    MARÍA TERESA DE BRAGANZA BORBÓN, PRINCESA DE BEIRA: 1 UNA INFANTA VALIENTE EN EL SIGLO XIX ALEXANDRA WILHELMSEN Universidad de Dallas RESUMEN: María Teresa de Braganza Borbón (1793-1874), Princesa de Beira, era la hija mayor del Rey Juan VI de Portugal y de la Infanta Carlota Joaquina de España. Se casó con dos Infantes españoles. Ella y Pedro Carlos tuvieron un hijo, Sebas- tián Gabriel, nacido en Brasil en 1811. Después de un cuarto de siglo de viudez Maria Teresa se casó con Carlos María Isidro o Carlos V, el primer Reclamante legitimista. Durante siete años miles de españoles le consideraban Reina con- sorte de España sin corona. La Princesa de Beira tuvo una vida muy accidentada a causa de los cambios políticos y las guerras durante la transición larga entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Régimen. Como todas las figuras reales de la época estuvo en el ojo del huracán. Su caso fue más dramático que el de muchas princesas porque se comprometió con el movimiento político que fue perdiendo terreno a lo largo de los años. Maria Teresa de Braganza vivió una vida de contrastes. Pasó treinta y nueve años de esplendor en las Cortes de Lisboa, Madrid, y la exótica de Río de Janeiro. Por otra parte, huyó de Napoleón cuando envió tropas a Portugal, fue llevada a Andalucía como rehén por el gobierno del Trienio Constitucional, pasó dos años a las carreras en medio de dos guerras civiles en Portugal y España. Cuando tenía cuarenta y cinco años cruzó Francia de incógnito en un viaje de capa y espada mientras le buscaba la policía.

A prática vocal carioca durante o periodo joanino Alberto José Vieira Pacheco (Universidade Nova de Lisboa FCT) [email protected] RESUMO: Em 8 de março de 1808, a corte portuguesa se estabelecia em seus domínios americanos, refugiando-se do exército napoleônico que naquele momento avançava sobre Portugal. Sendo assim, a então capital do Vice- Reino do Brasil, se viu repentinamente elevada à sede do império português. Isto foi o início de uma série de mudanças políticas e sociais que levaram à indepedência do Brasil em 1822, cerca de um ano após o retorno da corte portuguesa à Europa. No meio de tantos acontecimentos, o meio musical carioca foi profundamente transformado. O que pretendemos neste texto é descrever como a presença da corte portuguesa influênciou a prática vocal no Rio de Janeiro. Para tanto, identificaremos as mudanças no meio musical carioca seja nas igrejas, nos teatros ou nos salões. PALAVRAS CHAVE: Prática Vocal - D. João VI Guerras Napoleônicas ABSTRACT: On 8 March 1808, the the Portuguese court established itself in its American dominions, seeking refuge from Napoleons army which had taken possession of Portugal. Thus, what had hitherto been the capital of the Viceroyalty of Brazil, found itself elevated overnight to the headquarters of the Portuguese Empire. This was the beginning of a serires of political and social changes that would lead to the independence of Brazil in 1822, almost a year after the return of the Portuguese court to Europe. In the midst of all these events, musical life in Rio underwent a process of profound transformation.

Abstract: The research “The Manor House in Lisbon and in Rio de Janeiro: Interior’s Anatomy” started in 2012, promoted by Portuguese and Brazilian researchers. It resulted in a common digital platform, in order to register, study and disclose Portuguese-Brazilian heritage, in a perspective of pedagogical and informative action. The project proposes the study of manor houses of the nobility and high bourgeoisie of the XVII, XVIII and XIX centuries, addressing various aspects of their interiors, at first in two regions of the cultural and artistic Portuguese-Brazilian world. This study has an original character as it proposes the integrated evaluation of the spatial organization of domestic spaces, their decoration, appliances and objects, as well as the daily practices of Portuguese and Brazilian elites, in their mutual influences, in an evolutionary approach during three centuries. The digital platform enlarges the reach of the project, allowing the sharing of information and quickly and easily disclosing the results of the research.

    Journal of Global Theatre History Volume 1, Number 1, 2016, pp. 78-92 Maria Helena Werneck and Maria João Brilhante Art and Trade in a Postcolonial Context: In Search of the Theatre Routes Linking Brazil and Portugal (1850 – 1930) Abstract Between 1850 and 1930, the transatlantic voyages between Portugal and Brazil made by Portuguese and Brazilian theatre companies reflected the post-colonial cultural relations between the two countries. The theatrical activity produced in Portugal provided parameters for the organization of companies and quite durable acting models in Brazil, where many theatres relied on foreign companies' repertoires. However, especially after the republic was proclaimed in 1889, such transatlantic theatre was perceived in Brazil as representing the old aesthetics questioned by the European avant-garde movements of the early twentieth century. Two case studies illustrate different artistic and economic dynamics of tours, seen as translocal exchanges leading either to tradition or modernization. The former looks at the Portuguese actress Adelina Abranches, who was concerned about the financial health of her touring company, whereas the latter focuses on the Brazilian actress Cinira Polônio, who wished to be in tune with the new times of theatrical activity in Europe. Authors Maria Helena Werneck is Full Professor at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, where she teaches Theatre History, Brazilian Theatre and Literature in undergraduate and post- graduate courses. From 2008 to 2010, she was coordinator of a binational research project including universities in Brazil (UNIRIO and USP) and in Portugal (University of Lisbon). She published a book about Machado de Assis' biographies (The man in print, EdUERJ, 2008), and some works about Brazilian history on stage, during the decades of 1930, 1940 and 1950 in Rio.

To his social superiors Dorn Oba was half-crazy; to Rio's slaves, freedmen and free men of colour, he was revered as a royal prince, the Prince of the People.
