Emergency at Yemin Orde Youth Village. Worst Fire in Israel’s history. Evacuation and Destruction.

Just when the students of Yemin Orde Youth Village, situated close to Haifa, prepared to celebrate the second night of Chanukah, the worst fire in Israel’s history struck and the whole Village was evacuated on an emergency basis.

Approximately 40% of the buildings were damaged or destroyed together with the water and energy supply. For the Yemin Orde students to see their homes, their place of refuge, go up in flames is devastating.

More than 500 students will need to be re-located having lost their personal belongings and clothing. Many of the staff homes and administrative buildings have been lost. Some of the youngsters who have already survived tragedy and trauma have had to, again, experience deep shock. A group of orphans from the FSU arrived at the Village with only the clothes they were wearing, they have now lost their home and once again are displaying signs of panic and despair.

No exact figure can be given to repair and rebuild the physical and emotional damage of such an event. In the first week alone £650,000 is needed and an estimated £6.5 million over the next few months .A few examples of where your money will go: Initial clean-up, therapists, social workers, rebuild electric and computer infrastructure, staff homes, supplies for homeless families – food, clothing, bedding, computers, appliances, furniture and books.
