CIRCLES AROUND THE By: Emmanuellar Asiedu WORLD SCAVENGER HUNT PROJECT GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE •The Golden Gate Bridge is 8,981 feet long (1.7 miles) and contains about 88,000 tons of steel. • The towers stand 726 feet above the water and 500 feet above street level. They weigh 44,000 tons each and are 4,200 feet apart from each other. •Near the Golden Gate Bridge , the waters have depths of more than 300 feet, for example, and the depth is more than 100 feet between Angel Island and Alcatraz. •The Golden Gate has an advanced security system with motion detectors and security cameras. TOWER OF PISA •The construction of the Tower of Pisa began in 1173 and was completed in the 14th century, in 1399. •The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Torre pendente di Pisa) is a bell tower in Pisa, Italy. It’s also the world famous for its prominent tilt to one side. •As well as the tower, Pisa's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo or Piazza dei Miracoli) also has a cathedral, a baptistery and a cemetery. •The entire Cathedral Square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. PICCADILLY FERRIS WHEEL •The Piccadilly Ferris Wheel also know as London eye is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. •The London eye is the largest observation wheel in the world, built in 1999 on the south bank of the river Thames in London. It stands at 135 metres high, it gives one a panoramic view of London up to 25 kilometres in all directions. •The London Eye was formally opened by then prime minister Tony Blair on 31 December 1999. On March 2020 they celebrated the 20th anniversary BIG BEN CLOCK TOWER •The Big Ben was built on September 28,1843. •The Palace of Westminster was destroyed by fire in 1834. In 1844, it was decided the new buildings for the Houses of Parliament should include a tower and a clock. •The tower was designed by the English architect Augustus Pugin and completed in 1859. •Although Big Ben is commonly used to refer to the tower as a whole, the nickname actually refers directly to the clock tower’s largest bell, weighing a staggering 13.5 long tons. ALDAR HEADQUARTERS BUILDING •The Aldar Headquarters building is the first circular building of its kind in the Middle East. •The shape of this building is achieved through the use of structural diagrid, a diagonal grid of steel. •Aldar Headquarters has a distinctive design and innovative building facades hemispherical comprising two circular shaped convex, joined by a narrow strip of corrugated glass. •The Aldar Headquarters was built in 2010. GUANGZHOU CIRCLE •Guangzhou Circle is a landmark building located in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, China. • The Guangzhou was built by Joseph di Pasquale architect in Guangzhou, China On December 16th 2013. •It is the headquarters of the Hongda Xingye Group and the new home of Guangdong Plastic Exchange. •Guangzhou Circle Mansion has a total floor space of 85,000 sq m (914,000 sq ft), spread over 33 floors, and is 138 m (452 ft) high, with the circular hole measuring 48 m (157 ft) in diameter. .
