EP I: From the Source to the Gorge UNIVERSUM EP II: From the Forest to the Plains EP III: From the Plains to the Ocean

It begins as the world’s highest major river. It thun- ders through the planet’s biggest gorge and lows past Asia’s hotspots of biodiversity, teeming with wildlife. United with the Ganges, it forms the world’s greatest river delta. As it passes through each of the Earth’s climate zones the Sky River becomes a motor for the monsoon that determines a third of the world’s weather, dominating the lives of more than a billion people.

This groundbreaking documentary explores the en- tire length of the river whose Hindu name - Brahma- putra - means “Son of Creation”.

Episode One takes us from the glaciers, between 8,000-metre peaks, across Tibet’s high, dry and harsh semi-desert, where Chiru antelope race across the plateau at 100kph in the thin air, warmed by the inest of coats that make theirs the world’s most valuable leece. Then we descend 3,000 me- ters through the world’s deepest, longest (240km) and still barely explored Tsangpo Gorge.

Episode Two continues through the Gorge with its red pandas and isolated human settlements, emerging into India’s temperate forests where Gee’s golden langurs and macaques roam, and clouded leopards hunt. The river skirts round the Himalayas into Assam’s luxuriant green monsoon- and tea country, with its iconic wildlife: one-horned Picture: © ORF Universum / pre tv rhinos, elephants, black-tailed pythons – and the last wild pygmy hogs.

Whales and Volcanoes: when volcanoes burst from the ocean, they attract unique life forms to their jungle valleys and black sandy beaches - and create deep sea chasms that pods of sperm whales enjoy so much, they never leave. Schladming in Austria is not the best known of the country’s ski regions but it’s one of the inest – because it keeps a low proile and makes sure the season doesn’t dominate the landscape. Why did nobody prevent the events of September 11, 2001? Is the French secret service responsible for the at- tack on Charlie Hebdo? Was the irst moon landing a fake? Was Austria’s far-right party leader Jörg Haider killed by a communist group led by the Mos- sad? Who brings wars, conlicts, disasters and eco- nomic crises into the world? Quite simply: “YOU!

And who are you”? The Illuminati. The freemasons. CONSPIRACY The pharmaceutical cartel. The Jews. Secret servic- es. In summary, conspirators who are in control of all the centers of power, such as politics and the media, are pulling the strings behind the scenes. They want nothing less than the global dominance of the world. In the social media age such conspiracy theories are experiencing a digital renaissance. The abundance of contradictory and partly totally ictitious infor- mation that has been brought to us from a number of sources has created a jungle of information that will deprive us of any orientation. How and what and whom can we still believe? Do we need clear enemy images and simple narra- tives to be able to endure this immensely complex world at all? Who provides what information? And who beneits from our fear of the uncertainty? “World Domination” consisting of a TV documenta- ry and an interactive web application, is devoted to all these questions. The aim of this documentary is to make the foun- dation and emergence of conspiracy theories, their application, as well as their beneit and their benei- ciaries recognizable and thus easier to understand.

94 Treasure Hunt: BirdFish – Searching for Fenn’s Legacy

Forrest Fenn is 83 years of age and has lived a lifetime of adventures. He was a ighter pilot in Vietnam, he has searched for (and found) treas- ures across the globe, he owns a gallery in Santa Fe (New Mexico) and he is rich. Very rich. When he was diagnosed with cancer 20 years ago, he decided to wake the adventurous spirit in people

and to memorialize himself through this intiative. FACTUAL He began to ill an old bronze chest with treasures: gold nuggets, golden coins, animal igurines from the same time as Christopher Columbus, antique japanese ornaments made of jade, gemstones. The total weight was of around 20 kilograms. For about four years, he hid this chest in the Rocky Mountains. Somewhere north of Santa Fe. He then published a poem giving away nine clues as to where it was hid- den. If interpreted correctly, the poem leads you to the treasure. He gave ive additional clues in various interviews. Noone has found it yet. Or noone could prove having found it. And so it lies somewhere out there, and who else but two austrian children should ind it? Welcome to the Treasure Hunt!

98 About the Magic of Christmas Cakes in Europe

When Christmas-time comes along, a lot of biscuits are baked and many cakes sweeten the Advent sea-

son and the holidays. The Linzer Tart originates from LEISURE & LIFESTYLE the Upper Austrian capital, Linz, and is one of the oldest recipes in the world, for it could be tracked down to 1653. There are seasonal baked goods across Europe, but they could not be any more dif- ferent. Whereas in Germany, the Stollen is a heavy, rich, slightly exotic bread illed with candied fruits, the French wouldn’t celebrate Christmas without the Bûche de Noël. This chocolate sponge roll, illed with chocolate cream is supposed to represent a log but it mainly is a visual artwork. In Verona, the world-renowned Pandoro is made through days of working on the dough. The wafer tart, which brings back many childhood memories, is the regional speciality of the Czech Karlovy Vary.
