Travelling to/from Heidelberg, Germany By air (+ how to get to Heidelberg and back) The nearest and most practical airports are located in & Stuttgart In order to reach Heidelberg from

Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), ~80km

 by train, you can use the integrated in the airport. Connections to Heidelberg mostly take 1 hour and have one change in Mannheim. Regular tickets for fast connections (2nd class) cost 26€ excl. seat reservation. For cheaper prices you can book specific trains in advance (Sparpreis). https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml  by airport shuttle, e.g. Shuttle, which leaves directly from terminal 1 and goes to Crowne Plaza Hotel in Heidelberg about every 2 hours. Online booking costs are at 25€ (1-way) or 46€ (incl. return), rides take 1 hour. http://frankfurt-airport-shuttles.de/en/home-2/  by remote bus, you can go to parking lot P36 (near terminal 1) where remote buses leave regularly. The biggest company flixbus offers connections to Heidelberg approximately once per hour. Stuttgart Airport (STR), ~120km

 by train, you can use the suburban train station integrated in the airport to get to Stuttgart Hbf (main station). Suburban train lines S2 and S3 go there two to four times an hour and take 27 minutes. At the main station you can get fast connections to Heidelberg directly or with a change in Mannheim. It takes 1 hour, so total travel time may amount to 1.5 hours. Regular tickets (2nd class) cost 33-45€ excl. seat reservation. By train Heidelberg can be reached by train very easily from a lot of cities in Central Europe. Most connections have at least one change in Mannheim which represents a central junction in the railway network. Getting around in Heidelberg with public transport In Heidelberg you can travel by tram or bus. Main junctions are Hauptbahnhof (main station) and Bismarckplatz which is located at the beginning of the pedestrian zone in the old town of Heidelberg. In the old town itself, only busses are running for public transport.

Tickets & prices  City Tariff Heidelberg: If you are travelling in the imaginary triangle between the stops Altstadt (old town), Hauptbahnhof (main station) and Brückenstraße (bridge street)until Hirschgasse in all buses and trams, you can profit from the city tariff Heidelberg which amounts to 1.40€ per single ride. You can buy this ticket in ticket shops, ticket machines, in the buses or online.  Regular tariff greater Heidelberg area, whole comb 125: If you are travelling in the greater Heidelberg area, e.g. for the venue on Friday morning, you will need a ticket for the regular tariff in comb 125 which amounts to 2.60€ per single ride. You can also buy a 1 or 3-day ticket in this tariff which will cost 7€ for 1-day or 16.60€ for 3 days. You can buy these single ride and day tickets in ticket shops, ticket machines, in the buses or online.  Special combi ticket HeidelbergCARD: With the HeidelbergCARD you will get 1, 2 or 4 days of free public transport in the larger Heidelberg area (comb 125, see above). Additionally it includes free entrance to the castle courtyard, the barrel cellar and the German Pharmacy Museum plus the ride with the mountain railway to the castle and Molkenkur station and back. Furthermore, you may get discounts from more than 60 partners. HeidelbergCARDs cost 17€ for 1 day, 19€ for 2 days and 21€ for 4 days. You can buy it for example at the tourist informations at Hauptbahnhof (main station), Neckarmünzplatz or Rathaus/ Marktplatz (townhall/market square), in the Käthe Wohlfahrt shop at Universitätsplatz (university square) and in some hotels in Heidelberg. How to get there: If your hotel is located in Heidelberg’s old town you can easily walk in a few minutes. As an alternative you can take a bus directly to the bus stop Universitätsplatz (University Square), e.g. from (main station) with bus line 32A direction Universitätsplatz, leaving every 10 minutes during the day on weekdays, taking 18 minutes. Single rides cost 1.40€ (city tariff Heidelberg).

After the welcome reception (after approx. 21h), only bus line 33 connects University Square and Main Station East, every half an hour until 0:44.

How to get there: Bus stop Uni-Campus is very close to the venue. If your hotel is located in Heidelberg’s old town you can take bus lines 31 direction Neuenheim, Chirurgische Klinik which will continue as line 32 direction Neuenheim, Kopfklinik e.g. at Universitätsplatz (University Square) or Bismarckplatz (31 later becoming 32) or the other way round at Hauptbahnhof West (main station West)(line 32 later becoming 31). The buses leave every 10 minutes during the day on weekdays, taking approx. 26 minutes from University Square. Single rides cost 2.60€ (no city tariff Heidelberg, regular tariff greater Heidelberg area, comb 125). 10

Gala Dinner Friday May 10th – Heidelberg Address: Kornmarkt 1, 69117 Heidelberg

How to get there: If your hotel is located in Heidelberg’s old town you can easily walk in a few minutes. The restaurant is located near the Marktplatz (Market Place), about 6 minutes’ walk from University Square. You can also take a bus to the bus stop Rathaus/Bergbahn, which is 2 minutes by foot from the restaurant. You can leave from Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof Ost (main station east) with bus lines 20 and 33 every 10 minutes around the hour of the venue, taking 11 to 19 minutes. Single rides cost 1.40€.

Bus Transfer to Meeting Venue Saturday May 11th Mannheim A bus will bring all of us from Heidelberg to the meeting venue in Mannheim. You can choose two different stops to join the bus in Heidelberg. Neckarmünzplatz is close to the old bridge on the river side, near the venue of the gala dinner. Crowne Plaza Hotel is close to Bismarckplatz and about 15 minutes by foot from the main station.

Travelling from Mannheim on Saturday May 11th To Heidelberg by ECTS MA Bus Shuttle Service If you have or wish to go to Heidelberg directly after lunch, you can take one of our buses back to Heidelberg. If you stay for the social program or an individual tour in the city of Mannheim, another bus shuttle may take you back to Heidelberg at 18:00 from Kunsthalle (Art Gallery) just where you have been dropped after lunch.

To the airport Mannheim represents a central junction in the rail network. Trains (ICE) leave very regularly. You can reach the integrated train station of Frankfurt International Airport once or twice per hour within 30 minutes. Connections to Stuttgart Airport can be found at least once an hour, with one change in (main station) taking in total about 1.5 hours.

Having a nightcap in Heidelberg A lot of bars and pubs are located in Heidelberg’s old town, especially in one very famous street, Untere Straße (Lower street, see red line) and right next to it around Heilig-Geist-Kirche at the Marktplatz (Market Square).
