Press Release Assist leti im Danı manlı ı Gökçe KÜÇÜKERDEM [email protected] 0212 233 61 16 “TIMELESS SIMPLICITY” AT REZAN HAS MUSEUM The Opening Exhibition of the 11th International Conference on Oriental Carpets hosted by Kadir Has University, dated April 18, 2007 will be presented to the admiration of the art lovers with Gönül Paksoy’s textile collection named “Timeless Simplicity” consisting of costumes designed with the fabrics dating back to the Ottoman period. Inauguration of the exhibition will be held at Rezan Has Museum in Cibali Campus of Kadir Has University, and menu of the exhibition includes a selection of flavors from New Year’s food prepared with the specific and outstanding recipes of Gönül Paksoy which has become a tradition. Authentic Carpet and Weaving Conference Istanbul meeting that will be held between 19 and 22 April 2007 carries the socio-economic heritage and wealth of the Turkish culture to today and to the future within a rich diversity of artistic collections through historical and geographical dynamisms. The conference will bring together an influential gathering of international scientists, experts, collectors of antique and authentic carpets and institutions; and carpets, flat tapestry woven rugs (kilims) and cushions that were used in houses, mosques, palaces and caravansaries throughout the historical trade ways from Asia to Caucasians and to Anatolia and costumes dating to this period restored for this conference will be presented to the admiration of the attendees through the exhibitions in Kadir Has University Rezan Has Museum, Dolmabahçe Palace, Sadberk Hanım Museum, Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Topkapı Palace and also through the exhibition in Vakıflar Carpet and Kilim Museum and Special Collectors exhibition in Tophane-i Amire. Prof. Levent Soysal January, 2017 AP PE ND IX C Cultural industries have become an inevitable part of an urban structure of the global cities. Istanbul is a fascinating case to grasp that taking place of cultural industries in an urban structure in terms of transformation of the city in line with the trends of globalization. This thesis primarily presents that newly emerged cultural topography of Istanbul by mapping cultural industries. Following the narrow conceptualization of cultural industries, that refers to institutions which exhibit, circulate capitals based on arts, culture, and knowledge, residing of seven different categories of cultural industries in Istanbul are mapped by their geo-referenced data. Museums, universities, cultural centers, art galleries, convention and exhibition centers, festival and concert halls, and bookstores are mapped one by one as well as all. The results show that existing city center is culturally reified by cultural industries. Moreover, the triangular shape of culturally reified city center, Istanbul’s triangle, is revealed by intersection of intensification of cultural industries and the route of tramline, which has a positive correlation with the route of intensification of cultural industries.
