ECC Announces 2019-20 Commissioner's Honor Roll Recipients EAST COAST CONFERENCE For Immediate Release Media Relations Thursday, September 10, 2020 Twitter: @ECCSports Casey Rafferty Facebook: /eccsports [email protected] www.eccsports.org YouTube: /EastCoastConference Instagram: @ECCSports ECC Announces 2019-20 Commissioner's Honor Roll Recipients West Babylon, N.Y. ‐ On Thursday afternoon, East Coast Conference Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff, announced the list of student‐athletes that have been named to the ECC Commissionerʹs Honor Roll for the 2019‐2020 academic year. Over 1,300 student‐athletes from the conferenceʹs nine member schools and 17 associate member schools were honored. ʺWe are happy to celebrate the outstanding academic accomplishments of our student‐athletes,ʺ said Dranoff. ʺAs we know, this past year was not an easy one ‐ athletically, academically or emotionally ‐ for any of the team members we are honoring. However, they all worked to be successful and we are extremely proud of their hard work and dedication.ʺ Molloy led the way with the most honorees, coming in at 203. The Lions were the only school to top 200 student‐athletes on the list. St. Thomas Aquinas was the runner‐up with 158, while Mercy was close behind with 154. In addition, Bridgeport, Daemen, New York Tech, and Roberts Wesleyan each had over 100 student‐athletes make the list. The Commissioner’s Honor Roll is awarded to student‐athletes who receive a 3.25 or better cumulative grade point average. This annual recognition, in addition to Scholar‐Athlete awards, helps to uphold the East Coast Conference’s mission of promoting the total person and the ability to excel not only in the athletic arena but also in the classroom. The full list of honorees can be found below. *********************************** About the ECC Founded as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1989 and rechristened the East Coast Conference in July 2006, the ECC was formed to enhance intercollegiate athletic competition among member institutions and to assist them in integrating athletics into their academic program in a fiscally sound way. The ECC is committed to the highest standards of scholarship, sportsmanship, teamwork, and citizenship. Its mission is to promote the total person concept in its student‐athletes, which stresses the abilities to excel in academic achievement, athletic competition, and positive character traits. East Coast Conference members include: University of Bridgeport (Bridgeport, Conn.); University of the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.); Daemen College (Amherst, N.Y.); DʹYouville College (Buffalo, N.Y.); Mercy College (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.); Molloy College (Rockville Centre, N.Y.); Queens College (Flushing, N.Y.); Roberts Wesleyan College (Rochester, N.Y.); College of Staten Island (Staten Island, N.Y.) and St. Thomas Aquinas College (Sparkill, N.Y.). NYITʹs Alessia Rossetti (Minusio, Switzerland) has also been named the Preseason Player of the Year. NYIT took all eight first place votes in the poll after the 2014‐15 season ended with the Bears celebrating their third straight ECC title. NYIT was unblemished in ECC play with a perfect 8‐0 mark during the regular season and finished with an overall record of 20‐5 to finish the year ranked No. 14 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II national poll. The Bearsʹ continued their recent NCAA Division II Tournament success as well, advancing to the Round of 16 for the third straight season. NYIT has five student‐athletes retuning from the 2014‐15 squad, including the ECC Preseason Player of the Year, Alessia Rossetti. Rossetti was an ECC All‐Conference First Team selection a year ago after posting a 26‐3 singles record and a 24‐4 mark in doubles play. She was unbeatable in ECC action, going 7‐0 in singles and 7‐0 in doubles play. Rossetti was recognized nationally for her play, finishing the season as the No. 28 singles player in the ITA Division II rankings.

The Firebirds will commence conference play this fall. “We are very excited to have University of District of Columbia join the East Coast Conference as associate members in menʹs and womenʹs tennis,” ECC Commissioner Bob Dranoff said. “This addition helps strengthen these sports in our conference, expand our presence into a new area and assist UDC with the opportunity to gain conference affiliation and post season play. We look forward to working with Pat Thomas and the UDC tennis teams.” East Coast Conference institutions have been a presence on the regional and national landscape in tennis. Last year three men’s tennis teams and two women’s tennis teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament. “The mission of the East Coast Conference is consistent with the mission of the University of the District of Columbia,” commented Athletic Director, Patricia Ann Thomas. “The East Coast Conference provides a competitive opportunity among outstanding academic institutions.
