The Centre Committee reserves the right to supply printed books in lieu of an e-mail ver- sion. Where this is applied no charge will be made for the book and no credit notes will be supplied. If no form or payment is received by the specified date an e-mail version will be supplied. Where no e-mail address is available a summary of centre events will be sent via Royal Mail second class post. The events programme will be sent to the e-mail address held with the Caravan Club. It is the member’s responsibility to ensure this is maintained correctly and is a valid e-mail address. Thank you for supporting me last year in my first year of office it is a privilege to be your centre Chairman for a second year. The North Yorkshire Centre has a proud heritage and we should be proud to be members of that, I know I am. You will get 100% commitment and effort from me during my chairmanship as I hope to play a part in adding to the long and successful history of this centre. The 2019/20 season will bring with it some interesting challenges, not least from a financial point of view. A lot of our equipment is getting past its sell by date and needs replacing. We need to replace our container and endeavour to get the best price we can. We have another busy year coming up with venues new and old to whet your appetite. As you know last year we reached the milestone of 3500 rallies, celebrating this achievement with a superbly run rally at Wetherby racecourse, all who attended said they thoroughly enjoyed it and my thanks go to all the team that were involved in staging this celebration. We are always on the lookout for new ralliers to show them what our hobby is all about, and of course potential rally officers to contribute to our program. This year we are running with a smaller committee and no Vice Chairman, however, we have one new committee member in Denise, we wish her well. I hope you will join me in giving them all your continued support and help during this season. We must remember that their time and expertise is given freely, and our hobby would not be possible without their input or indeed the efforts of the rally officer’s, my sincere thanks go to them all. Of course, my thanks go to all you ralliers out there who attend these events, as without you there would be no need for a rally programme. My thanks go to both Merve, our Rally Secretary, who once again has put together the strong rally program you will find in this handbook and Laura who has excellently compiled it for us, it’s a real family affair this year. My best wishes go to Joe and his committee of young caravanner’s, they have worked extremely hard over the last year and I am sure this will continue on this year, please give them your continued support. Last year the second Festival of the North rally, hosted by us, was considered by all to be a great success, so much so that South Lancashire centre are hoping to emulate that success in 2020. This time being held at Easter So everything is set for another excellent year of rallying, lets hope the weather is good to us this year, Suzanne and I hope you have a good rally year, supporting as many rallies as you can and introducing as many new members to our wonderful centre, we look forward to seeing you on a rally field somewhere this year. AREA 75 Approved UreUre CorridorCorridor recreationrecreation areaarea Feb 2004 (Ripon(Ripon ToTo NewbyNewby Reach)Reach) Description This is an area of intensive recreational use situated along the eastern edge of Ripon and covering almost 4km² of the Ripon Canal and River Ure corridor. The two water courses run almost parallel to each other in a north-south direction through the area to the point where they meet approximately one mile upstream of Newby Hall. The watercourses are well-wooded providing an intimate and attractive setting for boaters and walkers with dispersed views into the landscape beyond. A strong network of public footpaths provides easy access to the banks of the canal and much of the riverbank and is a valuable resource to the local community. Beyond the watercourses, the flat landscape is more open and management is a mixture of wild looking wetland with outgrown hedges and unkempt vege­ tation that contrast with the manicured appearance of the marina, sailing club and racecourse. Built form and boundary treatments display a variety of styles and modern materials that lack cohesion giving a somewhat chaotic appearance to this pleasant area.     Helmsley Town Football Club I am writing to you today to make an official proposal that I be permitted to have an opportunity to form a new Football Club and run it from Helmsley Sports Club alongside Duncombe Park Football Club sharing all the facilities including the John Atkinson Memorial Playing Field that I understand cannot be leased at the moment and of course we would expect to pay fair and sustainable Members fees for the facilities being provided so as to keep such facilities open and available for use. I understand the other Clubs currently pay around £500 per year. I was at the meeting with Mr James Hare and Mr Richard Levin (Engie) in November 2017 so I am aware there is also a responsibility for the maintenance and up keep of the new field going forward and I understand the need to address such issues reasonably with other interested parties regarding meeting the costs for such maintenance especially cutting and removal of grass cuttings. I had just started my fourth season running Junior training sessions at the sports field on Sunday mornings this year when I was removed from the Club. There is a fundamental need to establish a junior football club at Helmsley not only to provide football to future generations at Helmsley but it gives a base to help keep the senior teams strong which is exactly why the other market towns thrive. It is not by accident these Clubs are where they are. My aim is to restart these sessions immediately and provide the opportunity for junior teams to be established so as to be able to enter a local junior or minor football league who can play on Saturday and Sundays.

Most of the houses are built of pale stone, topped with roofs of red tiles - a type of architecture more usually found in North Yorkshire. With its riverside developments and air of prosperity, the Wetherby of today is a favoured place to live. The flat, arable landscape, too, is very different to Pennine Yorkshire. Here, on the fringes of the Vale of York, the soil is rich and dark and productive - the fields divided up by fences and hedgerows rather than dry-stone walls. The town has a long history. A brief glance at an Ordnance Survey map reveals that Wetherby grew up around a tight curve in the River Wharfe. Its importance as a river crossing was recognised by the building of a castle, possibly in the 12th century, of which only the foundations remain. The first mention of a bridge was in 1233. A few years later, in 1240, the Knights Templar were granted a royal charter to hold a market in Wetherby.
