The ATSDR toxicological profile succinctly characterizes the toxicologic and adverse health effects information for the hazardous substance described therein. Each peer-reviewed profile identifies and reviews the key literature that describes a hazardous substance's toxicologic properties. Other pertinent literature is also presented, but is described in less detail than the key studies. -

Chlorendic Acid in 1977 (TSCA 1979)
SUBSTANCE PROFILES importer of chlorendic acid in 1977 (TSCA 1979). The Chlorendic Acid manufacturer/importer reported zero production, but the TSCA CAS No. 115-28-6 Inventory estimated that 3 million to 30 million lb of chlorendic acid were produced or imported in 1977. No data on chlorendic Reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen acid exports were available. First Listed in the Fifth Annual Report on Carcinogens (1989) Exposure Cl O The primary route of potential human exposure to chlorendic acid is Cl C dermal contact, while some small exposure may possibly occur OH through inhalation. It is manufactured in an essentially closed system Cl C O which would seem to minimize, although not eliminate, potential Cl Cl C occupational exposure during the manufacturing process (NTP 1987). Cl OH When used as a reactive flame-retardant or hardening agent, chlorendic acid bonds covalently to the polymer, resulting in less Carcinogenicity potential for human exposure. In its uses as an extreme pressure Chlorendic acid is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based lubricant and a chemical intermediate, there is the possibility of on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals (NTP human exposure to chlorendic acid. Chlorendic acid was not listed in 1987). When administered in the diet, the compound was the National Occupational Exposure Survey, conducted by NIOSH carcinogenic in male mice and in rats of both sexes. These three types of standards are dealt with below. The point of departure in setting standards for environmental policy as a whole is the risks involved. This strategy is set forth in the document Premises for Risk Management [Omgaan met risico’s]. The risk-based approach in environmental policy (Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM), Lower House of Parliament, parliamentary proceedings 1988-1989, 21 137, no. 5). Degradation Products NDOKIARI BOISA (Ph.D.) Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, P.M.B. 5080, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt, Nigeria ABSTRACT: The photo-catalytic degradation of chlorendic acid in the presence of TiO 2 was conducted to investigate the reaction pathways and possible degradation products as a means of assessing the environmental legacies of polyesters that are designed with both chlorendic acid and TiO 2 chemicals.
