J.S. Bachs Chaconne Teknik, Analys och Interpretation Skriftlig reflektion inom självständigt arbete Sammanfattning J.S. Bachs Chaconne är den sista satsen från Partita nr. 2 i d-moll för Soloviolin och är med sina 257 takter längre än svitens alla andra satser tillsammans. Den är idag betraktad som ett av de mest tekniskt och musikaliskt utmanande stycken som någonsin har skrivits för violin, och innehåller samtliga för tiden kända aspekter av violinteknik. Föreliggande studie behandlar först en musikteoretisk analys av Chaconne, följt av en kartläggning av styckets underliggande koraler och avslutningsvis en undersökning av anknytningen till Bachs hustru Maria Barbara Bachs plötsliga frånfälle. Studiens resultat påvisar att det inte bara förekommer totalt elva av Bachs egna koraler inkorporerade i stycket, utan även en numerologisk och musikvetenskaplig anknytning till M.B. Bach. Dessa upptäckter åskådliggör att närmare analys berikar framförarens interpretation av Chaconne i synnerhet, och övrig musik i allmänhet. Nyckelord: J.S. Jag heter André Kaufman och föddes 1998 i Göteborg. Jag påbörjade mina musikstudier i piano vid fyra års ålder för min mamma, Eva Kaufman. 2007 började jag studera violin vid Backas kommunala musikskola för Louise Grönberg, anställd vid Göteborgsoperan. År 2009 tilldelades jag hennes kollega, Max Wulfson, som vikarie. Wulfson förblev dock min huvudlärare ända till 2017. Efter grundskoleåren i musikklass följde spetsstudier på Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet i Göteborg 2013–2016. Jag går för närvarande mitt sista år på kandidatprogrammet Klassisk Violin vid Kungl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Under 2019 tillbringade jag höstterminen på Royal College of Music i London och studerade för prof. Itzhak Rashkovsky. Hösten 2020 påbörjar jag mina studier på Masterprogrammet vid Edsbergs Slott med prof. Per Enoksson som tilltänkt lärare. Vid min examenskonsert på Kungl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm framförs bl.a. J.S. Bachs Chaconne i d-moll. 1.1 Bakgrund Denna bakgrundsdel innefattar först en introduktion till J.S. Bachs liv fram till dess att Chaconne skrevs. Därefter följer en redogörelse för Bachs samlade Sonater och Partitor för Violin ur historisk kontext. Sist undersöks chaconnen som genre mot bakgrund av passacaglian och ostinato-tekniken. 1.1.1 J.S. Bachs liv från 1650–1720 och chaconnen som genre Den tyske kompositören Johann Sebastian Bach föddes den 21 mars 1685 i Eisenach i centrala Tyskland och var det åttonde barnet i sin syskonskara. J.S. Bachs fader, Johann Ambrosius Bach (1645–1695), försörjde familjen som stadsmusikant i staden med violin som huvudinstrument. Musikertraditionen var mycket stor i Bachs familj och sträckte sig tillbaka flera generationer. J.S. Bachs släkt, i synnerhet farbröderna som alla var professionella musiker, bidrog till Bachs musikaliska uppfostran. Den äldsta kusinen, Johann Ludwig Bach, var exempelvis sedan länge en skicklig organist och kompositör. Johann Christoph Bach (1645–1693), organist i staden Arnstadt, blev först med att introducera J.S. Bach till instrumentet orgel. (Wolff et al. 1998, Lawrence 1964/2014) 1 När J.S. Bach var omkring 10 år gammal dog båda föräldrarna och den äldsta brodern, Johann Christoph Bach (1671–1731), organist i Ohrdruf några mil ifrån Eisenach, tog emot den unge J.S. Bach. J.S. undervisades troligen i grundläggande musikteori och violin av sin far före ankomsten till Ohrdruf, men enligt C.P.E. hade J.S. Bach ingen praktisk erfarenhet av klaviaturinstrument före föräldrarnas död. Under tiden i Ohrdruf studerade J.S. det tidstypiska instrumentet klavikord för sin broder och fick snart tillgång till en högtstående utbildning som var grundad på idéer av den tjeckiske pedagogen, biskopen och författaren Johan Amos Comenius (1592–1670). Skolan var en av de mest ansedda i landet vid den tiden och innefattande bl.a. undervisning i läs- och skrivkunskaper, religion, sång, historia och naturkunskap (Wolff, 2001). J.S. Bach visade sig vara särskilt begåvad, i synnerhet i latin, grekiska och teologi, och blev snabbt en av de mest framstående i åldersklassen. Lärarna på skolan var engagerade i stadens kloster och kantorn, Elias Herda (1674–1728), kom snabbt att upptäcka J.S. talang som gossopran. (Lawrence, 1964/2014). Enligt skolregistret lämnade J.S. Bach år 1700 skolan av anledningen ”ob defectum hospitorium”, kan tydas som ’platsbrist’ - detta efter 5 år i Ohrdruf. Det kan ha berott på att husen i Ohrdruf ofta var små till storleken och att broderns familj på samma gång expanderande. J.S. Bach sökte sig därför på Herdas rekommendation till Lüneburg där J.S. med hjälp av densamme fick plats i det välbärgade Michaelis-klostret, vilket var känt för att tillhandahålla plats för fattiga men musikaliskt talangfulla pojkar. J.S. Bach ovanligt vackra sopranröst blev snabbt uppmärksammad och han blev därför antagen till en handplockad skara gossopraner som utgjorde kyrkans mässkör, som ofta deltog i kör- och orkesterframträdanden. J.S. Bach fick även tillgång till det omfattande biblioteket i kyrkan som innehöll samlingar av landets bästa sakrala musik för tiden. Den allt äldre J.S. Bach förlorade med tiden sin sopranröst men kunde istället tjänstgöra som violinist i kyrkans orkester och som ackompanjatör under körrepetitionerna. (Wolff, 2001; Lawrence, 1964/2014) Efter tiden i Lüneburg anställdes J.S. Bach som hovmusiker hos Hertig Johann Ernst III i Weimar 1703, där hans roll förmodligen innefattade i huvudsak enklare, icke-musikaliska förpliktelser. Efter ytterligare en tid blev han inbjuden till att bevittna invigningen av den nya orgeln i Nya Kyrkan i Arnstadt, ungefär 3 mil sydväst om Weimar. Utmärkande för denna orgel var en ny temperering vilken tillät fler tonarter att spelas än tidigare. Orgeln väckte stor beundran hos J.S. Bach som genast accepterade erbjudandet om tjänsten som organist, men blev efter en tid missnöjd med den musikaliska nivån på kyrkans kör. Höga musikaliska krav på kollegor och utebliven närvaro från tjänsten gjorde att J.S. snart föll i onåd hos auktoriteter inom kyrkan, vilket fick honom att istället acceptera en tjänst som organist i Mühlhausen, belägen ungefär sju mil från Arnstadt. Bach åtnjöt nu högre lön, förbättrade villkor och en bättre kör. J.S. gifte sig så småningom i Mühlhausen med den första hustrun och tillika sysslingen, Maria Barbara Bach (1684–1720) (Wolff, 2001). 2 1708 återvände J.S. Bach till Weimar, nu med en tydligare roll som organist och musikdirektör i Ernst III:s hertigdöme, och denna gång med en större skara professionella musiker till sitt förfogande. J.S. fick nu det första barnet med Maria: Catharina Dorothea (1708–1774), och sedan ytterligare tre söner. Tillsammans fick J.S. Bach och Maria Barbara totalt sju barn

    The Bach Family There has never been a dynasty like it! We have Johann Sebastian Bach to thank for much of the Genealogy as well. In the region of Thuringia, the name of Bach was synonymous with music, but they were also a 'family' experiencing the ups and downs of 17th & 18th century life, from happy marriages and joyful family music-making in this devoutly Lutheran community to coping with infant mortality and dysfunctional behaviour. The Bach Family encountered the lot. In this page, we visit the lives of key members of this remarkable family, a family that was humble in its intent, served the community, were appropriately deferential to their various patrons or princes, and whose music lives on through our performances today. Joh. Seb. Bach's ancestors set the tone and musical direction, but this particular family member raised the bar higher in scale and invention. Sebastian taught his own sons too, plus many of the offspring of his relatives. His eldest sons Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel certainly held their Father in high regard, but also wanted to plough their own furrow - not easy even then. Others either held church or court positions and one travelled first to Italy and then to Georgian London in order to ply his trade - Johann Christian Bach, the youngest son. The family's ancestry goes back to the late 16th/early 17th centuries to a certain Vitus (Veit) Bach (d.1619) who left his native Hungary and came to live in Wechmar, near Gotha in Thuringia. He was a baker by trade.

Der interessierte Bürger hatte es schwer, sich ein vollständiges Bild über Arnstadts Vergangenheit zu machen. Diese jetzt erstellte Chronik verrät viel, vielleicht manchmal zu viel, vom Wesen der Stadt und ihren Menschen. Der Autor zeichnet nicht etwa ein idylli- sches und friedliches Bild von Arnstadt, sondern er beschreibt sowohl die positiven Seiten unserer Stadt, wie auch die Schwächen der Bürger, bis hin zu Verfehlungen und Verbrechen, wie sie nun mal überall auf der Welt, so leider auch in unserer Stadt, vorgekommen sind und Bestandteile der Ortsgeschichte bilden. Fernab von jeder süßlichen Verherrlichung der Stadt, und seiner Bewohner wird dem aufmerksamen Leser die Geschichte von Arnstadt erzählt, ohne jede Übertreibung, ohne Pa- thos. Beim Lesen dieser Chronik kommt man unweiger- lich ins Träumen. Was könnten jene alten, stattli- chen Bauwerke, diese schlichten Bürgerhäuser Arnstadts uns erzählen von Freud und Leid flüchti- ger Menschengeschlechter, die kamen und gingen im Laufe von Jahrhunderten. So manche Straße unserer Stadt mit alten, male- risch und poesievoll wirkenden Häusern, die in die laute, von Stürmen viel bewegte Gegenwart hineinlebten, sie reden in einfacher, doch sehr beredter Sprache zu uns und geben einen eigenen Stimmungsreiz und erweckten den Wunsch, ihre wechselreiche Geschichte kennenzulernen. Besonders ist dies am Marktplatz der Fall, wo das stattliche mittelalterliche Rathaus sich er- hebt, im Mittelpunkt, im Herzen der Stadt. Da grüßt die Bachkirche herüber und erinnert an einen der größten deutschen Tonkünstler, an Johann Sebastian Bach, der als Organist von 1703 - 1707 an dieser Kirche angestellt war.

Following the needs and interests of organists, and as a natural consequence of the obsolescence of meantone, an original tuning emerged. Keyboardists have since transitioned from supporting artists into virtuosic soloists. The irregular-sized steps of well temperament, not equal temperament, was the compromise entered upon to cement chromaticism to the Baroque. Among the heroes in this endeavor is Andreas Werckmeister, the pioneer who ushers in the concept of a closed circle of twelve major and twelve minor keys in music. Other protagonists include: Johann Gottfried Walther, Johann Philipp Kirnberger, Princess Anna Amalia van Preussen, and Johann Nicolaus Forkel. Irregularly shaped scales provide resources for a different narrative, a catalyst to perceiving a missing dimension in Johann Sebastian Bach’s music. The aim here is to return lost color to Bach’s music which has been stripped away by equal temperament hegemony. Diese jetzt erstellte Chronik verrät viel, vielleicht manchmal zu viel, vom Wesen der Stadt und ihren Menschen. Der Autor zeichnet nicht etwa ein idylli- sches und friedliches Bild von Arnstadt, sondern er beschreibt sowohl die positiven Seiten unserer Stadt, wie auch die Schwächen der Bürger, bis hin zu Verfehlungen und Verbrechen, wie sie nun mal überall auf der Welt, so leider auch in unserer Stadt, vorgekommen sind und Bestandteile der Ortsgeschichte bilden. Fernab von jeder süßlichen Verherrlichung der Stadt, und seiner Bewohner wird dem aufmerksamen Leser die Geschichte von Arnstadt erzählt, ohne jede Übertreibung, ohne Pa- thos. Beim Lesen dieser Chronik kommt man unweiger- lich ins Träumen. Was könnten jene alten, stattli- chen Bauwerke, diese schlichten Bürgerhäuser Arnstadts uns erzählen von Freud und Leid flüchti- ger Menschengeschlechter, die kamen und gingen im Laufe von Jahrhunderten. So manche Straße unserer Stadt mit alten, male- risch und poesievoll wirkenden Häusern, die in die laute, von Stürmen viel bewegte Gegenwart hineinlebten, sie reden in einfacher, doch sehr beredter Sprache zu uns und geben einen eigenen Stimmungsreiz und erweckten den Wunsch, ihre wechselreiche Geschichte kennenzulernen. Besonders ist dies am Marktplatz der Fall, wo das stattliche mittelalterliche Rathaus sich er- hebt, im Mittelpunkt, im Herzen der Stadt. Da grüßt die Bachkirche herüber und erinnert an einen der größten deutschen Tonkünstler, an Johann Sebastian Bach, der als Organist von 1703 - 1707 an dieser Kirche angestellt war.

    Bach’s St. John Passion Day Two: A life of music Eric Osborne, 2021 If you followed the 2020 Advent Calendar, you will have read on a couple occasions of the exciting lives of some of the composers of the works we looked at. We had a story of political assassination or the story of a Sulpician novice going to sea and then returning to write theatrical works by night and devotion texts during the day. Today we have a story that has its twists and turns that I think would make a good mini series on Netflix, but then maybe my tastes may not be shared by the majority. Today, I would like to examine the life of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750. Many books have been written about the life of Bach. At the conclusion of this essay, I will share a couple recommendations from my library if you wish to learn more. I am attempting to be concise and in this essay we will only examine the life of Bach up to the composition of the St. John Passion. Bach came from a family of musicians. In a family tree there were over fifty musicians in the family. Although a family from Thuringia, Germany, the Bach family were originally from Hungary. In the late sixteenth century/ early seventeenth century, his great great grandfather, Veit Bach (1550-1619) moved to Thurgian, in particular the area around Eisenach, where Bach was born. The Bach family were Lutherans. Bach was born in Eisenach on March 21, 1685 (Old Style) (March 31 New Style) to Ambrosius Bach (1645-1695) and Maria Elisabeth Lämerhirt (1644-1694), the eighth and youngest child.

He has studied with David Briggs, Roger Fisher, Dr C Francis Jackson and John Scott Whiteley, amongst others, and has participated in masterclasses with M Johannes Geffert and Dame Gillian Weir. A Fellow of the Royal College of Organists since 2006, he has given Y numerous recitals at venues throughout the UK. He has also performed, as both a soloist and accompanist, in France, Germany, Holland and Spain. His first solo CM recording, Colours of the Klais (Cloister Records) marked the 10th anniversary in 2007 of the Klais organ in Bath MY Abbey. He has an occasional duo partnership with violinist Lucy Phillips; they have given concerts together CY in Bath, Chester, Warwick and Worksop, and recorded a CD. CMY 119,5 mm (+/- 0.5mm) Since 2011, Mark has been Assistant Director at the Collegiate Church K of St Mary, Warwick, having previously held positions at Kendal Parish Church, Bath Abbey and Royal High School, and Clifton College, Bristol. At Warwick, he accompanies the St Mary's Choirs of Boys, Girls and Men in four choral services every week whilst assisting with their training and direction. He has appeared with them in concert, including the premières of choral works by Naji Hakim and David Briggs, on tours throughout the UK and abroad, on radio and television broadcasts, and BACH on two recent CD recordings to date: Christmas from Warwick and Gaudeamus omnes: celebrating Warwick 1100 (Regent Records).
