• Finalisation of the pilot study for Serbia and Turkey • Finalisation of AAI calculations for Canada, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland • Pilot study on AAI at local level in • Launched the third phase of the AAI project

Pilot study at local level in Germany • Timeframe: December 2015 – April (September) 2016 • Implemented by a research team in TU • Objectives: • analyzing data availability • calculate AAI indicators and AAI as close as possible to the national methodology • Initial analysis coverage: 88 entities; final analysis: 30 entities ≈ 25.1 per cent of German population • Using secondary data, with several surveys per indicator

• T1: Calculation of 2016 AAI, 2018 AAI, and for earlier years • T2: Implementing specific analysis of AAI results, including o possible comparative analysis of AAI results for urban and rural settlements, groups with different socio-economic status, education level etc. o analysis of AAI results over time, including a decomposition analysis establishing the impact of each indicator to the AAI changes o age cohort analysis of AAI results • T3: Calculation of AAI for additional countries • T4: Pilot studies of AAI in selected UNECE countries o at national and subnational levels o guidelines for calculation of AAI at subnational level

• T5: Further fine-tuning of methodology, including o assessing and stabilising the “goalposts” o assessing the impact of population structure on the AAI overall and domain scores o looking into using of the SHARE data o preparing a methodology for and a note on the use of proxies • T6: Two papers on AAI results and trends • T7: Coordinating activities and organising meetings of the Expert group on AAI • T8: Presenting the AAI results

• T9: Holding an international seminar on AAI, including o launching a call for papers on AAI-related topics o awards — monetary and non-monetary — to authors of the best papers o papers will be assessed and selected by an independent evaluation board of researchers. • T10: Organising national or subregional seminars on AAI • T11: Organising a side-event on AAI during the UNECE Ministerial conference on ageing in 2017 • T12: Maintaining a wiki space on AAI and improving AAI visualisation
