Welcome to the Swiss Mountaineering School grindelwaldSPORTS. Breithorn 4’164 m The programme: Day 1: Ascent via the normal route to the Breithorn 4‘164m Meeting point is the train station in Zermatt. Together we will walk to the valley station of the Zermatt gondola and take it up to the small Matterhorn. We ride up to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at 3817m. Once on top, we are surrounded by the many 4000-meter peaks that Zermatt has to offer. We put on the harness and crampons and we are ready to go. First, we hike cross the Breithorn plateau, which takes about half an hour followed by an enjoyable climb to the Breithorn summit. We walk slowly, because we notice the height at every step. Breathing is harder, and every movement is more ex- hausting than at sea level. Finally, we reach the short summit ridge – ‘wow what a view’. Only another couple of meters and we are standing on the Breithorn summit, 4164 meters above sea, what an in- credible feeling. After our little break on the summit, it's time to hit back. We descend via the same route and return to the small Matterhorn. At the station, we strap off the crampons and harness and complement each other for the accomplishment of the tour. With the gondola, it goes back to Zermatt village.
