SE HAM PÅ PIKNIK I PARKEN I JUNI‏ Ryley Walker har gleden av å annonsere slippet av sitt nye album "Golden Sings That Have Been Sung", ute 19. august via Dead Oceans / Playground Music. HØR FØRSTE SINGEL "THE HALFWIT IN ME" HER "Golden Sings That Have Been Sung" er oppfølgeren til hans triumferende andrealbum "Primrose Green" fra 2015. Albumet markerte et gjennombrudd for Ryley Walker og høstet lovord fra blant andre NPR, Village Voice, Uncut og Mojo, samt noen av hans egne idoler. Robert Plant er en selverklært fan, det samme er kontrabasslegenden Danny Thompson, som Ryley har turnert med i England. Etter forrige albumslipp og en turné med over 200 konserter, bestemte Ryley seg for å vende hjem til Chicago. Men å ta seg fri lå ikke i planene hans. Istedet tilbragte han vinterferien i studio for å spille inn "Golden Sings That Have Been Sung". Låtene er i stor grad påvirket av Ryleys retur til Chicago, og noen av hans formative musikalske minner er knyttet til musikken til Chicago-pioneerer som Gastr del Sol og Tortoise. For første gang i sin karriere fant Ryley ut at det kunne være hjelpsomt å ha med en produsent på laget, og han hadde kun en person på ønskelisten. Ryley hadde vært mangeårig fan av multiinstrumentalisten LeRoy Bach ( Wilco). Bach pleide å arrangere improkvelder i Chicago rundt 2009, som Dan Bitney, trommis i Tortoise, også deltok på i blant. "For me, it was an incredible opportunity", forteller Ryley. "I’d get to play with these people. I mean, they were twice my age. I’m sure they thought I was annoying at first, maybe some of them still do, but I kind of looked at them like gurus – and to have these old school Chicago heads taking me in was just amazing." Så når sjansen bød seg for at Bach kunne produsere hans nyeste album, var ikke Ryley sen om å gripe den. Annenhver dag dro Ryley hjem til LeRoy Bach med et nytt riff, og smått om sen tok albumet form. The Squirrel Bait and Rodan genealogies continued to dominate Kentucky's and Chicago's post-rock scene during the 1990s. Half of Rodan, i.e. Tara Jane O'Neil (now on vocals and guitar) and Kevin Coultas, formed Sonora Pine with keyboardist and guitarist Sean Meadows, violinist Samara Lubelski and pianist Rachel Grimes. Their debut album, Sonora Pine (1996), basically applied Rodan's aesthetics to the format of the folk lullaby. Another member of Rodan, guitarist Jeff Mueller, formed June Of 44 (11), a sort of supergroup comprising Sonora Pine's guitarist Sean Meadows, Codeine's drummer and keyboardist Doug Scharin, and bassist and trumpet player Fred Erskine. Engine Takes To The Water (1995) signaled the evolution of "slo-core" towards a coldly neurotic form, which achieved a hypnotic and catatonic tone, besides a classic austerity, on the mini-album Tropics And Meridians (1996). Sustained by abrasive and inconclusive guitar doodling, mutant rhythm and off-key counterpoint of violin and trumpet, Four Great Points (1998) metabolized dub, raga, jazz, pop in a theater of calculated gestures.

The two-disc limited edition set, titled U2: The Best Of 1980-1990, will include one CD containing 13 hits from those years, plus a new re-recording of Joshua Tree outtake "Sweetest Thing," and asecond CD of 15 B-sides and rarities. On November 10, Island will release the hits CD separately. Both releases will be preceded by the release of "Sweetest Thing" to radio on September 29. The band's albums released during those years, all on Island, are 1980's Boy, 1981's October, 1983's War and the live album Under A Blood Red Sky, 1984's The Unforgettable Fire, the 1985 live EP Wide Awake In America, 1987's The Joshua Tree and 1988's Rattle And Hum.
