Presents Saturday 11 July 2015 Ewell Castle School Glyn House Grounds 10.30 – 4pm Adults £2.50 on the Gate - Under 16s Free Don’t forget to also visit Ewell High Street for ‘Dancing in the Street’ Supported by Ewell Village Traders 2 Welcome to Ewell Village Fair! Dear Fairgoer, Welcome to the 2015 Ewell Village Fair! Like the James Bond franchise, our Fair is a tried and tested formula. And, also like every new James Bond film, we try to make each fair a bit different and more spectacular than the last! A new James Bond sometimes takes up the lead role in the cinema: each year a new Mayor comes to open our Fair and judge the competitions. If you like James Bond, you know the next film is going to be exciting and entertaining: and I hope we offer exactly the same promise with Ewell Village Fair. That's why, for so many of us, the Fair is one of the highlights of Ewell's calendar. We are again very grateful to Ewell Castle School for allowing us to use the grounds of Glyn House where the main stalls and events take place. There are also things going on in church, in the parish room, and in the church hall, as detailed elsewhere in this programme. Following the success of the Ewell Village Traders' involvement last year, there are also extra activities on the High Street and in many local shops. The theme on the High Street is "Dancing in the Street", running approximately the same times as the Fair. Together, all these activities mean a great day out for our whole community. The money we raise today helps us to maintain our beautiful church and churchyard and supports everything St Mary's does in Ewell. If you are interested in finding out more about what else goes on at St Mary's, take a look at our website www.stmarysewell.com or come into church today -- and please do speak to me during the day to let me know what you think. It is a great privilege for St Mary's to organize the Village Fair, and I'd like to offer my thanks to all those involved in the organizing committee, in the preparations, and on the day. As always, we've tried to put together a full day of fun and entertainment, in which there will be plenty for all ages to see and do. We do appreciate all feedback, good and bad, to help us make the Fair even better in the future. I look forward to seeing you around the fair during the day! Russell Dewhurst Vicar of Ewell A St John Ambulance Team will be in attendance during the fair. If you need assistance you will find them at the front of Glyn House (see map on p8) 3 EWELL HORTICULTURAL 71 High Street ASSOCIATION Ewell Village Come & enjoy our FLOWER SHOWS Traditional English 2.30pm on Saturdays 5th September Pub & 24th October Blenheim High School Real Ales Longmead Road, Ewell Floral exhibits, plants for sale Great Lunches & tea with homemade cakes Free Admission A & E Longhurst Funeral Directors and Monumental Masons Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Our services also include: - Pre-paid Funeral Plans - Memorial masonry - Floral tributes We are proud to support the Ewell Village Fete. 21 Kingston Road, Ewell KT17 2DX 020 8393 1077 www.longhurstfuneraldirectors.co.uk 4 5 THE OLD HOUSE EPSOM ROAD, EWELL VILLAGE Also at 82 York Road, Cheam & 82 Mulgrave Road, Sutton Comfortable sheltered accommodation for ten active older people in own en suite rooms with daily home cooking Enquiries to 020 8394 0050 or [email protected] www.nonsuchabbeyfield.org I&PS21620R & H2118 An exempt Charity 6 THE CHURCH Open 11.00-15.00 St. Mary's is a busy Parish Church in the heart of Ewell Village with Sunday and weekday services, baptisms, weddings and funerals. Our activities range from toddler groups to bell-ringing, coffee mornings to organ recitals, children's fun days to courses about the Christian faith and much more besides. We support local and international charities including the local Foodbank. The current church building was completed in 1848 though many of the things in the church, such as the font and screen are much older. The church will be open from 11.00 - 15.00 on the day of the fair, with information and displays giving more information about some of the things that happen here. In the parish room at the back of the church, Epsom Moviemakers will be showing films, including ones about the history and life of St Mary's, also from 11.00 - 15.00. Be sure to pop in and find out more about the Moviemakers and more about our village church. FEEDBACK! Please help us make next year’s event even better by giving us your feedback. You can do this by: Ÿ email to [email protected] or click on the link at the St Mary’s website www.stmarysewell.com or Ÿ picking up a form at the exit or on some of the stalls. This can either be completed and handed in at the fair (there is a box for completed forms in church) or returned later to the Parish Office (church side door). All feedback containing contact details will be entered into a prize draw where you could win £10 and must be received by 25 July 2015 as the draw will take place the following week. Your contact details will not be used for any other purpose and will not be retained after the draw. Thank you. THANK YOU! We could not run the Fair without the support of many people. Thank you to all of them. We are grateful to the Worshipful the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Christopher Frost, for opening the fair, and to the Rt Hon Chris Grayling, MP for Epsom and Ewell, for drawing the Grand Draw. We would like to make special mention of Ewell Castle School for allowing us the use of Glyn House grounds, St John Ambulance (situated at the front of Glyn House) and the District Scout Service Team, the Guides and Brownies and Angus Tents for their help and assistance, 323 Squadron Air Cadets, 135 Geographic Squadron Army Reserve, and the Fire Brigade for their support. 7 Plan of Fair TOILETS: the entrance to the toilets can be found at the front of Glyn House. There is a toilet for the disabled in the church hall. This is our intended layout. Events beyond our control may mean we have to make adjustments on the day. 8 Time Programme of Events Stalls Church Arena1 Arena2 General 10.00 Ewell St Mary's Morris Men dance in Ewell High St ☻ 10.20 The Mayor joins the Morris men to process through the ☻ Village with a stop at the Lock Up (junction of Church St. & High St.) for the 'Refreshing the Wastrel' competition 10.30 Gates Open. ☻ Church Bells ring Beer tent opens.
