WELCOME 1.1. Introduction Dear friends, For the past year, one thing has undoubtedly dominated the lives of most people in the world: the COVID-19 pandemic. An unprecedented challenge for the world, for the Rally community it began by cutting short the 2020 edition of WRC Rally Guanajuato México, leaving us with a nagging sense of dissatisfaction. Pandemic-related problems also meant we could not be on the 2021 WRC calendar, which only deepened our determination to return stronger than ever. As the first step in our comeback, we are proud to present to you the 2021 FIA NACAM Rally Guanajuato. We have worked intensely to make this a memorable, innovative rally. Above all, we have strived to bring our competitors and spectators a high-quality experience, with the same high standards set by ourselves in past years. The rally will count towards both the Mexican National Rally Championship, and the NACAM Rally Championship, and as such, at 151.99 special stage kilometers it will be a much shorter Rally Guanajuato than usual. However, this does not mean a lack of action or excitement: on the contrary, we have several surprises in store. To begin with, SS San Diego, which was new for Sunday in 2020 but couldn’t be run, will be a part of the route in 2021. It contains several kilometers of brand-new, challenging roads with great natural beauty. Also new for this year is a purpose-built spectator-friendly stage called SS Dunas de León. Run inside an open-air mine, it will provide some very spectacular views for spectators and photographers, as well as a completely new and fun experience for crews. Street Stage Guanajuato will, as always, be the first stage of the rally, making for a very colorful and exciting start. As for our Rally Campus and Service Park, this year it will be installed at Parque Guanajuato Bicentenario, an impressive, extremely convenient central location close to the stages, easily accessible and with great facilities. Guanajuato’s fans have been left longing for rally action since March this year, and FIA NACAM Rally Guanajuato is meant to satisfy this urge and leave them wanting even more. Tens of thousands of fans are expected to attend the rally, and we have made preparations

It’s been a year of both triumph and, unfortunately, tragedy and in this issue we take time out to remember María de Villota, whose passing in October left a deep void not just in motor sport but in all our hearts. María’s bravery following her F1 testing accident and the dedication she displayed afterwards – not only in promoting female involvement in motor sport but also safety on the road and track – will be missed. Elsewhere, it was a year of great success for women competitors and in this edition we look at Lucile Cypriano’s victory in the VW and commission-supported shoot-out for a place in next year’s VW Scirocco R-Cup and reveal how the FIA European Rallycross Championship has become a haven for female racers. It’s been a great year for CONTACTS: women in all forms of motor sport and IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER OR we look forward to even more in 2014! STORIES FOR THE NEXT ISSUE, WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

  • Newsletter N O 3 October 2020
Dear Rally family, dear friends, Welcome to issue six of the FIA Rally Newsletter, which we are pleased to send out following last week’s online meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council on October 9, 2020. Inside are details of the new eighth and final round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship, the planned calendar for the 2021 WRC, plus an update on some of the recent regulation changes. From a Regional Rally perspective, we are happy that the FIA Middle East Rally Championship title will be awarded in 2020 following a change to the points-scoring system. We are also humbled by the efforts of the Rally of Lebanon organisers to keep moving ahead with their event in November, despite the devastating explosion in Beirut in August and the suffering and disruption that it has caused. Continuing the Regional Rally theme, we are enthused by the progress of Rally3 with the first car, a Ford Fiesta Rally3 from M-Sport Poland, coming to life during a summer of test and development. An update on the work undertaken by the Rally Safety Task Force and how it helped with the successful running of three events in Croatia, San Marino and Portugal can be found in this edition. Everyone in the Rally Department is very proud that the Sporting Regulations for FIA Rally Star have been approved with momentum really building up following the publication of a detailed set of guidelines to help ASNs around the world organise the initial talent detection events. FIA Rally Star will help to uncover and nurture future world champions by encouraging mass participation in the sport at grassroots level.

Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg.

PRESS INFORMATION HIRVONEN POWERS TO WRC CENTURY IN TURKEY KEMER, 15 June 2008 - Ford today claimed a record-breaking 100th consecutive points finish in the FIA World Rally Championship with the Focus RS World Rally Car. It became the first manufacturer since the launch of the championship in 1973 to reach a century of successive scores (see below) on the Rally of Turkey thanks to Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen claiming their second win of the FIA World Rally Championship season in a Ford Focus RS World Rally Car, and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila just 7,9 sec behind in another Focus RS as Ford extended its lead in the manufacturers' series to nine points. After dominating Friday's opening leg to hold first and second, Hirvonen and Latvala deliberately eased their pace in the final few metres to drop down the leaderboard to gain better road conditions yesterday. A lower start position meant they avoided the huge disadvantage of being first and second on roads covered by slippery loose gravel. Instead, they benefited from the cleaning process of the cars ahead, who swept stones from the surface to leave a cleaner and faster line on which to attack. Ford's Finns rocketed back to first and second yesterday morning and attacked hard to build as big a lead as possible over championship rival Sébastien Loeb, who swept the roads, in third. Hirvonen and Latvala had the unwanted 'cleaning' role today, but the buffer was big enough to hold off a determined charge from Loeb during the final 31, 03 km speed test to claim the team's second 1-2 of the season.
