursuing a Special Education Certification. ● Kaylin Johnson – PE/Athletic Director – Kaylin has been promoted to Athletic Director and Middle School PE teacher and will coordinate the many athletic teams and their schedules during the 2021-2022 school year. ● Geraud Hall – PE Teacher/ Grade 5 IA – Geraud, better known as Rah Rah, has been a basketball coach here at Sacred Heart and is currently the JV boys’ basketball coach at KCHS. He has also worked as an IA at West Hills Elementary School, which makes him a perfect fit for this position.
