Once again we have had a successful year , the highlight of course being our 60th celebration rally in May at Stanhope Showground. With the backing of a superb committee & members volunteering along with over 120 caravans attending it proved to be a great success. This year we have a new Treasurer taking over from Olga and I am sure Linda will settle in very quickly. I would like to wish Olga and her family all the best for the future and thank her for all the good work she has done for the Centre over the last four years. Colin Watkins has also retired from committee and I thank him too for his hard work and commitment to the Centre. Our new committee for 2020 consists of four new members and I wish them well along with existing members who are continuing. Thanks must go to Dave Wilson our Rally Secretary for a very varied rally programme for 2020 including four new venues for which I hope you will support. Our Bank Holiday Rallies look exciting again and we are planning to have two LIVE BANDS perform at the EASTER RALLY so get booked up early. We have two holiday rally's this year UPPER LARGO IN SCOTLAND and FARMER PARRS near BLACKPOOL. The newly formed GOLF COMPETITION will go ahead again this year so contact myself if you wish to take part. When booking rallies please remember to make out your cheques to "CARAVAN and MOTORHOME CLUB DURHAM CENTRE" and write on the reverse which rally it is for. Also when doing a BANK TRANSFER reference the rally too. At this year's Chairman's Rally at SEABURN we are planning to organise a sponsored walk along the seafront for our chosen charity so please ask for sponsor forms if you wish to take part. I would like to thank all advertisers for their support and landowners for allowing us to use their land for us to enjoy our favourite pastime along with Colin Smith for putting this handbook together. Please continue to support your centre & remember to re-register with Durham Centre when renewing your Caravan & Motorhome Club Membership. Angela & Myself look forward to seeing you all on the rally field again this year, our kettle will always be on, and enjoy your rallying in 2020. • Edition 10: 20Th September 2013
Edition 10: 20th September 2013 Rugby World Cup 2015 Lead Up and Legacy Activity The RFU launched the seven strands of its national Lead up and Legacy plan on October 31st 2012. The aim of this is to set out an overall framework against which national resource will be invested in the lead up to RWC 2015 with the aim of increasing interest and participation in the game. Whilst many Clubs, CBs, Schools, Colleges, Universities and other bodies are working hard to develop local projects to meet identified local need these seven strands are areas in which we will invest national resource to create change in Rugby communities across the country. It is hoped that those delivery bodies that have not yet identified their focus will focus in on these areas and take action to improve provision and opportunities against these themes. Six Regional Activation and Legacy Groups are now up and running and are working to add value to the seven strands and to engage partners from outside of the immediate rugby community in supporting the efforts of those within it. Each group is populated by representatives from CBs and from the wider community. Attached as an appendix to this CB update is a brief overview of progress against the seven strands along with listings of clubs/projects etc involved to date – this will be updated for each issue. In addition to the work against the seven strands strong working relationships have been established with England Rugby 2015, the Organising Body for the tournament itself, and an update on relevant areas are also included in the appendix.

  • Northeast England – a History of Flash Flooding
Northeast England – A history of flash flooding Introduction The main outcome of this review is a description of the extent of flooding during the major flash floods that have occurred over the period from the mid seventeenth century mainly from intense rainfall (many major storms with high totals but prolonged rainfall or thaw of melting snow have been omitted). This is presented as a flood chronicle with a summary description of each event. Sources of Information Descriptive information is contained in newspaper reports, diaries and further back in time, from Quarter Sessions bridge accounts and ecclesiastical records. The initial source for this study has been from Land of Singing Waters –Rivers and Great floods of Northumbria by the author of this chronology. This is supplemented by material from a card index set up during the research for Land of Singing Waters but which was not used in the book. The information in this book has in turn been taken from a variety of sources including newspaper accounts. A further search through newspaper records has been carried out using the British Newspaper Archive. This is a searchable archive with respect to key words where all occurrences of these words can be viewed. The search can be restricted by newspaper, by county, by region or for the whole of the UK. The search can also be restricted by decade, year and month. The full newspaper archive for northeast England has been searched year by year for occurrences of the words ‘flood’ and ‘thunder’. It was considered that occurrences of these words would identify any floods which might result from heavy rainfall.

  • Brochure 13057
CHAIRLADY’S MESSAGE Welcome to our 2018 rally brochure. This is my second year as Chairlady and now that I have got my first year ‘under my belt’ I think we may enjoy this year even more. Simon and I would like to thank you all for the support you have given us throughout our first year. The centre held 35 rallies in 2017 and there was a mixture of venues and activities to choose from. I would like to thank all the Marshals for giving their time in organising and running these rallies for our enjoyment. Rallying is a great social encounter for everyone, young, old and the whole family and South Yorkshire Centre keeps some fine traditions including our Centre Queen and our Carnival Floats of which we are truly proud. The Centre Queen is crowned at our May Day rally and we have 3 carnival rallies at which we enter a Queens float and a South Yorkshire Centre float which in 2018 is themed around ‘Back to School’. So, get those school uniforms on and join in. You will see in this brochure that once again there is a wide variety of rallies to offer. If you are new and aren’t quite sure if rallying is for you give the Rally Marshal or a Committee member a call. I am sure they will answer all your questions and put you at ease. I would like to thank the land owners, site managers and farmers who allow us to use their land and facilities. Please show consideration for their property by noting ‘out of bounds’ areas and follow the centre rally rules with regards to the Red Flag should it be raised.
