Peters Prattling

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year I’d like to wish all the club members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, hopefully your hints for books, models or other tools will have come to fruition and appear under the tree for you, even if you had to buy them yourself.

The Still Club Needs a New Club Secretary It’s still required, it still won’t go away, I will be standing down in February at the AGM 

By the AGM in February 2020 we will need a new set of committee members, most especially my role. The treasurer role has already been taken over by Wally for now. John Huston has thrown his hat in the ring as a potential Competition Secretary but obviously that will be up to the membership at the AGM to confirm.

The club will need at least someone or maybe a few members to step up when I leave my post of Club Secretary.

Off the top of my head the tasks to be covered include: -

• Organise the tea/coffee/biscuits and bring along all the “stuff” to the meeting – arguably the most important task • Complete and return the annual IPMS Branch Survey – this is crucial to enable the club to continue as an IPMS club and also books our space at Scale Modelworld. • Produce monthly newsletter (assuming you still want one) • Update club website (www.sticky-fingers.org.uk), again assuming you want to continue with this • Book the club attendance at other model shows which the members have expressed interest in attending • Arrange judges for the “Modeller of the Year” competition – but maybe this should be part of the Competition Secretary’s role! • Be the focal point for any queries from prospective members or other clubs requiring information

No need to be shy, please have a chat with me about what’s involved and what you could do or might be interested in.

There is 1 main requirement for the Club Secretary role, namely that you are an IPMS member, however if someone comes forwards who is not and the club is willing I’m sure the finances to purchase their membership could be arranged, so you can’t let that be a barrier or excuse.

Also, from a Club Secretary point of view don’t worry about Southern Expo this is not part of the role, Robin & I will keep the duties for this.

At the AGM anyone can put their name forward to fulfil any of the roles, even though Wally is covering one of the roles and John Huston has expressed interest in another & had a practice last month.

Southern Expo 2020 Expo update, this will be the last show at the Hornchurch Sports Centre, the new building due for completion next year will have a hall only half the size as the current one and that would make the show tricky to run, if only because we would have to not invite half the clubs/traders and who would you miss out? On top of that it would also reduce the amount we raise to give to charity to a point where the time and effort we have to put in outweighs the result.

Hopes to find another venue have floundered as neither of us, due mostly for personal reasons, have had time to search too hard. The only venues we’d identified so far have not had the right combination of location, costs & parking to name some of the important criteria.

So, for now after the 2020 show Southern Expo will be over. It could return but that will be in the lap of the gods.

London Model Engineering Show - January 17th – 19th A gentle reminder that the London Model Engineering show is on Friday 17th, Saturday 18th. & Sunday 19th January at Alexandra Palace. I’ve ordered passes for the named people below, I used previous lists and added/amended where I’ve had confirmation you would like to go. We normally also get another 6 day passes so if you aren’t on the list below but think you want to come along at the last minute never fear you can still turn up & get in.
