PARIS HÔTEL PLAZA ATHÉNÉE Two day itinerary: Nearby Well deserving of its moniker, The City of Light is as beautiful by day as it is when illuminated at night. This is a city where hours can easily be spent wandering amongst the cobbled streets, taking in the heady mix of art, music, food and culture. No matter what you seek, with this two-day itinerary you’ll never be far from the best attractions Paris has to offer. Day One Start the day with a jog or a walk around the Parc du Champ-de-Mars, 15 minutes’ walk to the Quai Branly end. PARC DU CHAMP-DE-MARS Quai Branly – Place Joffre, 75007 Paris A swathe of green in the heart of the city, the Champ-de-Mars is a sprawling, rectangular park stretching from the Eiffel Tower at its northern edge to the École Militaire at its southern. A jog through the greenery offers up uniquely Parisian views (and an opportunity to burn off those Parisian pastries, too). Then, head back to the hotel to freshen up, before taking a 10-minute walk to the Marché Président Wilson. MARCHÉ PRÉSIDENT WILSON Avenue du Président Wilson, 75016 Paris Held every Wednesday and Saturday, this sprawling open-air food market is one of the largest in Paris, and the fare on offer is as fresh as it is eclectic. Fresh lobster from Brittany, roses, artisan cheeses and escargots – amongst a number of other treats – all vie for the attention of local shoppers. From the market, Le Petit Palais is 20 minutes away on foot or five minutes by taxi. LE PETIT PALAIS T: 01 53 43 40 00 | Avenue Winston Churchill, 75008 Paris Constructed in 1900 to coincide with the Exposition Universelle (World Fair), the decadent Petit Palais is today one of the city’s most intriguing museums. Set across four wings, the fine art museum offers decorative murals, sculptures, and works from Monet and Toulouse-Lautrec. Avenue Montaigne is then a 10-minute walk from the museum. The Dorchester, London | 45 Park Lane, London | Coworth Park, Ascot | Le Meurice, Paris | Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris Hotel Principe di Savoia, Milan | Hotel Eden, Rome | The Beverly Hills Hotel, Beverly Hills | Hotel Bel-Air, Los Angeles | Dubai (opening 2020) AVENUE MONTAIGNE 75008 Paris The luxurious Avenue Montaigne is ideal for an afternoon of browsing, thanks to its many high- fashion jewellery and designer boutiques. Stop for lunch and a coffee at one of the area’s picturesque cafes and indulge in some people watching before continuing with your shopping – window or otherwise. Then continue your walk along the Avenue Montaigne to get to Dior. DIOR, MONTAIGNE T: 01 45 63 12 51 | 30-32 Avenue Montaigne, 75008 Paris The Christian Dior flagship store on Avenue Montaigne is a classically elegant affair. The first boutique opened by the French design icon, the beautiful townhouse stocks the latest looks from Dior. A visit here is as much a lesson in couture history as it is a luxury retail experience. From Christian Dior, the hotel is two minutes’ walk away. Day two Start the day at Barthélémy, a 15-minute drive from the hotel. BARTHÉLÉMY T: 01 42 22 82 24 | 51 Rue de Grenelle, 75007 Paris Nicole Barthélémy’s old-fashioned luxury fromagerie features marble cupboards, pretty tiled floors and shelves crammed with every kind of cheese imaginable. A favourite with the locals (and rumoured to supply cheese boards to the French president), this tiny Saint-Germain boutique specialises in a superb Fontainebleu, made fresh instore each day. The staff will happily vacuum- pack any purchases for easy transport home. Then, take a taxi for the 15-minute journey to Avenue Matignon. AVENUE MATIGNON 75008 Paris Nestled in the eighth arrondissement, elegant Avenue Matignon plays host to some of the city’s most venerable art galleries, cultural institutes and antique shops. Auction house Christie’s Paris, and appointment-only contemporary art gallery Matignon Jany Jansem, are two addresses that can be found here, making this most elegant of thoroughfares a treat for both browsers and buyers. Next, take a 10-minute walk to the Musée Jacquemart-André. The Dorchester, London | 45 Park Lane, London | Coworth Park, Ascot | Le Meurice, Paris | Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris Hotel Principe di Savoia, Milan | Hotel Eden, Rome | The Beverly Hills Hotel, Beverly Hills | Hotel Bel-Air, Los Angeles | Dubai (opening 2020) MUSÉE JACQUEMART-ANDRÉ T: 01 45 62 11 59 | 158 Boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris This 19th century mansion is now an art museum – housing its former inhabitants’ impressive art collection – and has been open to the public since 1913. An afternoon spent here will afford visitors a glimpse into the gilded lives of art collectors and society figures, Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart – not to mention the building’s opulent interior. Then, walk for 10 minutes to Ladurée on the Champs Elysées. LADURÉE T: 01 40 75 08 75 | 75 Avenue des Champs Elysées, 75008 Paris Don’t be deterred by the ever-present queues outside this French pastry institution; they are fast-moving and provide the opportunity to gaze upon the rows of colourful confections. Patrons flock here for the famous macarons, which come in a range of flavours (think rose, pistachio, and coffee), and look as lovely as they taste. The final stop of the day is the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, 10 minutes’ walk from Ladurée.
