Welcome to our 2019 rally brochure This is my third year as Chairlady and I think I have got the role reasonably in hand now. Simon and I would like to thank you all for the support you have given us throughout the past year and for the year to come. In 2018 we had 34 rallies which included 3 new rallies, 2 new Marshals plus 4 holiday rallies. There was certainly a lot to choose from and our thanks go to all those Marshals and helpers who helped make those rallies happen and to the land owners for allowing us to use their land. If you have never tried a rally and think you could not survive without electric, you would be surprised how easy and cost efficient it is to have such a fun filled weekend. Check out our website rally pics to see what happens – www.southyorkshicecentre.co.uk Then contact us to discuss any questions you may have. In 2019 we have again new rallies plus new Marshals and some of the traditional rallies to choose from. We will be attending the carnivals again this year and the theme for our float is ‘Scare Fest’ so get out those scary Halloween outfits and be involved with the floats. All of you can join in the fun. Before you book your 2019 rallies please be mindful to consider if you will actually attend the rally. Although, the rally may eventually get full and the Marshals may start a waiting list, when people cancel close to the date often those on the waiting list have already made alternative arrangements. It is disappointing to the Marshals when people make a late cancellation. I would like to thank our Rally Secretary, Paula Oxby for putting together this brochure and for encouraging our advertisers. Please mention their advert in our brochure if you contact them as it encourages them to continue advertising with us. Can I ask that you share your photos on our website and not just on our Facebook page? Email them to our webmaster on [email protected] Our web page is the first port of call for new members and I would like to show them the fun we have. I would like to thank the Adult Committee and the Youth Committee for the hard work they did over the last year and in advance for the year ahead. They all work hard and help to make our centre the success we are. May I also urge you to be mindful of your speed on the rally field. Keep our children safe by keeping to the 5mph (walking pace). Finally, Simon and I wish you a safe tow at all times and we look forward to enjoying your company on the rally field soon. Best Wishes Janet Elshaw

15 WHY NOT TRY A RALLY?

WHAT IS A RALLY A rally is a gathering of Caravan and Motorhome Club members, who enjoy the odd weekend away, with fun and fellowship thrown in for good measure. THE RALLY OFFICER Your Rally Officer isn’t an official like a Traffic Warden, but a friendly face to meet you when you arrive and has arranged the weekend for you. WHAT TO DO After you have booked your rally and the weekend arrives, just follow the directions in the rally book. As you approach the rally field you will see small directional signs with SYC on them to help you find your entrance. On arrival you will find the Rally Marshal waiting for you at the rally office, which is usually the first van you see and has another sign outside so you can find him. Once you have booked in he will hand you an envelope containing the programme for the weekend and show you to the pitch. The field is marked out with ample space between caravans and with a tidy appearance. It is intended that the front offside corner of your caravan is on the marker and your car is parked on the offside. You can usually save a place for a friend, by placing something large (wellie or bucket) on an adjacent marker. You will also be shown where the fresh water tap is and the elsan disposal. If the red flag is flown during the rally, this denotes vehicle movement must be restricted (see rule 23); please consult the Rally Marshal if you wish to move your car. The rally fee (which you pay on arrival, unless otherwise stated) includes your pitch, competitions and activities on the field. Optional extras are admission to the social and suppers all at a modest cost. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES The rally may include a social on the Saturday night which is a family event. Sometimes a dance or fancy dress and in the summer a B.B.Q. Your weekend often includes a competition or games for children and adults alike. All these are entirely optional, but are always good fun. FLAGPOLE You may have heard of strange goings on around the flag, don’t be alarmed, this is also a fun event and is where you and your fellow ralliers gather to hear results of competitions, welcome visitors and new ralliers, announce forthcoming events and rallies and most important, to thank the rally officers. WHAT DO YOU NEED To be a rallier you need all the usual equipment plus a few extras. Your own toilet facilities (which must never be taken near the fresh water tap) and a few blocks of wood for levelling your van on sloping fields. You will also be required to take your dry waste home with you. Why not give it a try? If in doubt give us a ring (any Committee member or Rally Marshal). SITING OF CARAVANS/MOTORHOMES AT RALLIES

Where Rally Marshals have set out site pegs, Site Pegs the caravan/motorhome should be parked with the front offside corner as near to the peg as possible, Awning unless told to do otherwise.

Please Note, all vehicles to face the same direction to ease evacuation in case of emergency” Awning

16 CARNIVAL FLOAT 2019 Each year our Centre enters a children’s float in the carnivals at Bakewell, Barlow and Eyam. It’s a great fun day out and a chance for you and your kids to get together and make friends with others on the float. These rallies tend to book up quickly so please book early. If you can’t make the rally why not come for the day?

Look out too for our Queen and her attendants on their float and give them a wave. 2019 theme: Scarefest

Who gets to go on the float? All children of any age can go on the float. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult but older children will be supervised. All we ask is that you dress in the theme of the float. Adults will be encouraged to dress up and provide walking support for the float.

Who makes the float? All of us! We’ll have a get together at the Valentine Rally asking for ideas to decorate the float and volunteers to help make decorations, then meet up from time to time. If we all do a bit it adds up to a lot!

What happens on carnival day? Its all hands on deck from about 9.30 am to put the float together. Then its back to the van to dress up and assemble on the float when its time to leave. The float then makes its way to the parade area to line up with the other floats for judging. It takes quite a while for all the judging so the children are provided with a drink and crisps but you may wish to send your child with a little picnic to have whilst we are waiting. Then its parade time with lots of smiles and waving!

For more information and how to get involved please contact Jeanette Brasher, our Carnival Co-ordinator. (Her contact details are on page 2.)
