Similar to the Qi (pronounced ‘Chi’) standard of wireless charging, they intend to transmit electrical energy through the air. The strength of the electrical fields used would be too low to present any hazard to people, pets and other electronic devices – a fact that has been confirmed in an approval issued by the US Federal Communi- cations Commission. Having said that, they should be sufficient to charge a smart- phone wearing a special ‘Forever Sleeve’ charging case from up to three meters away. To fully charge a device, COTA requires three-to-four-times as long as a standard charging cable. According to the manufacturer, this is not so much of an issue, as the device is permanently being charged when in the 1 vicinity of the COTA transmitter. The system is to be market-ready by 2020. Videoconferencing Camera with Virtual Cameraman 3 Featuring facial recognition and artificial intelligence, the Remo chat camera ‘Obsbot Tail’ is intending to make the camera operator redundant. The 12-megapixel video camera automatically follows the movements of the person being recorded, keeping them in frame throughout. The system was conceived for videoconferencing and vloggers that record their video content as one-man shows. During its demonstration at the CES expo in Las Vegas, it was able to effectively and stably track a protagonist wildly dancing around the stage, while ignoring other dancers that hadn’t been registered with the AI. The device is due to hit the shelves in the second quarter of 2019.
