A SERIES of BIBLE STUDIES on VARIOUS SUBJECTS by RICHARD MERRELL (Australia 2000) These Studies Will Reflect the Teachings of Th A SERIES OF BIBLE STUDIES ON VARIOUS SUBJECTS BY RICHARD MERRELL (Australia 2000) These studies will reflect the teachings of the Early Church, the Apostolic teachings of those who were the disciples of the Apostles. These are called the Ante Nicean Fathers. "Because therefore that we are justified by faith, we are at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1 "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, which is the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all men.." 1 Timothy 2:5 "Study to shew thyself laudable unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, dividing the word of truth justly." 2 Timothy 2:15 "For all scripture given by inspiration of God, is profitable to teach, to improve, to amend and to instruct in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect and prepared unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16 TYNDALE'S NEW TESTAMENT 1534 Please TAKE any study or you want, ALL is FREE to the 'body of messiah' for if I charged money for that which is of God I would be as the userers and merchandisers whom our Lord drove from the temple with a whip. For the shepherds are not to get rich by robbing the sheep and lording it over them, but they are to lead by example, see I Peter 5:1-4. The word 'DIDACHE' is Greek and means 'doctrine/teaching' I believe in the 'Kanon' or 'RULE' of faith. Therefore I present this teaching/doctrine, my words to you are those of Jude; "Beloved, while I was very diligent to write you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." Jude 3. Knowing that I shall receive greater judgement at the 'seat of Messiah' for what I have taught is a sobering thought to me. Thus I present my work to you as a gift from our Lord and Saviour Joshua the Christ. I have included texts from Early Church Documents by the Apostolic Fathers; so that you might gain some insight into the 'FAITH' which was 'ONCE' delivered to the saints. It's verily in the love of Joshua I just want to share with you the wonderful blessings that God has bestowed upon me, through the poems He has given me, and Bible Studies that He has by grace allowed me to write. ( For instance, the early church knew nothing of a rapture before or in mid seven years, they taught that the church would suffer tribulation, that Joshua would come at the end, 'catch up' the church and destroy the wicked one. ) that is the 'faith once delivered to the saints' see my study PAROUSIA, God bless you richly as you read what I've written in Yeshua' name, amen !! IT IS TO BE NOTED THAT I STAND WITH THE APOSTLES AND THOSE WHOM THEY TAUGHT Page 1 ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT I USE THE NAME YESHUA FOR OUR LORD, THAT IS HIS NAME IN HEBREW, JOSHUA BEING THE ENGLISH FORM, THE NAME JESUS COMES FROM THE GREEK IESOUS. THE WORD MESSIAH MEANS ANNOINTED, AGIN IT IS HEBREW, THE GREEK FORM IS CHRISTOS, THE ENGLISH FORM BEING CHRIST. THUS OUR LORD CAN BE CALLED YESHUA THE MESSIAH, YOSHUA OR JOSHUA THE MESSIAH OR JESUS THE CHRIST. I begin with one of my poems FOR ME ! I was standing in a crowd one day And there was such a din Everyone was crying out; "Away and crucify Him!" I asked of one standing near "What means this they're screaming?" He told me that the one on trial Was guilty of "blaspheming." "How" I asked "is this - what is it he has done?" The other one replied "Said He and God were One." And as I then beheld this man Who had been scourged and blamed; I could not tell just what it was ? But I felt so ashamed. For I could see within His eyes As he looked back at me; One who was a loving friend He was no enemy. And on the hill called Calvary Outside that City gate, They nailed Him to His heavy Cross Then they reviled with hate. As I approached His dying form I saw the blood-soaked ground; I cried, I fell down at His feet My Saviour I had found. For into His eyes again I'd looked And this time I did see, He had no need to say one word - 'cause He was there FOR ME ! Page 2 The blood of Jesus is 'precious blood' it is also 'Holy blood'. Jesus entered heaven with His blood having obtained eternal redemption Hebrews 9:12 We too can enter by His blood, through the veil, His flesh, this explains to us the curtain tearing in twain when Jesus died, He opened the way for us to stand before the 'seat of grace'. We are encouraged to enter by a new and living way. Hebrews 10:19, 20. Amen STUDY I by Richard Merrell PO Box 107 Wentworth Falls NSW Australia 2782 SERMON THE TRUTH OF THE FAITH ONCE DELIVERED...JUDE 3 Salutations and may the grace of and shalom from God the Father and from our Lord Yeshua/Jesus be with each of you who are the sons and daughters of the common faith...AMEN Now, let's take a look at what the SCRIPTURES and the EARLY CHURCH taught of the return of our Lord Yeshua. I declare to all who read this by the truth of Messiah and his apostles that there is NO pre tribulation or secret coming of Lord Yeshua for the church!!! The coming of our Lord is PRE WRATH The saints are CAUGHT UP at the END, and not before or in mid seven years. 'UNTIL THE FULNESS OF THE GENTILES BE COME IN' Romans 11:25 Romans 11:25-27 makes it perfectly clear that 'blindness in part has happened to Israel until the times of the gentiles be COME IN.' Then and only then will the 'Deliverer come out of ZION.' The term fulness of the gentiles is to do with the wild Olive branch vss 17-24 being complete. 'UNTIL THE TIMES OF THE GENTILES ARE FULFILLED." Luke 21:24 Lord Yeshua spoke, ' And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles, until the times of the gentiles be fulfilled. Most people interpret these words of our Lord to refer to Israel's whole history of Gentile dominion coming to a close, I believe rather, that Lord Yeshua was really speaking of the prophecy of Daniel 12:7, Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times and half a time. Later, it is recorded in the Apocalypse, And I was given a reed like a measuring rod. and the angel stood, saying, "rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the GENTILES. And they will tread down the holy city ( Jerusalem ) underfoot for forty two months" or a ( time, times and half a time) Apocalypse 11:1 At the end of this three and a half year period, the Gentiles ( wild Olive tree) will have come to fulness and ALL Gentile times of trampling down Jerusalem will have also been fulfilled. The blindness will Page 3 have been removed from Israel, for 'the Deliverer will come from Zion' Romans 11; 26,27; and 'every eye shall see him, even those who pierced him.' The Apocalypse 1:7. It behoves all who are taught things to check the scripture to see if these things be so, now a right dividing of the scripture will show that....THIS IS THE TIME OF LORD YESHUA'S SECOND COMING AND THE CATCHING UP OF THE CHURCH !! The chiliad period ( millenium) will commence, and the Lord Yeshua will then restore the kingdom to Israel see Acts 1:6 The teaching of a SECRET RAPTURE of the church is FULL OF HOLES when viewed under the LIGHT from the New Covenant, the very same way that the teaching of evolution does NOT hold up under the same LIGHT..ie: the LORD YESHUA/JESUS. LET US BEGIN WITH THE WORDS OF OUR LORD YESHUA read Matthew 24 and Mark 13 1. False Messiahs will come. 2. As lightning comes from East and flashes unto the West, so also shall he coming of the Son of Man be. 3. Immeadiatley AFTER the TRIBULATAION (great tribulation) Matt. 24:21. 4. THEN will the sign of the Son of Man appear, Matt. 24:30. Note here must be taken of the Apocalypse 1:7. 5. THEN he shall send his angels with the sound of the SHOFAR/TRUMPET to gather the elect...Matt. 24:31 Note must also be taken here to the words of 1 COR. 15:51,52; 1 THESS. 4:15-17; regarding the SHOFAR/TRUMPET, and review the Apocalypse 10:11; 11:15-18 (the second coming) also note that the key to the Apocalypse is the little book of seals the Apocalypse chapters 5 and 6. Now as to the SHOFAR/TRUMPET, it is the herald of the TRUE fulfillment of the feast of the Lord called Rosh HaShannah or 'FEAST OF SHOFARS' (TRUMPETS) see LEV.

AUGUSTINE ON SUFFERING AND ORDER: PUNISHMENT IN CONTEXT BY SAMANTHA ELIZABETH THOMPSON A Thesis Submitted in Conformity with the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of Philosophy University of Toronto © Samantha Elizabeth Thompson 2010 Augustine on Suffering and Order: Punishment in Context Samantha Elizabeth Thompson Doctor of Philosophy Department of Philosophy University of Toronto 2010 Abstract Augustine of Hippo argues that all suffering is the result of the punishment of sin. Misinterpretations of his meaning are common since isolated statements taken from his works do give misleading and contradictory impressions. This dissertation assembles a comprehensive account of Augustine’s understanding of the causes of suffering to show that these views are substantive and internally consistent. The argument of the dissertation proceeds by confronting and resolving the apparent problems with Augustine’s views on sin and punishment from within the broader framework of his anthropology and metaphysics. The chief difficulty is that Augustine gives two apparently irreconcilable accounts of suffering as punishment. In the first, suffering is viewed as self-inflicted because sin is inherently self-damaging. In the second, God inflicts suffering in response to sin. This dissertation argues that these views are united by Augustine’s concern with the theme of ‘order.’ The first account, it argues, is actually an expression of Augustine’s doctrine that evil is the privation of good; since good is for Augustine synonymous with order, we can then see why he views all affliction as the concrete experience of disorder brought about by sin. This context in turn allows us to see that, by invoking the ii notion of divinely inflicted punishment in both its retributive and remedial forms, Augustine wants to show that disorder itself is embraced by order, either because disorder itself must obey laws, or because what is disordered can be reordered.

Although Augustine is one of the Fathers most enthusiastically and thoroughly researched, his letters are less studied than his other works. As a significant number of Augustine’s letters were written as part of his effort to unite the Donatists with the Church, they are especially relevant sources for his views on the unity and authority of the Church. While no single work of Augustine covers the entire period of his dealing with the Donatists, the letters witness to Augustine’s activity against the Donatists from the time he became a priest up to 418.

THE BIBLE VERSUS TRADITION IN WHICH THE TRUE TEACHING OF THE BIBLE IS MANIFESTED, THE CORRUPTIONS OF THEOLOGIANS DETECTED, TRADITIONS OF MEN EXPOSED. www.CreationismOnline.com BY AAEON ELLIS REVISED AND MUCH ENLARGED BY THOMAS READ. SECOND EDITION. PUBLISHED AT THE OFFICE OF BIBLE EXAMINER, 1853. JOHN J. KEED PRINTERS, NEW YORK Page 1 PREFACE Our Title would seem to indicate that we have exposed every case where the “Traditions of men have made void the word of God.” But not so: this would require volumes. But by attacking error in its strongest hold, we do much to overturn its whole foundation. And we venture to affirm that he who shall embrace the truths treated of in this book, will be desirous of pursuing the investigation still further. In these pages we 'have more particularly confined ourselves to the scriptural elucidation of The Mortality of Man, The Unconsciousness of the Dead, and the Destruction of the Wicked; but we have likewise investigated the Nature of Man, The Penalty of the Law, The nature of the Sacrifice of Christ, Endless Life obtainable only through Christ. The Resurrection of the Dead, The nature of Hell, The Gospel of the Kingdom and its Location, and various other matters that are not .generally understood in these days of fables. The Immortality of the Soul, and the necessary departure from the sense of Scripture which this belief requires, are the basis of all sectarianism and of all creeds. These abandoned, and the way is opened to the introduction of a purer Christianity, based solely upon the Word of the Living God.

  • A Service of TENEBRAE
A Service of TENEBRAE WEDNESDAY IN HOLY WEEK St Paul’s Church in Englewood an Episcopal Parish in the Diocese of Newark and the Anglican Communion 1 TENEBRAE The service of Tenebrae, which means “shadows” or “darkness” in Latin, is taken from a special form of Evening Prayer used on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Holy Week. It is an extended meditation on the cross of Christ. Using scripture passages, music, and light, the story of Jesus’ betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion is retold in dramatic fashion. We experience a small portion of Christ’s pain and suffering as we observe the various services throughout Holy Week. During this service, candles are gradually extinguished and the lights dimmed until only a single candle, considered a symbol of Christ, remains. Toward the end of the service, the ‘Christ candle’ is hidden, illustrating the apparent victory of the forces of evil over good. At the very end, a loud noise is made, recalling the earthquake at the time of Jesus’ death (Matthew 27) and his resurrection (Matthew 28:2). The hidden candle is then restored to its place, symbolizing the triumph of Christ over death. By this single light, we all depart in silence. During the service, the congregation is invited to sing the psalms with the Choir. Please stand as the ministers enter. First Nocturn Psalm 69 Salvum me fac Tone II 1 Save me, O God, * for the waters have risen up / to my neck. 2 I am sinking in deep mire, * and there is no firm ground / for my feet.

TENEBRAE A SERVICE OF DARKNESS AND SHADOWS 2 APRIL 2021 GOOD FRIDAY TENEBRAE SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH! WELCOME! If you are a visitor to St. John’s, we sincerely welcome you. Perhaps you live in the neighbor- hood or nearby area and decided to drop in, or you are visiting from another parish or faith tradition in the Twin Cities, or another part of the country. Whatever the case, we are glad you are here to join us in worship of Jesus Christ Our Lord. For more information about the parish, to register, or to ask a question, visit our Welcome Desk in St. Paul Plaza. Monthly new parishioner registrations take place on the Second Sunday of each month after all Masses in the parish hall. Come and see what the parish has to offer you and your family. Also, we sing to give glory to God, but want to make sure we can continue to do so in a safe way. Therefore, we ask that you please keep your mask on and sing softly during Mass. Only persons five years old or younger or have valid medical reasons are exempt. Thank you for understanding. Christ redeemed humankind and gave perfect glory to God chiefly through his paschal mystery: by dying he destroyed our death and by rising he restored our life. The Easter Triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is thus the culmination of the entire liturgical year. What Sunday is to the week, the solemnity of Easter is to the liturgical year. The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Liturgy of the Lord's Supper, and reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil.
