AREA 75 Approved UreUre CorridorCorridor recreationrecreation areaarea Feb 2004 (Ripon(Ripon ToTo NewbyNewby Reach)Reach) Description This is an area of intensive recreational use situated along the eastern edge of Ripon and covering almost 4km² of the Ripon Canal and River Ure corridor. The two water courses run almost parallel to each other in a north-south direction through the area to the point where they meet approximately one mile upstream of Newby Hall. The watercourses are well-wooded providing an intimate and attractive setting for boaters and walkers with dispersed views into the landscape beyond. A strong network of public footpaths provides easy access to the banks of the canal and much of the riverbank and is a valuable resource to the local community. Beyond the watercourses, the flat landscape is more open and management is a mixture of wild looking wetland with outgrown hedges and unkempt vege tation that contrast with the manicured appearance of the marina, sailing club and racecourse. Built form and boundary treatments display a variety of styles and modern materials that lack cohesion giving a somewhat chaotic appearance to this pleasant area. Helmsley Town Football Club
Helmsley Town Football Club I am writing to you today to make an official proposal that I be permitted to have an opportunity to form a new Football Club and run it from Helmsley Sports Club alongside Duncombe Park Football Club sharing all the facilities including the John Atkinson Memorial Playing Field that I understand cannot be leased at the moment and of course we would expect to pay fair and sustainable Members fees for the facilities being provided so as to keep such facilities open and available for use. I understand the other Clubs currently pay around £500 per year. I was at the meeting with Mr James Hare and Mr Richard Levin (Engie) in November 2017 so I am aware there is also a responsibility for the maintenance and up keep of the new field going forward and I understand the need to address such issues reasonably with other interested parties regarding meeting the costs for such maintenance especially cutting and removal of grass cuttings. I had just started my fourth season running Junior training sessions at the sports field on Sunday mornings this year when I was removed from the Club. There is a fundamental need to establish a junior football club at Helmsley not only to provide football to future generations at Helmsley but it gives a base to help keep the senior teams strong which is exactly why the other market towns thrive. It is not by accident these Clubs are where they are. My aim is to restart these sessions immediately and provide the opportunity for junior teams to be established so as to be able to enter a local junior or minor football league who can play on Saturday and Sundays. -

We would like to remind you that all our rooms are no smoking. We kindly request that you vacate your room between the hours of 10:30am and 1:30pm to allow us to clean. If you are unable to do so we will be happy just to top up your tea tray on request. On the day of departure we request that you vacate your room by 10:30am. All vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk and we do not accept any responsibility for the loss or damage of them. Please park to the rear of the building unless you require any assistance. We kindly request that when you return on an evening you are as quiet as possible for the comfort of all our guests. Most of the houses are built of pale stone, topped with roofs of red tiles - a type of architecture more usually found in North Yorkshire. With its riverside developments and air of prosperity, the Wetherby of today is a favoured place to live. The flat, arable landscape, too, is very different to Pennine Yorkshire. Here, on the fringes of the Vale of York, the soil is rich and dark and productive - the fields divided up by fences and hedgerows rather than dry-stone walls. The town has a long history. A brief glance at an Ordnance Survey map reveals that Wetherby grew up around a tight curve in the River Wharfe. Its importance as a river crossing was recognised by the building of a castle, possibly in the 12th century, of which only the foundations remain. The first mention of a bridge was in 1233. A few years later, in 1240, the Knights Templar were granted a royal charter to hold a market in Wetherby. -
