WRC Japan Round Bid Committee (c/o SAN’s) will host a test event for 2020 Rally Japan “Central Rally Aichi/Gifu 2019” on 9-10 November. The event not only demonstrates the attractiveness of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), but aims to train members of the organisation and official staff, as well as to undergo an onsite test of the rally course and FIA medical delegate’s inspection. We have confirmed 2 top-class works cars, the Yaris WRC from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC from Hyundai Motorsport, to take part in the event. On top of that, Takamoto Katsuta has been confirmed to be at the wheel of the Yaris WRC. Central Rally Aichi/Gifu 2019 will have a variety of cars on Open Class, Japan Super Rally Series and National Class. We will be offering spectator areas for visitors to see a part of the rally up close. Details on the competition will be released shortly. It is the successor to the 5-door i20 WRC used between 2015 and 2016. The year 2019 is the Korean marque’s 6th season in the WRC, and the nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb has joined the team to claim the first title. The driver to take part in this rally is TBA. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg.

It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years.

    2020 MEDIA GUIDE Rally Sweden February 13 - 16, 2020 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 Rally Sweden February 13 - 16, 2020 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Welcome to Sweden and round two of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship, which we began in fine style with a superb victory on Rallye Monte-Carlo thanks to Thierry and Nicolas. It meant a lot to me personally to win this event as, alongside Sanremo, Monte-Carlo was one of the rallies that first attracted me to the sport. So, to see Thierry and Nicolas on the top step of the podium for Hyundai was a special moment. The Hyundai Motorsport team has grown a lot in the past 12 months. I remember after finishing second in Monte-Carlo last year listing all the things that we needed to work on and the areas where we needed to improve. My people have done a great job filling in those gaps and showing what they are capable of. However, things do not always go according to plan and, of course, we hope that Ott and Martin will have a much better event here in Sweden following their accident in Monte-Carlo. Having celebrated our victory in round one, we move on to the challenge of Rally Sweden, which provides another wintry test. We appreciate the concerted efforts of the organisers and the FIA to make Rally Sweden happen. The conditions are uncharacteristically warm for this time of the year and we acknowledge the challenges that have been faced in preparing for the rally, with safety at the forefront of the decision-making process.

The reigning champions will compete with four regular crews in its seventh season in WRC. Defending drivers’ titleholder Ott Tänak will join Thierry Neuville for a season-long campaign in the multiple rally-winning Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, contesting all scheduled rounds. Dani Sordo and Sébastien Loeb will share a third car throughout the season. A new-look WRC calendar will see Hyundai Motorsport venture to new territories, including rounds in Kenya (July), New Zealand (September) and Japan (November).     2020 MEDIA GUIDE Rally Mexico March 12 - 15, 2020 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 Rally Mexico March 12 - 15, 2020 HYUNDAI’S HELLO On behalf of the entire team, welcome to Mexico and round three of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship, where Hyundai Motorsport will be aiming to make it three podiums from the opening three rounds of the season. Rally Sweden was a difficult event for the team, where unseasonal weather forced the cancellation of half the planned stages. But we highlighted once again that there are situations in which we are not demonstrating the level of performance required. We were never really in the fight in Sweden and always had a defensive approach. But at least we are still jointly leading the Drivers’ championship and we didn’t lose too much ground in the Manufacturers’ standings, so it’s game on. In WRC 2, it was good to see Ole Christian finishing the rally after a tricky start to the season. He pushed very hard to get the best out of everything and to bring home some points. He showed good pace and I am sure he will now build on this competitiveness for the future. We hope that Nikolay will get used to our Hyundai i20 R5 soon and improve. I would also like to say thank you to Jari Huttunen, his co-driver Mikko Lukka and the Kowax 2Brally team for heading home all the RC2 class runners in Sweden. Also, thanks to Andrew Johns from our Customer Racing division for always pushing to make this happen.
