Date: 6 December 2010 Bertolini and Bartels Clinch with the MC12 the FIA
Date: 6 December 2010 Bertolini and Bartels clinch with the MC12 the FIA GT1 World Title Modena, December 6 2010. Fifth Drivers’ title and sixth Team’s title in six seasons for the Maserati MC12 in the international FIA GT Championship - World Championship from this year. Leading actors in Maserati’s 2010 success are once again (the fourth time) the Bertolini- Bartels crew and the German Vitaphone Racing Team: sixth title in six years. Maserati’s success story in the FIA GT Championship started in late 2004 when the MC12 competed in four races, outside of the ranking. Success came early as Maserati picked up its first victory in the second race it entered with Bertolini-Salo. From the following season Maserati joined forces with the Vitaphone Racing Team, flanked in 2005 by JMB and in 2007 by PlayTeam. From 2005 to date, Maserati has struck with the MC12 both its targets, the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles, on every occasion with the single exception of the first time around, when Bertolini- Wendlinger, fielded by the JMB team and heading up the ranking until then, saw the championship victory slip through their fingers in the last race due to a transmission problem which was unprecedented on the car and has since failed to reoccur. Reliability and competitiveness are the two key factors in Maserati’s prolonged series of successes. If the MC12 has been able to stay on top for many years, despite significant changes in the technical regulations, this is due to the fact that the car comes without innate flaws, with a highly rigid carbon fibre monocoque chassis, excellent weight distribution between front and rear, equally excellent aerodynamic balance and a very low centre of gravity. -

ASMMR Newsletter Vol 2 Issue 4
Volume 2, Issue 4 May 2010 The Australasian Society for Motorsports Medicine and Rescue Contents Race control Clinical review Recent race results Worldwide motorsport update Caught by the cameras Race control Welcome to the May edition of the ASMMR newsletter. The various racing categories are moving on a pace and there is plenty to talk about in the world of motorsport medicine and rescue. This issue takes a look at some track safety devices; namely the run-off areas and gravel traps – the pros, the cons and the downright scary. There is a review of recent race events and a few highlights from other aspects of motorsporting news. If you have ever wanted to know what a tank slapper, a lambda reading or reactive suspension was, then skip to the Wikipedia motorsports terminology link. Good luck. Matthew Mac Partlin Technical review Track safety devices – Run-offs and gravel traps Competitors and race vehicles can be fully prepared with safety equipment, but at some point or other a vehicle will unintentionally veer off the track. Sometimes the driver will be able to gather it up and rejoin the race, if there is sufficient space to do so. However, there is often a conflict between race track safety, spectator friendliness and geography. The safest track would probably be a straight road, with a wide run-off to either side and at either end and have no more Copyright Matthew Mac Partlin, 2010 Page 1 of 9 than a couple of cars competing on it at any one time. But it wouldn’t be terribly interesting to compete in or to watch. -
5 December 2006 World Preview of the Maserati MC12 Versione Corse
Date: 5 December 2006 World Preview of the Maserati MC12 Versione Corse Making its début at the Bologna Motor Show is the Maserati MC12 Versione Corse, a car designed to offer a highly select clientele the chance to try their hand at driving one of the most extreme supercars now available on the market. The MC12 Versione Corse is based on the MC12 GT1 which won the FIA GT1 Manufacturers' Championship in 2005, the Team Championship in 2005 and 2006, the Drivers' Championship in 2006, and two consecutive editions of the Spa 24 Hours, in 2005 and 2006. The main differences between the two vehicles are: the 755 horsepower (MC12 Versione Corse) compared to the 600 horsepower (MC12 GT1), electro-hydraulic Cambiocorsa in the Versione Corse compared to the manual gear change in the GT1, the passenger seat in addition to the driver's seat fitted to the Versione Corse. The MC12 Versione Corse is available in the official "Blue Victory" color, but it can be customized on request with a number of optionals, including colors and livery, manually adjustable shock absorbers and data acquisition. The price (identical for all markets) is ¿1,000,000 plus taxes. It is marketed worldwide starting from December 2006. FIA GT CHAMPIONS Andrea Bertolini, behind the wheel of the Vitaphone Team's Maserati MC12, came through as FIA GT Champion 2006 at the end of a very successful season in which the MC12 also achieved its second consecutive win at the Spa 24 Hours. Maserati won two FIA GT 2006 titles: the one for drivers, won by Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels one race early; and the team championship, which Team Vitaphone took home for the second year running, two races before the end of the season. -
First Test of the Audi R8 Against Opposition Roll Outs at Nürburgring
27 April 1999 First test of the Audi R8 against opposition Next Sunday’s pre-qualifying for the Le Mans 24 Hours is the first major test for the Audi R8 against major opposition. Six weeks before the race, Audi Sport aims to qualify the four car line-up for the traditional race at La Sarthe in June. „The pre-qualifying is the first opportunity to test the car on the Le Mans track“, explains Audi‘s Head of Sport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. „This is extremely meaningful for us since we are newcomers.“ Roll outs at Nürburgring and Silverstone Each car has a time limit of just six hours to pre-qualify on Sunday hence the preparations are meticulous. Dr Ullrich: „The cars have been stripped down and re-built completely after the recent tests.“ In order to be prepared perfectly, both teams will do a roll out to check every part before they go to Le Mans. Audi Sport Team Joest will shake down the two open- topped R8Rs at the Nürburgring while Audi Sport UK will test the enclosed R8C at Silverstone. Line-ups will be defined on Saturday night The teams will qualify on Sunday in two separate groups. Only after the final scrutineering on Saturday night will organisers define which cars will start on Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon. Both Audi Teams will attempt to pre-qualify on the 2 May. „Our goal is to get familiar with the track in the best possible way“, explains Dr Ullrich. During pre-qualifying, 10 of the 12 Audi drivers will be present. -
